Good to see a local (to you) British engineering company producing a quality product. Interesting review of the Defender, Land Rover have really lost their way, but then they are not interested in farmers anymore. Cant imagine what it would look like with a bale of straw, a couple of sheep or a bag of sand in the back!. The spare wheel should be on the bonnet like a real Landrover and the 'wing' mirrors should be on the wings. Be interesting to see your take on the Grenadier. I'll stick to my series 2a.

Nice to see that Landrover have introduced a self steering function that allows you to drive hands free a lot of the time. 🤣

Thanks again for the video Andrew. Re the Defender: like so many vehicles today, too many 'expensive' things to go wrong. I thought farmers liked simple and foolproof.

I remember in the early 80s me and my sister got a lift from the BT man in a new landy then, I reported back to father how amazing it was, and it even had a soft lining in the roof 😅. We had the series 2 with a black and silver plate, mum would complain about banging her elbows on the door with massive steering wheel.😅 Thanks Andrew

Ineos grenadier may be worth a test drive…

A little bit more involved then my first sprayer 60 gallon ransom wich used to run on our 1965 DB 880 discovery/defender not the vehicle to load 50 nets of sprouts in no more defiantly a Gentleman farmers vehicle nice sprayer Two things in life you rarely see dead donkeys and poor farmers lol You all have a nice day now

I love my Defender and my personal view is the door mirrors are perfect for rear vision I've driven lots of vehicles with useless ones, not these. I wouldn't have a vehicle with a sunroof, don't see the point of them. And as for the wind noise the vehicle is basically brick shaped so what do you expect. The disco and Range Rover are for the road drivers. And to counter the lag as you call it try using the sports mode by moving the gear leaver over you will get it wheel spinning. But as ever each to their own point of view. I'd never go back to an old one now.

It’s not good if you have to use in sport mode all the time just to stop the lag, using more fuel in the process. I know many people who have RR and Disco’s and they go off road all the time as I do without a problem.

You need to adjust those door mirrors. There is no need to see the side of the car. You know what that looks like. They should be adjusted so that the side of the car is just a fraction out of your vision to give the absolute maximum view behind with minimal to no so-called blind spot.

the D250 that I tried had no such lag issues and the power was more than adequate.

@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard Really? I’ve driven many V6 3.0 and the new Ingenium D250 Defender for a couple of days and all I can repeat is that I did not find it so. It may well be so, but the way I drove it [varied] the issue did not show up. I know how such an issue manifests, as I have a 2.2 auto Ford Ranger which has an embarrassing amount o lag from idle speed [to lower emissions of soot apparently]. I found the D250 to be as good as, but lower in power, than the BMW X7 that I’ve driven for the last three days over hundreds of miles.

Better to have discovery again ,think they are better value for money ,to my mind it's a better ride as well ,your review is the exactly the same as I thought

Good morning Andrew. Most farmers seem to use Toyota Hilux here in Cornwall. From what I understand much lower running costs and a 10 year guarantee if serviced at Toyota dealers. Also a very late comment on Sugar Beet drill. This seems to be a brilliant piece of kit. Seed placement and ease of adjustment plus all at a high forward speed.

Interesting re Toyota. I’m half wondering about a swb Landcruiser commercial but I think I’d miss my disco,

Had one - went back under warranty and got a replacement; still riddled with issues so sold it back to LR. Not a patch on the Disco4; all nasty plastic, electronics a disaster, rear door a pig to keep open on a slope. Knew it was going to be a fashion statement not a proper workhorse when I saw the designer wearing a skinny blue suit and talking bs about “design cues”. So LR now has posh RR, sporty RR, family RR and sort of rugged RR. Looking forward to seeing a Grenadier.

Interesting video again, we have 71 plate short wheelbase defender at work, I agree with the spare wheel and the mirrors, I'm not a lover of it. Very interesting to see your sprayer and what goes on at Houseman,( a Bateman man myself) , we have a nagging Easterly wind here, to strong to go spraying or fertiliser spreading, very frustrating. I think that’s what they are sending the screen and receiver to Denmark so Househams software suppliers can check it all and make sure it works before fitting in the sprayer.

You can get a pallet in the back of the Disco but you cant in the defender,The different models seem to be all doing a similar job,its too good for a livestock farmer

When you pulled over the second time were those 2 chaps approaching you,,?????

Great review! Crazy that the Defender prices can be in excess of £100k, a lot of plastic and nowhere near as good as the Discovery. Seems that they are aimed at footballers rather than farmers these days. Also heard on the radio today that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will be looking to only make electric vehicles from 2025 and will phase out the Landrover name. So the vehicles will be known as RangeRover, Discovery and Defender. Such a shame as it’s a British icon but will likely drive up the price on the older Landrover defenders.

The new Defender is the best Discovery they have Built it isnt a Defender but a Pretender the Ineos Grenadier is the New Defender Rubber band tyres are useless in the real world it is the Ultimate Chelsea Tractor a very capable SUV.

I just got sent a link to an article on spray residues in urine samples.30% of people tested had either roundup or reglone in urine I suspect very low levels. However trying to establish a causal link to autism. I am about to spray out a field of cocksfoot and can see a time coming when these chemicals will be heavily regulated.

Reglone has been banned in this country for a few years now, so if that's true it's come from imported food

Thanks for the update Andrew. Think Land Rover had to go upmarket with the updated Defender but I don't think you'll see many in Skipton Auction Mart anytime soon. The sprayer looks to be making progress be nice to see it working on the farm. Thanks again.

Do not buy one, I have one with a driveline vibration bad enough to make you hate driving the car. Had it back for warranty 3 times and Land Rover say it's operating within design limits. Yet they do say there is a vibration. I am an independant Land Rover tech with 35+ years of experience and this is not what a vehicle should do and for them to tell me that is insulting
