Farewell Robbie Robertson... A Literalist Reaction to The Band - "Chest Fever"

Welcome! Please SUBSCRIBE to our channel and LIKE our videos! We READ EVERY SINGLE COMMENT! Your comments help us make choices for future reactions.
Dave (the 36-year-old with the impressive beard) was raised almost completely sheltered from pop culture by his strict military family. He was homeschooled his entire life until he entered college. He legitimately has very little knowledge of music and bands from before 2000.
John (the guy in the dark on the right) has been a MUSIC LOVER since he was born in the 1960's. Problem is, he rarely knows or fully grasps the lyrics. Dave (on the left), on the other hand, has never heard or rarely overheard the music John chooses to play for him, but tends to take lyrics literally, sometimes to unexpected ends.
John remains in the dark both as a wry play on the situation but also because of legal issues causing his attorney to recommend maintaining a low profile.

This is a real, honest reaction to a song Dave have never consciously heard before and/or listened to with intent. Any "facts" offered by John "Doh" are based more on his remembrances than on any actual research. Please feel free to correct him. He loves it.

This is an example of The Band creating an iconic bar of music from 4 musical notes. I love the fugue style of the organ in this song. I am familiar with the song but I never could have named it. Nice choice. RIP Robbie Robertson.

Mickey Jones stepped in when Levon Helm left the original group (The Hawks) because he wasn't into the Bob Dylan tour. He came back a while later and replaced Jones before the first album.

RIP everyone from the Band except Garth and Ronnie Hawkins who ensured Robbie got more of you know what than Frank Sinatra.

As I will have to state and restate for the next 2 months... our solution to our ongoing audio issues is for me to record audio locally and dub it into Dave's video recording. At our next recording session I will be listening to Dave in my earbuds and the echo will be no more. But, the next bunch of reactions will include ample 60's-style reverb. - JD

The way Robbie explained the naming: When they were still playing with Bob Dylan and were backstage or at a party or whatever, people would obviously gravitate towards Dylan and the band would kind of be off to the side by themselves. Somebody would ask who they were and the response would be something along the lines of “oh, that’s just the band.” So that’s where it came from. Instead of it being a kind of pretentious we’re *THE* Band thing, it’s more of a tongue in cheek nod to being the “other guys” just hanging around.

You may be onto something, with the heroin reference, 3 members of The Band were addicts.

Levon Helm replaced Mickey Jones? Um, NO. Mickey Jones played the European part of one tour with Dylan. Levon was literally the original member. They were called Levon and The Hawks.

Hey Guys, Turn off your speakers when you record. The echo is annoying.

It was already natural for the Band to call and name themselves " The Band" because it was already Bod Dylan and the Band.

When they split from Dylan they had to come up with a name. They mulled over several. they were living in Woodstock, and whenever they were out on the town as a group or individually, people would say, he is with the Band, they are The Band. As they were talking about names Rick Danko said "everyone calls us The Band, that is what we are, I don't even want to contemplate another name, that is silly".
