Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation. Her mother beat her every day, and she never ate fruits and vegetables, only herring. Abandoned on the street with a broken collarbone. Her mother is an alcoholic, drug addict and prostitute, she had 12 abortions before being forced to keep Diana. Her father is unknown, a passing customer.

Elvis is one of many people who have covered this song ! My grandmother sang this song in 1920. ORIGINAL song is French ! It's a romance "PLAISIR D'AMOUR". As a contralto with a wide range, superb emotive abilities, extreme laryngeal control, and polyphonic overtones, Diana is a vocal unicorn. She may very well be utterly unique. Despite an extremely harsh early life (see below) and all the accolades and success she has had as a young singer, she is, by all accounts, an incredibly grounded and humble young woman. ~~~ Diana's birth mother was an unmarried alcoholic. Diana was the first of 12 children to survive past infancy. As a young child (age 3) she was abused and nearly drowned by her mother, then thrown out into the street in the winter with a broken arm. Her relatives didn't want her because they thought she was mentally damaged so she ended up in an orphanage. Fortunately, she was adopted by a lovely lady who worked there as a masseuse. She took singing lessons as a therapy for her speech problems. After suffering recurring nightmares about her birth mother returning, her adoptive mother moved her far away. She sang in the show, "You Are Super" for abused / underprivileged children, which she won two years in a row. She also won more than 50 other competitions. Her video performances together have more than 500 million views.

Diana does have an album coming out soon. She just performed her 1st year finals song at The Russian Institute of Fine Arts, she has some tour dates in Russia coming up. Everything is ahead of Diana. She's a special talent.

First, her control over her straight tones is incredible. Second, in the remarks portion, multiple members of the jury remarked on the unbelievable amount of energy they felt moving through them during this performance-they said they'd never experienced anything like it. The gentleman who stood up in the jury, is the husband of Russian uber-soprano Anna Netrebko, so he knows powerful voices (he's an opera singer himself, Yusif Eyvasov)! He was just stunned by her. Hello, VQS Studio, this is really a singing contest. This production of Russian broadcasting company NTV consists of 9 separate shows on each Saturday. As a matter of fact the 9 "judges" are the participants of the contest - 9 professional singers. They are supposed to distribute points to each other from 2 to 9 points in the end of each show. The contestant cannot vote himself. In each program there is an invited guest, who can distribute his or her 9 points according to his will whether between the participants or all 9 points, for instance, to one singer. In the above show the invited guest was a professional opera singer - the gentleman with a beard who jumped up and was sitting next to Diana on upper row. After the 5th show Diana is leading with more or less 10 points. The singers can not choose the songs they are supposed to perform. The songs will be of different genres chosen by the producer of the show. Diana stated in an interview that there was only 3 songs of 9 that she liked.

I strongly disagree...this song belongs to Diana now, it was Elvis who did the cover version. :) More seriously, the depth of emotion that Diana brings to this performance is beyond anything I have ever seen. The opening visual showing her reflection always makes me think of the sweep of human history and the suffering that love wrought on generation upon generation of women. No man has ever died giving birth to a child. She is unique. The only consolation I have writing this is that I'm sure no-one will ever read it.
