Extremely interesting theory. I wrote a similar theory about a year ago on TVtropes, trying to unify *Fantasia*, but I had a completely different narrative in mind. Here it is: When Mickey (who, within the context of the theory, was actually created by Yen Sid from a normal mouse, like the animals in *Bedknobs and Broomsticks*) dreamed with the hat on, it was not actually a dream. That's why Yen Sid took it off before he went to sleep: it makes dreams come true… literally: • *Toccata and Fugue in D minor* is a part of his dream we didn't get to see, what he was dreaming just before he rose from the armchair and on to the stone pillar. • In *Pump and Circumstance*, the flood was caused by the rainclouds Mickey invoked while on the pillar. • *Rite of Spring* begins with stars… It is very suspicious that Mickey was manipulating stars not long before that. That's right: Mickey accidentally caused another Big Bang, leading to the formation of a suspiciously Earthlike planet in the Mickey-created cosmos. (or perhaps it's the rest of the movie that's not set on Earth, with Mickey creating ''our'' Big Bang. Who knows ?). • *The Nutcracker Suite*, *Dance of the Hours*, *The Carnival of Animals* and *The Brave Tin Soldier* are a consequence of Mickey firing magic everywhere at the end of the dream sequence; he actually cast the same kind of spell as on the broom in various places, causing plants, animals and inanimate objects to come alive throughout the world. • Likewise, when the "magic powder" Mickey created fell in the sea, it had similar effects on aquatic wildlife, leading to *The Pines of Rome*. • *Rhapsody in Blue* is another effect of this; it's the "wish-granting" spell that got cast everywhere. Thus why the protagonists's wishes all came true. • *Night on Bald Mountain* is the downside of the same thing, as the townspeoples's worst fears and superstitions came true in Chernabog. • *The Pastoral Symphony*'s storm was caused at the end when Mickey was messing up with lightnings. It's not Zeus that caused the storm, it's the storm that summoned Zeus. • The *Firebird* of the eponymous sequence was created by Chernabog (we already saw how Chernabog was himself created by Mickey). • So where the evil butterflies of the *5th Symphony*.

+ Aristide Twain Nya, I have another idea. What if... Chernabog was Mickey all the time?! O.O Think about it. Mickey feels full of power and in his dream he controls the entire universe. Just for fun destroys stars and planets. Only because he can. Chernabog is mad with power too and uses it indiscriminately to have fun doing evil. (Well, okay, Mickey is more destructive, because after all Chernabog is bad and scary but except throw a couple of demons to the fire, which don't recive hurt anyway, doesn't do anything else, but I think the parallelism is obvious) I see a metaphor there, even if it was never the intention. It fits even the fact that both Mickey and Chernabog are the most iconic characters in the film, so we can see them as two sides of the same coin. If we want to take this to a really spooky scenery we could think about the possibility that Chernabog was all the time the twisted image of Mickey in one of the universes that he destroyed inside his dream.

while I don't think all disney films are connected (I think that's just a theory that is popular now because since Tarantino and Pixar it became cool for work to be self referential and self contained) However I do think you're correct that there is a timeline in Fantasia. One that sweeps from absolute nothingness and absence to full bodied colour and abundance. It goes from exquisite beauty both natural and sublime, to comedy and draws back to simple nothingness. It has magic existing among myths and science with gods and demons. Then how it all started with sound and colours it ends in light and a crescendo. I just think it's artistically and visually brilliant and while it is just intended as interpretations of music I feel there is some kind of time line to it as a narrative that fits your theory

@woooudo ok so in one corner you’ve got me, a Disney fan who has played the kingdom hearts games and watched once upon a time and enjoyed it up until season 5 (not the best writing by then, sorry) stating that I love these things but I don’t see this as a canonical co existing universe that’s meant to be self referential, I just see it occasionally have Easter eggs. But despite that I still love the stuff. After uni I briefly considered working in the parks as Peter Pan because when I visited I got mistook for him by several people there. And in the other corner we have you who clearly also enjoys this stuff but chooses to lash out and insult someone... purely because they disagree with a theory about Disney content. Yeah someone here does need to get over themselves but it’s not me. Maybe address WHY this makes you so mad when you know nothing about me and didn’t take on board any of the love I’ve shown to the movie. This isn’t a political stance, a slight on a social group or denouncing a religious idea and yet you’ve reacted as if a comment I wrote 4 years ago about an old Disney music movie is offensive to you as a person. For your own sake address these anger issues because you’re not doing yourself any favours the way you’re going about it here.

