@@pxvn1969 yeah but in the movie the actual person is Orion, not Optimus. Same person, if Optimus is proper made/introduced from the Autobot who was Orion then that will be different. But it's a prequel to show how Optimus became the Prime he is and same with the rest

What nobody realizes that Orion prime when he gets turned into Optimus prime, he was rebuilt before he gets the mantle. He is a different robot so he would have a different voice.

Some clarification: Peter Cullen wasn’t recast. Peter Cullen has simply never voiced Orion Pax before, only Optimus. They used a different, younger sounding VA for Orion back when he was used in the G1 cartoon. Besides, from all that I’m hearing, it sounds like Peter Cullen will be in Transformers: One, but only when Orion becomes Optimus Prime.

@@darthvaderdylan That was Optimus Prime with amnesia thinking he was Orion Pax, not Orion Pax proper. If it was genuinely Orion Pax then Optimus would have reverted to Orion in both mind and body as the flashback scenes show that Orion had a different design than Optimus. But all he did was revert back to his Orion persona, he didn’t fully become Orion again. Peter was voicing an Optimus who thought he was Orion Pax, but that was still Optimus Prime, not Orion Pax.

@@jaydonmagan4694Ok, it wasn’t Optimus thinking he was Orion. He simply was Orion given that the matrix is what makes Prime himself the experiences all of that is from the matrix. Also aligned continuity he wasn’t rebuilt like most versions.

To be fair, when Orion says “On three! One, two…”, Chris _does_ sound like Peter Cullen.

It makes sense. He was Orion Pax and then became Optimus Prime. He "grew up", so to speak. So yeah, he'll have a different voice.

True. I liked J.T. Foushee's performance in the WFC trilogy and I was introduced to transformers through the Unicron Trilogy and I watched TF Animated when it aired on Cartoon Network so I'm no stranger to hearing a different voice for Optimus Prime.

People have to remember that these are the "Young" versions of the cybertronians. Where Orion is not yet given the title of Prime, and where D-16's jealousy slowly led to his tyranny earning him the name Megatron.

Okay but when they went back in time to meet orion pax (in the comics i think) they didnt even recognize him as optimus prime because his voice was so different. It makes sense that Peter Cullen isnt voicing him

Depends on the comics continuity and there have been several. But in IDW at least the change is in title. He is still a badass before becoming Optimus prime. I really recommend everyone who considers themselves a transformers fan read idw's run that started in like...2005

I love it Cheis Hemsworth has done in my opinion a wonderful job of being young Optimus Prime we were introduced to Optimus when he was already weathered and aged I think Chris Hemsworth voiced young hopeful Optimus and did a damned good job at it. You can hear what will eventually become the Optimus we all know and love I'm glad they chose another voice to do the younger version

He fits pretty well for Orion Pax, I do hope Peter Cullen can come in after he becomes Optimus though. Genuinely my favorite voice actor

This doesn’t surprise me that they had someone else voice Orion Pax. I mean, in the original cartoon, when the Ariel Bots got transported back to the Golden Age of Cyberstron, Orion Pax was voiced by someone else. And Elita One who was Ariel back then, was voiced by the actor who played Jem in Jem and the Holograms

Does people ever just let Peter Cullen be? Hes already in his 80s give him a break, and in addition we aren't looking at Optimus Prime, we are looking at Orion Pax.

It’s not just that people want to see him in bigger roles, but he himself has went on record, stating that he wishes that he could always play Prime in transformers media, but a both Hollywood and hasbro don’t seem too keen on giving him these roles now for whatever reason. It’s just passionate fans being passionate about their favorite role model.

It’s not that weird. Cullen hasn’t even voiced the majority of Optimuses. He’s the most famous, but hardly the only choice for the role.

Rule number 1: most of the time, don't take the fandom's opinion too seriously. They'll always find something to criticize, no matter how good something is.

