FAQ: Shaolin Interview with Master Shi Heng Yi (释恒義)

A short interview with frequently asked questions about Shaolin Kung Fu, his philosophy and art. Shi Heng Yi (释恒義) is the headmaster from the Shaolin Temple Europe (歐洲少林寺) located in Otterberg (Kaiserslautern) / Germany.
Every year there are several retreats that are taking place in the Shaolin Temple Europe 歐洲少林寺, the monastery where I am living.
A retreat can either be a 3-day Retreat (Friday - Sunday) or a 6-day Retreat (Monday - Saturday). Every retreat is held under a specific topic, such as: Gong Fu, Qi Gong (e.g. Ba Duan Jin, Yi Jin Jing, 13 Luohan), Meditation retreats and Rou Quan retreats.
If you are interested in joining any of these retreats, please take a look at all dates that are published on the website of the monastery:

@@easybreezy8904 And by "teaching everything about that" it really means teaching nothing about it. Any truly wise person will not go out preaching nor will they ever claim to have anything to teach you. Jiddu was constantly, from childhood even, pestered by those around him to be a "spiritual teacher", so he simply met with those people and basically told them to stop seeking others to tell them what to think and do regarding the profundity of their own lives and existence, because nobody can teach you that stuff and anybody who claims to is a con artist. He went from disbanding the theosophical society which tried to make him into their great teacher to going all over the world, meeting with groups who wanted to ask him questions and trying to kindly and carefully explain to them why they should not do this with anyone, nor accept any "spiritual authority" whatsoever. People like Krishnamurti only tried to point out to people who were already seeking something from various so-called spiritual practices, religions, philosophies and so on that nobody can teach them anything about themselves, that one has to stand completely alone and reject every so-called guru, teacher or religious authority and look at ones own actual behaviour, thoughts, reactions, life and relationships with others and with the world around us. That there is a huge difference between learning something practical such as mathematics or languages or geography or sciences etc and trying to learn "spirituality" or spiritual practices or how to be religious and so on. Also, that part of the reason everyone seeks authority is a combination of a long history of social conditioning of the human mind to rely on authorities as well as the fact that genuinely going into oneself for real is actually quite a disturbing process and people do not actually want to face themselves as they actually are - they want nice, romantic ideas about themselves and their lives, about romantic life after death beliefs like going to heaven or coming back even richer or better in some way or other. Instead, the reality is that every human being has to face themselves for what they really are, the plain facts, and face the reality of what we are all doing to this world and to others.. and we could just as easily be any one of those others from the violent, drug-addicted homeless guy on the street or the corrupt politician to one of the billions of poverty-stricken people in the world from India or China or Bolivia to a housing estate in London. Who you are in terms of body, mind, nationality or religion etc is meaningless and not important at all. What matters is what you do and how you approach life and others. Most so-called spiritual people, however, are just trying to find beliefs they can cling to which delude them into thinking they are special, that they can get lots of money and so on if they just think about everything they selfishly desire etc etc.

@@AD-kv9kj I believe that if you practice spiritual practices you can become more spiritual. But I'm too stupid to invent them by myself so I am looking what other people do. The simple truth, it doesn't have to be correct in broader sense, it just have to be a thing I want to persue. It's okay even if I dont learn anything in the end, the goal is not there. I was just mesmerized by this persons level of control over himself. I think there might be some practices to better that ability

I started to notice is "Shaolin" martial arts is about a little over a month ago. I am very surprised Sifu Shi Heng Yi not only masters in this Invincible Shaolin Kong Fu but also well versed in German and English. He certainly fully utilizes his time during his immersion(osmosis) in his monk years. Being a "Monk" gives you time to be able to "fully devoted" in practice and meditation, allowing you to avoid all the distractions from the secular world. This is true for all the professionals in any field. You need to be able to fully devoted in order to be on the top in this field. Sometimes I think being a monk/nun is really fortunate/blissful. They can bypass all the unnecessary sadness, greed and evils in this world and straight to the final destination of our life - peace, well-being, being united with your inner self and nature/universe. Further, in Today's chaotic world, Sifu can step into the secular world (instead of hiding in the deep mountains), teaching people Shaolin but live in secluded private.life. It's the best of the best living but it's hard to balance between this two. Wish him the Best

I was surprised to find there is a Shaolin temple in Europe (Germany). And the chief instructor is such a well spoken (very good English with a very slight German accent :) and wise communicator. Shaolin monks tread that fine line between Taoism and Buddhism, between action and non-action, but deep down following the old taoist alchemical process of becoming nature. It's another form of yoga and Qigong is my favourite form of yoga :) Greetings from Australia

So wise for one so young. I hope the Shaolin are able to expand their temples throughout the world. We might have more of a chance for peace on earth then. Shaolin Buddhism's practice is too strenuous for most, but Tai Chi and some of the softer forms most people can practice. This monk makes more sense than most of the priests I have listened too. Very graceful in movement, as are all of the Shaolin.

Ours is not an age that wants hero; Ours is an age of envy. When some men fail to accomplish what he really want to do in life, He angrily exclaims: May das whole world perish! This repulsive emotion is de pinnacle of envy. If I cannot have it, Then no one can have it, No one is to do anything Or be any thing.
