I am disappointed about Fareed having not done enough investigation. The tourism to Taiwan from Mainland China was halted in 2019 due to the heightened conflict between Taiwan and mainland governments. Even Taiwanese think they got lucky on this one... The better examples should be countries like Singapore, South Korea and so on.

The guest speaker was NOT true about the China Taiwan and idealized the Taiwan. Heard about the Xiao-Ming story? Do you know so many Taiwanese businessmen and tourists wanted to leave the China Mainland and back to the Taiwan BUT COULD NOT?

What a great and nuanced conversation (for the most part) off I think on a few points, but that's better than the substance deprived force-feeding of opinion that is typical in mainstream media.

Sorry Reid, an Internet broadcast is still a broadcast like any other. They don't get any more "virtual" just because there's an epidemic going around.

Thanks for sharing and the insights. I just would like to add a piece of facts regarding Taiwan. In general, Taiwan has been doing well in fighting against COVID-19. China suspended all the visa applications for mainland Chinese residents to visit Taiwan since August 1 of 2019. So there is almost no visitors from mainland China to Taiwan since the outbreak of COVID-19.

Guys - Taiwan has the same numbers as Somalia without full testing. With full testing their number probably is closer to Australia. Do your homework.

Food for thought: Nationalism is the rallying cry in China to adhere to COVID regulations. Nationalism is also the rallying cry in America to object to COVID regulations. There is intelligent nationalism, and then there is not. Just as a sidenote: Singapore 40 years ago was already one of the most corruption-free countries in the world. Lee Kuan Yew was a deeply Confucian man who built a economic and capitalist powerhouse based on Confucian ethics, specifically on the idea of making every man a 君子 (gentleman of honor). Wouldn't have a clue about S.Korea or Taiwan though.
