What an absolute pleasure it is to sit and watch/listen to your videos. You have a way of describing and explaining that make everything so easy to understand. I’ve watch this particular video a number of times. I’ve never been into the new “trendy” and “all whistles and bells” equipment and so 1 year ago I bought a classic Fujifilm X10 and what a joy it is to use. It gave me the Fujifilm bug and I have today added an XT-1 to my bag. You are for me one of the easiest and most knowledgable camera KZreadrs out there….by a country mile. Thank you.

The joy of the Fuji cameras (size + functionality), plus the JPEG film sims, are the reasons I am migrating into the Fuji ecosystem for all my photography. I have come to love shooting with the film sims and eliminating the need for serious post-processing work (although occasionally I will need to do some minor post-process tweaks such as crop or minor lighting/ adjustment tweaks). Shooting this way is also teaching me to me a better photographer as I am learning to be slower and more patient, and practicing acceptance with my shots. I enjoy encountering a scene, picking the right "film" for the scene, and then shooting with it. I am finding it make the whole photographic experience has become more mindful for me and more satisfying. Part of the reason I love your channel is that you help keep me grounded in the joy and the art of the photographic experience, and not get caught up in the crazy tech-and-spec aspect of photography. You also continue to inspire me to stay connected to the experience and find joy in the art, not focus on trying to achieve "technical perfection" (whatever that even means). And for that, I thank you for helping me find a joy in photography that I have been longing for, but seemed to be a bit elusive. BTW, do you have an online gallery or website anywhere that hosts your images?

I'm very glad you're enjoying the channel, and that it's been of use in your photography. This is indeed an art form, and technical matters are only important insofar as they help us to find, or realise a vision. Having said that, I really appreciate the technology involved too!

So hard to find a recent comparison of older gear! thanks! I was worried you'd say the x-t1 images are better. I had an x-e2 in 2016, and couldn't believe the pictures. I opened up the pictures in the last 3 days (apr 2023), and feel the same way- completely impressed.

Tried the XT2 a few yrs back but didn’t like the results compared to my nikons. However, I was also shooting raw and wasn’t aware of the issues with using Lightroom. Since getting back into some film work, have since purchased the Xt1 and the X-pro1 via your and others recommendations for getting that film look while messing with the Fuji X Weekly film simulation recipes. Love both of these cameras, especially with using those vintage lenses. Looks like you’ve got the perfect setup with these Fuji’s too. As always thanks again for your serene Sunday sermons...

Recently bought an xt1 for almost nothing. One thing I’ve found is that the manual assist helps to get great results from manual lenses, vintage and modern. With the dial controls it’s as close to shooting film as you could get from a digital set up. Super happy with it. Can see my poor old Nikon Dslr getting relegated to very occasional use.

Nice, informative video! I recently started shooting film with an OM-2n and Zuiko primes (watched some great videos on this channel about these, too!). That led me to rethink my needs and goals within photography and I ended up consolidating the functionality of my two LUMIX cameras into an X-T2 - nicely complementing my analog camera and using the same lenses with an adapter for less space needs and weight. I ordered it today and I‘m really looking forward to the new possibilities this system and camera will offer me.

Beautiful images, that superb EVF and a sensor which has enough resolution to be detailed yet not enough to out-resolve older lenses. I would like to say, great video, very informative. You seem to be honest and unbiased in your thoughts on these cameras as to why they are still relevant after several generations of the X series, and I agree with everything in the video. Thank you. My first real camera that wasn't a phone, was the Fujifilm Xt1 back in 2014. My biggest reason I love Fujifilm is the tactile dials. If I may though, I would like to interject one side note, but don't quote me on this. I have been doing a fair amount of research on Fujifilm X series cameras as of late, in preparation for X summit next month since I no longer have a camera, and I am waiting to see what the 5th generation X series camera will be before buying another camera. But I vaguely remember hearing or reading somewhere that you don't have to shoot in film simulation if shooting in JPEG and can still change the film simulation recipe, as long as your post production software for editing your your photos is Capture One for Fujifilm instead of Lightroom. As I have heard Capture One for Fujifilm has the Simulation film recipes already on the software. Again anyone reading this should do they're due diligence in research, this is not a direct quote, I do not have or own Capture One for Fujifilm. This is just what I think I remember hearing somewhere?

I started with an X-T2, and today use two X-T3 cameras. Funny thing is that having the new cameras has relegated the X-T2 as a "beater" EDC camera that never gets left home. Having it always and not worrying about it allows me to actually use it as a tool, not coddle it as a precious thing. This has only reinforced the value of it. I'm now getting some of my best images from it because I actually have it with me and it is second nature in handling and controlling it. FWIW, my previous EDC was the X-E2s, which shares a sensor and processor with the X-T1. I do like the Acros over the generic mono, but the color jpegs can look nicer than more modern models.