As jarring as it is at first, keeping in mind just how long the Autobot-Decepticon war was, and that we are starting a great deal of time before that, with Orion Pax not Optimus Prime, I find it believable that Optimus’ voice could have easily changed over time. After fighting to free Cybertron, then millions of years of warfare, during which countless friends and comrades have been lost in the war, carrying the burden of command, leadership, not to mention injuries he may have suffered as well, having his voice change with time is not inconceivable. Just like I don’t expect Kup from G1 to have sounded the same as he did in the 1986 Animated Film, as he would have when he was a young and inexperienced Autobot.

They should have gotten Dick Terhune, who voiced Optimus in video games and animated cartoons. He's fantastic

Chris hemsworth did an amazing job doing a young optimus voice. I honestly could believe it eventually turning into what he'll eventually sound like. even though he's a sought after actor, he still put in real effort to mimic peter Cullen's impression unlike what chris pratt would've

Also, people need to realize Peter Cullen has only voiced about half the incarnations of Optimus. Armada/Energon/Cybertron? Not Peter. Animated? Not Peter. Beast Wars? You get the idea. He really only voiced G1/ G2, the Bayverse, and everything since the Bayverse. There's a good 15-year chunk of no PC voicing OP. It doesn't HAVE to be him. It SHOULD be, but it's not a requirement.

Peter voice so iconic, but don’t forget Optimus prime in so many version voice by some different actors.

Peter won't be around forever. I think they nailed it with this replacement. I believe that we will grow to love it.

Dude, this is literally where Optimus is supposed to be mortally wounded so that he CAN be rebuilt to talk like Peter Cullen!

Transformers fans always throw a tantrum when peter cullen doesn't voice optimus despite the fact that peter hasn't always been the voice of optimus.

When Prime has been recast like 26 times already for real, pretty sure the hardcore fans have consumed most of the different series 💖

You guys are so lucky. Here in Turkey we lost our og voice actor of Optimus Prime :(

I'm always open to new actors playing the role. It's ridiculous to expect Peter Cullen to play the role forever. What is important is if the actor attempts to bring the feel of Optimus that Peter established in the role. Chris definitely sounds like he's trying to give the sound of G1 Optimus.

Some of us have been hearing Cullen as Prime for literally our entire lives. That's literal decades. It's ALWAYS going to be difficult to hear another Optimus.

There have been more shows without Cullen as Prime than with him, many of which came out before the live-action movies. If you’re not used to different VAs by now it’s because you haven’t been paying attention.

@@magnusprime962 Oh I have been...and they're just not the same. I was born in 1982. I was there for gen 1 Transformers. I've literally been here since the beginning...and that beginning was Peter Cullen. I couldn't name any of the other VA's offhand because they just don't hit right the same way Cullen does. That's not to say the other VA's are bad actors in their own right (though some of them are...mediocre at best;) but Peter Cullen MADE Optimus Prime. He just got it THAT right. It's not everyday a voice brings a character to life that perfectly but once it happens, it's DAMNED hard for anyone else to truly take their place. To call him "Iconic" is a staggering understatement. Optimus may be the last Prime...but Peter Cullen was the first.

People who think this is weird clearly never grew up in the era from Beast Wars to Animated. Before the “live-action” movies took off, we had Garry Chalk, Daniel Riordan, & David Kaye as Optimus.

What an INSANE set of shows to step into. Honestly chris, nice work

The guy that made Bumblebee, the Cybertron war in the beginning. That shit was dope. He should be making Transformers movies. He's a true G1 fan he's 50 I'm 52. We were there man!!!

And plenty of other TF media has been catering to your demographic for the last fifteen years. G1 is getting new comics, cartoons, and toy lines every few years. There’s plenty of material out there for you. It’s okay for Transformers to do different things too.

To me, Peter's deeper voice is for a Prime that's seen ages of conflict and strife in his older age. With Chris, there's still some young and hope in his portrayal of Orion Pax.

