i really liked the voice overs! EDIT: i didnt know you made a game. even better!
It takes a great person to speak out into the world and let their voice be heard, but it take a 1 in a million to show a softer side of oneself. When getting burned by fire many people can close up and always put up walls, it takes an amazing person to grin and bear it. Thanks for your story about anxiety Astro, I don't suffer from it myself but I have many friends who do, and I can't thank you enough for making their day with this video, Thank you, genuinely.

That's so kind, thank *you*! We all deal with this stuff differently as we grow into better people day-by-day. Anxieties from internet strangers can be very hard to get over; but if this nerd can, anyone can. ^^
2:35 - Re: The Heretic; You say that the log for the Heretic implies she was stored about the Contact Light exactly as Acrid was, but I don't think that's true: _"A _*_blue flash_*_ appeared in one of the storage bays of the Contact Light. The chaos ensuing on the ship was a perfect distraction._ _As soon as Kur-skan stepped out the _*_portal_*_ she ducked into a sprint."_ I think that the log suggests that the Heretic arrived aboard the Contact Light in a portal, one which was blue in colour. The only blue portals we see in the game are the Bazaar Portals and the Celestial Portals, both of which can be tied to Mithrix in some way. The Celestial Portal is Mithrix's reward for service fulfilled, whereas the Bazaar is full of Lunar Items - including the Beads of Fealty - as well as the cauldrons that are otherwise only found on the Moon (I think). Also, the Bazaar has a way of manipulating where it's portal exits (which you can use to choose the next stage), and it's own log mentions "a sudden flash of white, *blue,* and green" as the newts enter and exit the slipstream, as well as a "blue glow" that the Newt doesn't notice. I think that the Heretic was an Alloy Vulture that accepted the Beads of Fealty and served Mithrix, at least for a time. Either under Mithrix's orders, or perhaps in an attempt to flee both brothers, she used a portal (Probably from the Bazaar) to invade the Contact Light in an attempt to take control of it. Needless to say, Providence put a quick stop to whatever plans she had, and made sure that no one could get any use out of the ship, for good measure. This was a great video though, as was the original lore video. Your presentation skills are top-notch. *edit for some formatting
I like thinking "she" is the moon, even if it doesn't have much lore footing. It's like giving an inanimate object a gender, plus they dont have our preconceived outlooks on things so it seems cool.
@endorneyodera4366

I always thought Nkuhana was the "she" as iirc, Nkuhana is a woman Not to mention that you can find Nkuhana's opinion on a dead body in Wetland Aspect, sure it may be a cult thing, but idk
@bugjams
Жыл бұрын
Cool idea, but then the line, "She should've died for me, her gifts were wasted on you" makes no sense. It's a moon. It didn't even have anything living on it before where you could make the argument that "it" (its ecosystem) died. Nor is there any evidence hinting at the moon's ability to give space beings magical creation powers.
The voices were the coolest part!
oh my god youre fuckin adorable. All of that talk at the end really close to home as someone whos trying to be a game developer/artist myself and bogged down by the lack of feedback or even the negative feedback your brain will always perceive to be there even though its not. People really are mindlessly wandering around the internet and as happy as those words can make you they are really just words that you shouldnt let change you, yknow unless theyre constructive and not 5 twitch emojis stuck together

Much of my game development degree was googling things lmao. When we get this discord set up, chat with me. I'd love to talk shop and see what you're working on.
Hey i really liked the voices!
That wasn't just some FAQ video about a game's lore, that is serious life advice. Thank you for that!
I don't think Heretic's lore says she was on the Contact Light from the beginning. It's (almost) explicit that she uses a blue - lunar - portal to get on board. Perhaps Mithrix thinks she is vermin because she failed? Or maybe her last act was an attempt at betrayal. Either way, she probably wasn't cargo of the Contact Light, unlike Acrid.
@screamingcactus1753
2 жыл бұрын
I definitely read it as a last minute attempt at betrayal. She was trying to get the ship back into orbit so it could escape, while Mithrix wanted it to crash so he could lead the survivors to kill his brother. Providence didn't know any of this, and only saw a creature twisted by his brother's influence who needed to be killed.
@wolfdemonkid
2 жыл бұрын
@@screamingcactus1753 she could have been trying to bring the ship to mythrix to free him, then he wouldn't need the survivors to kill Providence. I think thats why Providence crashed it in the first place. I believe she's a heretic to Providence not to Mythrix, because she used to be an alloy bird, a race saved by Providence. Also, Mythrix believes all the creatures on Petrichor V to be vermin whether they are loyal to him or not.
Sheeeeeshhhh~ Expected to have more lore to quench my thirst for my game lore withdrawal, but, instead, get hit by Astor's lore instead!! Didn't expect to get such an amazing day today!~ Thank you for giving us some lore (and a bit of yours as well), hope to see more of my favorite games be LOREDED by you!! XD
I feel like the "She" Mithrix is referring to is their biological mother, like sure both Mithrix and Provi are absurdly powerful biologically speaking but they aren't gods, they're essentially space sorcerers, and so it'll fit if she was their mother, since Mithrix is a good boy and wouldn't talk bad about her. It kinda fits too if you think about where these two came from, like really how did they appear? they gotta have some point of origin, so thinking about them as a rare intelligent species works pretty well.
@degenerateastronaut