My personal theory involves with Fantasia 2000 and other unused concepts of Fantasia. In the beginning, there was nothing. Afterwards, the first notes of the 5th Symphony plays and call forth the creation of the first beings, colored butterflies and the shaded bats. Their conflict resulted in the Big Bang, usher in the era of life and that's where Rite of Spring plays in. The story then progress through an age when dinosaurs extinct, the earth was flooded with Noah as the savior, until modern times when humans became the dominant beings on Earth. As humans evolve, music was invented and they possess a strange kind of magic that could conjure powers beyond anyone's imagination. Only conductors were able to conjure them to unleash fantastic melodies. Overtime, these melodies became neglected of their hidden potential, and more become showpieces for a concert. Suddenly an apocalyptic event is happening that would destroy the earth. The only way to save the planet is to perform the 5th Symphony by the conductor, and transforming the earth into a new world where magic fully exist. The creation of this new world is at the cost of extinction of all human life on the planet, and simply replaced by mythological creatures (gods, sprites, daemons) and animals doing impossible feats (such as dancing, human speech, flying, etc.). On that note, the conductor who performed the piece is the last human to ever exist in this new world, and he renounce his title as conductor to train in the art of sorcery. His name became Master Yen Sid, and he travel around this newly created world, studying spells, music, and the secrets that lurks deep within. One day, he discovers a Temple of the Hours run by an amalgam of dancing animals, and the temple acts as a time machine. Yen Sid chose to go forward in time to a time when animals becomes fully civilized in a modern society that mimics the thrive of human life back in the previous world. Then he stumbled upon a mouse with red shorts and yellow buttons. He asked the mouse to become his apprentice, and taking him back into his own time. In addition, he met a sailor duck who happened to be the mouse's friend. Yen Sid wondered what would happen if timelines can be enhanced rather than changed, and using this duck as an example of what it could do. And this, Yen Sid decide to bring the duck to Noah's timeline by becoming his assistant, just before the cataclysmic flood happened in the earth. Yen Sid then continue his neverending curiousity using time, space, and music in his element. And so this new world, whose blanketed in fantasy remains in existence until the end of time...

The DVD commentary for Fantasia also makes mention of the idea that one could interpret the film as one continuous story, a bit more broadly defined and, I'd argue, much less concrete than what you've laid out here. A general "life goes on/good versus evil" theme exists throughout the picture, but I think it can be more clearly seen in the second half than the first. Here's my take on it. Most of the first half is, as you said, concerned with the creation of life and defining the rules determining how it ought to behave. The "Tocatta und Fugue" is meant to acclimate us to this idea, although I don't think it's directly related to the story; we'll hear some of its musical flourishes in other songs, and many of the images we see during this sequence will recur in somewhat different forms throughout the rest of the film. The rest of the first half plays out as you stated, with one exception: "Nutcracker" shows us everyday life in all four seasons (essentially what we're fighting for), and the "Rite of Spring" complicates matters with history's first moment of good vs. evil, or maybe chaos vs. chaos since the dinosaurs probably didn't have consiences (either way, poor Stegosaurus). The second half is all just as you interpreted, but I think one could place Mickey's story in "Sorcerer's Apprentice smack in the middle of the village Chernabog haunts during "Night on Bald Mountain." What if the magical forces Mickey is trying to harness are still lingering in the air, even after Yen Sid intervenes? The leftover bits coagulated into Chernabog and came to rest on the mountain overlooking Yen Sid's tower. Going a step further, even Deems' interview with the "soundtrack" could be part of the overall story. This creature is what remains after being ravaged by Chernabog and taken to heaven, having been reduced to pure music; I just realized we see similar lines during "Tocatta und Fugue," so maybe it's been with us all along, communicating these broad ideas of life and morality to us in the only way it knows how. Holy "I've got the music in me," Bat-Deems!

I'd say no. Certain parts feel like they could be part of the original's story (I'd vouch for "Beetovhen's Fifth," "Pines of Rome," and "Firebird"; I'll leave it to you to determine what fits where), but the second film doesn't have much of a unifying theme compared to the first. In terms of art, I'd say it's like someone making a copy of a painting by the Old Masters: it looks nice and might make you feel good, but it's still just a pale imitation of the original. No offense to the team that made Fantasia 2000; it's a good film, but they'd go on to do greater things later.

Chernabog is a titan from hercules. He's the only evil titan that we know of that was able to get out of being put in the vault with the others, and he was able to do this because he could conceal himself in the mountain, hiding himself. Perhaps thats why he closes up in the sunlight. If he is exposed to the light, Zeus will find him and imprison him like the rest of the titans. Or at least thats what I think.

