To Missy... Party-pooper! ;-P There are plenty of cases where dogs (and sometimes cats) were obviously protecting their owners or kids. Instinctual loyalty to and protection of family/pack is a thing too, ya know. So is predatory chasing behavior. Hard to say exactly what's happening here, but no matter how you slice it, he was a brave little dog! Actually it varies by breed and by individual dog, and in most cases is likely a combination of motives.

We called him sometimes, Sherlock for his ears work like "detective 🕵🏽" & he's such a police in border control too. We feel afraid, sometimes, that he'd b beaten by bigger 🐶 since he's very protective. #dogLover Xx 🐕

It's very poor etiquette. And sweetie... HFP isn't law enforcement, or an official agency like animal control. They're very careful to work within the parameters of the law, in every way. It's not their job to confiscate animals, they're rescuers. Stop YELLING. Screaming won't make you right, it just makes you loud and irritating, and doesn't provide scientific backup for your subjective opinion. Sheesh... the naïveté of some people never ceases to astonish me.

I’m a sobbing mess. This reminds me of when I charged a coyote with all the energy I posses in my body because he had my princess in his mouth (my cat, Bunny). He dropped her and ran for his life because he knew if he let me reach him, I would’ve fought to the death for my baby. I had to rush her to the emergency vet at 2am and they wouldn’t even touch her unless I forked up $800 on the spot. I had to apply for Care Credit over the phone to pay for it. She has puncture wounds in her neck and body and her shoulder was crushed like glass. I had to isolate her in my closet for 2 months so she could heal. Every day I’d be lying on the floor in my closet administering her meds, feeding her and cleaning her. I’m happy to report that 8 years later she’s a fully healed, fat fluff ball that runs to cuddle with me every time I sit or lay down. She’s my absolute princess and I’d be less of a person without her.

Yes, the coyote population in America is getting out of hand, they are in cities, they are many places they weren't in before. One attacked a Pitt Bull here in my small town. The owner had 2 large Pitt Bulls on leashes (I am from the foothills of the Appalachian mountains.) The coyote followed them about a block. The man walking his dogs thought that it was a stray German Shepherd following them. He said out of nowhere this dog attacked and grabbed his dog. His dog's leash snapped and his Pitt Bull had taken off. He put up flyers etc and recovered his dog and made a post about the stray skinny German Shepherd that was aggressive. I said Don are you sure it was a German Shepherd? Could it have been a coyote?? Turns out it was a coyote.

But Thats a pitt bull. This is little dog, size about my dog and my dog never was able to break my leash... Unless.. Coyotee attacked and yanked the little dog from the owner. That means he didnt run away, he got snatched away.. Something ain't complimentary here.

I don’t care about her age - my 82 year old grandma wouldn’t let a small dog like that get hurt so much - poor thing didn’t need to get injured so many times if she had protected him better sturdier leash to start that wouldn’t snap away so easily and by using that walking stick to protect herself and the dog. Awesome organization, precise rescue skills, kindness and love shown to rescues. Five stars to you! Cannot buy Marilyn's story. Just too many fantastic improbabilities. Simplest explanation is that they forgot to close the door or lock the gate. Fasby explores or "escapes" depending on how he's treated at home. Gets attacked and hurt by some animal. He escapes but runs out into the streets or the forest. He is found by strangers, owner is traced. Now, they have to come up with a story to keep Fasby.

Others have reported their larger dogs were lured to chase one lone coyote, who led it to a waiting pack. They are smart, and around here, they are appearing in neighborhoods which are not at all rural. We have even seen bobcats in this area. We have a lot of densely wooded areas even close to the center of town and we are encroaching on their territories. We must be vigilant because they are fighting for survival. We are even experiencing problems with raptors and hawks grabbing small dogs and cats which are 10 lbs. or less. Our population is close to 82,000, and we are experiencing a real problem this mating season.