When I watched this trailer, I felt like I was reliving Bionicle a little.

Fun fact, in g1 we see that before he was optimus, he was orion pax, and in g1 Orion sounded very different than optimus in the same show, so this makes a lot of sense

I'm so tired of this whole argument! I am 46 years old. I was there when this entire Transformers franchise kicked off, so trust me when I say, Chris Hemsworth is NOT voicing Optimus Prime!!! He is voicing Orion Pax!! Period! It's like people being angry that Megatron isn't being voiced by Frank Welker, (which they aren't by the way) same deal, he's NOT Megatron yet, he is D-16, they are just labor bots. This is the beginning of the story. I know, the really good stuff comes later, but that shouldn't take away from the fun of seeing these characters in their youth, before the factions, before the falling out, and before the war!! I'm betting 1000/1 they plan on bringing in our "classic" voice actors once their inevitable changes happen! If they want this to register with old fans and new, then that's exactly the plan, mark my words!! As far as I'm concerned, just take my 💰💰💰!! 😂😂

I think this is a great step in the right direction. Having Megatron and Optimus be best buds, is a bit weird, but it makes what happens to them both all the more interesting. This is the first Transformers film I am actually excited to see. Long time fan, I don't mind the re-casting if they are true to the lore and the characters.

Theres like two moments where it gets soooo close to sounding like peter and I dont know why. His "3,2,1..." countdown and his. "We stand together AS ONE" Its like right there. I dont know if it was intentionally made that way but im willing to watch this movie as see how his performance plays out.

I'm used to Optimus not being voiced by Peter Cullen, I mean his and Primal's main voice actor during the 1990s to the mid 2000s was Gary Chalk, plus David Kaye, Jake Foushee/Tillman, and Alan Tudyk have all voiced him, and very well I might add. Especially Gary Chalk and David Kaye.

I’ve watched almost every version of Transformers from G1 to Rise of the Beast. Anyone who has only seen Beyverse Transformers, may not realize that even though Peter Cullen is the Original voice of Optimus Prime, he is not the only person to voice this iconic character. There are multiple animated shows that have Optimus voiced by different incredible actors.

Did people forget that Optimus Prime was never voiced only by Peter Cullen? I like Gary Chalk and David Kaye's takes on Optimus, and currently Alan Tudyk is doing pretty well in Earthspark, and so is Hemsworth in this movie from the looks of it.

My problem with the film is that it shows them all as miner-bots for their origin story but that was only megatrons story, Orion was a librarian desk clerk, the difference in classes was super important for the narrative of the war.

This is clearly a transformers movie for the kids. And that’s perfectly fine. And Chris really does seem to be doing his all for this role and I respect that. I’m more worried on how they’re somehow gonna give megatron THAT hair style

Also for all of you just getting into the transformers Fandom out there, here is a little fact... in the original transformers media from the 80s (g1 as it is officially referred to, short for generation 1) orion did have a different voice before he became optimus prime, so even the source material also supports the idea of optimus having a different voice when he was younger

Actually the vocal tonal change should be expected. Remember that Orin Pax is not Optimus Prime. Orin is a records keeper and is much meeker in is youth prior to earning the Matrix’s of Leadership. It wasn’t until Orin was reborn Optimus Prime that his voice became the iconic voice we all know and love. Besides, eventually a new voice actor would have to be found for when the voice actor retired or worse passed on. By the sound of this clip Chris Hensworth’s voice is a pretty good match. Albeit it having the tinges of youth and of course notes of his own voice. But he did a really good job of not sounding like himself, or Thor.

Depends on the continuity. This must be based on the one where he was a miner, though he did spar in the arena when off duty.

I mean, Orion Pax was completely rebuilt, which is one reason why he gets a different name and voice and also why other bots remark that he was completely changed when he received/earned the Leadership Matrix. Also, as you grow older your voice differs from age to age.