Chernobog is actually a Slavic deity. An ancient traditional holiday is associated with him. Walpurgisnacht. Basically a pagan Halloween holiday in ancient Slavic culture, in which the focus is on their god of destruction and death. Chernobog or Czernobog...the Black God. Mussorgsky is said to have based his piece, A Night on a Bald Mountain, on the holiday and the witches that worship Chernobog. And this was originally written in 1863.

Well since most humans are morons..of course you just see it as imagination.. Disney would not be in the top of the media food chain if that were the case. Let’s not forget Disney’s actual background and what he was part of. This 33rd degree mason/pedi file would not have the keys to the kingdom if he wasn’t part of something very powerful. They truly believe in sorcery and the power of duality. Every one of us watched Disney growing up. The mind/visual/ and sound have a lot of power in molding a human being. Think about that everytime you turn your hypnotic tube on. Your thoughts have always been programmed by the same bloodlines for thousands of years. I don’t call that a coincidence . There is something much more to this story of earth that needs to be payed attention too. How can such a small portion of “human beings” have soooo much power over billions? Why is Disney /Hollywood have some of the most sick and twisted? Back to sorcery and witch craft. Which is ruling our planet earth. Most have been under the dumb dumb spell. As we let whatever is in the hypnotic tube sway our thoughts in music/style/language . With the “family oriented “ Disney ..you will easily dismiss what door you just opened up into your home. I’m not a Bible Thumper..i don’t follow religions ..but there is good and evil. Evil has run Earth for a very long time. Any adult reading this..do you remember as a kid knowing your neighbors..looking out for eachother. That is long gone..this NWO has been programmed in our heads for the last century. I can go on, but it’s prob over many heads.

Interesting theory. I like it. You made a good argument for why it could all be one story. But what about Fantasia 2000? Where does that fit in, if it does at all?

i never thought anyone else thought of this idea and i feel amazed, even if not the same as my opinion. i believe the movie is, unlike explained in your video, in the order it must be and that all this matters don't fall by accident. for example, long before the first amphibians touched land, there was already vegetable and fungi life on earth, as well as many different insects during the carboniferous period that extended from 360 to 286 million years ago, and since not one species of animal life is shown beneath water level, we can "imagine" that fairies are but primordial insect life; the story of the apprentice might well be similar in some aspects as that of "gunther" in adventure time, where there's a powerful wizard capable of shaping the world to his will and to bestow intelligence to lower beings, such as mice, and in the same aspect, it can be compared to a "less immortal" version of paradise lost, where luzbel the beutiful rebels against god and is vanished from paradise, considering that the apprentice had all the power in his hands to play with and was broomed in the butt at the end, and then godly beings spawn and so own well into human history and society. last but not least, all souls in the after life dwindle in the living realm and those that live in disarray beocme demons, waiting for Walpurgisnacht to celebrate, rather than overthrow godly rule on earth as depicted in Faust, where it is but the greatest party of decadence in all existance; on the other hand, those souls that do not live in disarray, but rather follow the "parade" that several Buddhist and also shintoist religion depict: the life stream, the river of souls, the return to the prime dimension, bieng the first and the linear. i frankly realize i talked too much and this is easily the type of paragraph you don't want to read outloud in class, but i am just amazed to find out that i am not the only one who thought of this. also, i see below me someone asks for the connection to fantasia 2000. i think they wanted to give out the same idea and concept of evolution of life and magic involved into the formula, only removing the "God" factor and instead replacing that which seems divine and stating that it is done by a force of nature, except for the part of the noah ark, but disney always leaves traces to the belief of gods existance

Really good theory! I actually do really like the Disney-Connected Universe Theory however there is one question that's been tying my brain into knots lately. We all know Disney loves to borrow themes from Greek Myth (a-lot of artists do) but my question is how can the Greek Myths and more...Christian based characters such as the Chernabog can exist together. Maybe this is a situation where all belief systems coexist? Either way; good theory.

Wotso Videos and if I may speculate something else, if the first fantasia was building the relationship of magic in the Disney universe, could it be argued that fantasia 2000 was about love and family? Given the segments you see a lot of the relationships between people, family, loved ones and even the natural world. Could they be put in a chronological order, even by time period, that expresses that?

rw:quick note :back in the 1940s when this movie was made it did not go well with the critics in general it flopped ,but over the years of seeing fantasia, the movie itself raised the critics eyes then next thing you know it becomes a famous disney film, and of course the sequel aswell.

Gravity Falls may have ended by a few years by now, yes, but Fantasia is over 70 years old, yet people still talk about theories and backstories on it.