Norning Nigel One of the main uses of the dual card slot on the Z-T2 is the ability to split the RAW and JPEG files across the cards, RAW on one, JPEG on the other. Having said that, I regularly shoot JPEG only on my Fuji's - as you know I favour the rangefinder style over the SLR style, so my X-E1, X-E2s and X-E3 cover pretty much all the earlier X-Trans sensors. Each sensor has its own look, its own feel; the images from each one are subtly different. The camera I grab most when I go out for a casual photo shoot is the X-E2s, I prefer the D pad over the X-E3's mini joystick. We are really spoilt for choice when it comes to these machines, a hundred years ago it would have been a choice of possibly 2 or 3, now we have dozens, if not hundreds at our disposal. Great times for Zenographers everywhere.

My X-T1 is so good (for stills) that unless you really need great continuous AF, there is no need for me to upgrade. I have a X-E3 too (upgraded from X-E2s). I noticed that I have had to do more experimenting with the custom settings for WB to get the film simulations matching the X-T1, but it can be done and once set no issues. The continuous AF is much better. I am now able to get at least a few in focus shots of my erratic dog's antics, but still plenty of failures occur! If this type of photography were to become my focus I think I would give the X-T2 a miss and upgrade to a X-T3. I got the X-E3 for two reasons. First I really like very small capable cameras (such as Olympus 35 RC) and secondly I was spending a lot of time experimenting with the square format, and the extra resolution is useful should further cropping be necessary. The ACROS simulation and better AF were just added bonuses, welcome but not required.

"For more modern and higher resolving lenses x-t2" well no, the X-T1 has no AA filter on a 16MP sensor, so its effective detail rendition is the exact same as a 24MP sensor with an AA filter. For sensors without AA filters (X-T1, D800E) just multiply by 1.5 to find the equivalent pixel count as a sensor with AA filter. Omar Gonzalez recently posted a pixel peeping video if you want to see the (non-existent) difference between X-T1 and X-T2. The only difference is in potential Moiré, but Fujifilm's Firmware takes care of this really well most of the time (unlike Nikon D800E)

The good thing is, somebody is always being upgrading, better AF, better video features, better whatever.....but many ppl are thinking, why the hell, the heck should i upgrade ?! It's good enough. And so is my nowadays (old) gear. The 16 MP X-Trans Sensors are special. I don't need 24, 26 nor 40 MP into the upcoming X-H2. I am perfectly fine with 16 MP. For some applications, it's still overkill. I love to shoot Film, and also 10 to 12 MP DSLRs. Gives me always a smile, when hitting the Shutter. For instance, i've made a few of my best shots just with 10 MP, and a "inferior" old 1 inch Nikon CX Sensor. Who cares?! On the small pictures sizes via web, nobody, noone noticed, how much MP a particular camera had, and if i am shooting with 10, 12, 16 or 24 MP, really doesn't matter. It's good enough. That's the point.

You can certainly use Leica lenses on the X-T2 - depending on whether they're L39 screwmount or M mount, you'll need either an L39 to Fuji X adaptor, or a Leica M to Fuji X adaptor. The simplest and cheapest of adaptors will serve you fine - all it does is hold the lens at the correct distance from the sensor so that it will focus.

Had to sell my a7riv and all my gear a few months ago. Switched recently to an X-T1. All I hear about it online is praise. Obviously it has its downsides especially with me coming from that difference in megapixels. Why did I choose the X-T1? It wasn’t just a money equation, I could’ve bought an X-T3. 1. More lenses with the less money spent on body. I can always upgrade later. 2. I use manual focus almost exclusively. Always have and always will. 3. I really enjoy the colors out of the X-T1 vs every other iteration I’ve seen of the X series cameras. 4. I don’t really print large prints anymore. Nor do I crop in as much as I used too. I used to do landscapes, now I shoot street. 5. I wanted a small camera for street photography so I’m not as “in your face” as I was with my massive a7riv with a battery grip. 6. I don’t ever shoot video. Seemed like a no brainer for me to get the X-T1. A fraction of the price of the others with something that would get me pretty much the same product.

Have both of them and can't force myself to sell any of them, despite having even more Fujifilm cameras. The one thing that bugs me about the X-T1 is that it doesn't work with Fujifilm's X RAW converter, which I tend to use quite a lot. On top of that, results from the X-T1 files developed in Lightroom or C1 are (almost) awful, compared to the files from later (X-trans III & IV) sensors. That makes the X-T1 a JPEG camera.