Having “Her” be their mother is such a lovely idea. It would also explain why there was no one around to *open up a fresh can of whoop-ass* when they started misbehaving.
@romulusnuma116

Maybe she died in child birth of Provi I get that idea when Mithrix says her sacrifice was wasted on you
Hey DA! Amazing video as always! 💙 I really hope you see this... Because I think I've cracked Heretic! The Alloy Vultures started it all. The Contact Light. *EVERYTHING.* (I know... Sounds odd but trust me!) First, she's a vulture! That part's pretty clear actually... her wings were stripped to blades as punishment. She cannot fly. (This is part of the Hooks of Heresy log, which also mention she loved to *tinker* as all vultures do) Vultures are written to be HIGHLY intelligent (We know from their log, and from heretic's log, and even Solus Control Units being overtaken by Vultures.), and they stick around Siren's call. A ship graveyard, they're very familiar with all that technology. They decorated the Alloy worship unit after all! But why is it called Siren's call? Well.. It's a false distress beacon! Sirens in mythology call sailors to their doom. JUST as many ships were called to the location and crashed there. it's a trap set up by vultures! Why? We know Providence keeps creatures on Petrichor against their will for 'their own good'... But Vultures, as intelligent as they are likely think otherwise and are collecting ship parts to perhaps... one day escape on their own? This is a HORRIBLE offense in the eyes of Providence. Nobody leaves. This, is *heresy*. The Heretic is also hated by Mithrix just as much as she is by Providence... The unique Dialogue Mithrix has in the final fight confirms this. Not sure why Mithrix is offended by something that goes against his brother... Maybe just the act of defying higher beings upsets him, they should know their place. It seems in The Heretic's log she beamed on board with a blue portal... and she needed the contact light, she needed a ship to get off world... Maybe her entire species... She started it ALL. She brought the contact light to petrichor with a false distress beacon in an attempt to escape! Providence intervened to stop her and destroying the Contact Light not just for stealing one of his teleporters but because it was a trace of The heretics offense. The survivors brought down providence's ecosystem... And destroyed his brother next. We really are the bad guys huh?

How can people not like your voices! You are the nicest voice ever! and your modulations are fantastic 😍
The voices were great and made it really easy to tell who was who at a glance (or the sound equivalent of it), people who got mad about it need to shut their traps. Also, thanks for the little anecdote about creation and the process of blocking out the cruelty that comes from people who view your work. It was inspiring, as someone who has struggled with the dick moves that people pull on the internet. Cheers!
Thank you for the amazing content and being so positive! That ending hit different because I really want to get into music and art (3d, clay, figure art) but I've been scared of being told that I suck or the stuff that I make is cringe or weird. I also have the same problem of deleting stuff that I think is bad or weird whether that be comments, messages or art. I'm trying to break out of that habit and trying to be more confident in myself and this community has helped me a lot with being more "out there". Also, thank you to the community for being so kind and open!! Also, it's crazy how the internet can make you feel like 100 people liking your stuff = like 3 people IT'S A LOT OF PEOPLE. Shoot, I really like your takes on motivation and dealing with negative "criticism." I found your channel after your Acrid video, and from that point I decided that I would be watching your career with great interest. It's not often that you come across someone who is funny, clever, and technically skilled, but can still be thoughtful and genuine without it coming across as cheesy. It comes across as inspiring rather than asking for cheap sympathy and encouragement. Plus, unlike everyone else, you think that Artificer is good and recommend the default bomb thing and alternate special, which I appreciate.

So thank you for the work you put into it.
Thank you for spending the time to answer questions and respond to hate with tact and grace instead of more hate

What to say I see forward to watching your lore video's in the future And maybe playing your games, you seem like a good guy
Great video man, keep it up. I would love to watch you grow
I had assumed that the Heretic was attempting to use the bridge's shuttle function (the one that the survivors from the first game used to escape) to escape Petrichor V and to escape Mithrix, and that Providence not only struck her down because she was a believer of Mithrix, but that if information about him where to leak to the outside universe then more would arrive, increasing the possibility of Mithrix escaping and him gaining more followers, as well as the danger it would present to his "Zoo" (we all have seen just what a single survivor can do to the inhabitant of the planet, imagine if armies started appearing). Basically: Providence is not only killing a follower/user of mithrix's power, but also stopping information from leaking.
This video was amazing, the lore was pretty great, but honestly, the advice on motivation and how to really get into everything was really encouraging. I've been struggling to complete a game myself for way too long, and hopefully, employing some of your tactics, I could get through it for once. Thanks for the wodnerful video!

Very nice FAQ, especially the last question is quite inspiring. I hope my previous comment was read not as a matter of disliking the voices: I think they were really cool and helped with the flow of the video not being too monotone. My criticism was of accessibility, for subtitles would have really helped me to understand what was said (be them in the video or in the youtube system).

You’re exactly right! No worries. By the time I got around to the “bonus” lore at the end, I was so tired after like six hours of editing and just wanted to get the thing done. In hindsight, enough people mentioned the accessibility to me that I should have just spend the extra hour and half for that section too. Thanks for your thoughts!

I really enjoyed your video on the Lore of RoR2. I've looked into it myself many times but couldn't quite get the grasp on who was talking/what it was actually about. I will admit, I was unsure about the voices in the beginning but I got used to it and made it very clear on who the perspective was from. Your view on criticism and as well as motivation/discipline are also very interesting. I have heard them before but being able to give an example of how a single seemingly insignificant comment in the grand scheme of things can entirely shake things up. Keep it up man! P.S. Wow, call me out why don't ya?! Kidding of course I always forget fragments that tend to throw off the whole, gives you an excuse to drag out your content which is a plus as far as I'm concerned. Technically Void Reavers turn up at Delta Outpost even prior to looping, granted that's also where you'll usually run into Imps and their Overlords which I guess plays into your greater gates theory. (edit: For clarity sake I mean they can spawn pre-loop at Delta Outpost, they are uncommon however, they become more common once on the loop naturally because of how much more points the director has to throw around all willy nilly) The addition of the personal QNA stuff is nice too so bonus points there, naturally. (edit: Who needs thick skin when you can spite those doubters by striving to be better and show off how proud you are of your work, those seeds of doubt you should never shrug off fully however having them let's you know you're not an egomaniac, normality is being flawed)

LET'S GOOOOOO I'd play it more but it really needs Rollback for me to keep playing it since I've been spoiled. Are you familiar with/excited for Melty Blood Type Lumina? Edit: Also the link to the Machinima has a timestamp imbedded into it, so people who click on it don't actually start at the beginning, so you might want to fix that.

I timestamped it on purpose, no worries! I play UNI a little bit, just with the roommates. Chaos and Seth are my favorites. Good edgy boys. Very excited for Melty Blood 😁
People disliked the voices? I loved them!
I loved the voices. Please moar :>
Hey man, I appreciate this vid and the one before it. I have a problem with the way the S sounds you make sounding sharp. Maybe throw that in EQ and tone down the high ends a bit. GL

Good idea! I need more practice with that for sure.
Wow. Having not played Risk of Rain, and hearing the voices in the first one, I thought: That human character 's voice seems awfully similar to the narrator here, is he a VA for Risk of Rain by chance? XD Knowing that you did all the lines yourself makes it so much more impressive, but also tells me that certain things were nto set in stone, some accends were, in fact, your own interpretation. Doesn't make it worse. Makes it... More personal.

Haha! No there’s no voice acting in Risk. I’m flattered! :) Yep, a lot of it is open to interpretation. I’m glad you liked it.
I'm honestly really curious about the newt and everything surrounding him like how he got the lunar items and how he is how he is. idk if you'll do another one of these but.. yea
Thank you so very much for that bit at the end - you're amazing, man, and you're so damn supportive. The ror2 community... no, the entire youtube community as a whole is so lucky to have you!!
Dude those voices were awesome, how dare those Vermin tell you that they weren't

Loooool, thanks friend. ^^ I get it though! Totally not to everyone’s taste.
Didn't know you were a fellow game dev when i watched the first one, game looks really nice compared to my first game, art is rough for me!

Dude artwork is so hard. Thankfully there’s so much free stuff out there we can use, and a wealth of youtube tutorials. I swear, most of my degree was googling things until they looked nice lmao

@@Winsomnia There's never been a better time to start blender now that 2.0 has come out! Good luck, can't wait to see what you make.
A bit late to the party, but i really like your Grove tender voice :)

Thank you! 😊 She was quite fun to do. Of all the modulators I made, hers took the most tweaking.
I have to write down your motivation vs discipline thing, better than the rest of the videos lol (not that it was bad)
I always thought the reason the moon gets voided was because a godlike being is dead and they want to know why
I wish we knew more about the lore of the human society, i find the idea of this weird hyper capitalist space company cool
