That has to be by far the best sermon I have ever heard and I’ve heard a lot. Thank you for your common sense approach to something that is at odds with everything I believe.

I love that you pointed out that Jesus knows that what he is speaking is not true and he is testing the woman and her faith. I've seen people quote that verse to support their views, citing that because Jesus never sinned he never lied, and he only came to serve God's people.

As you can imagine, this is the first time I've heard this method of interpretation, particularly regarding the nature of Joshua. As such, it raises questions for me for how you'd approach the Prophets and messages of judgment there. Do you have another sermon that elaborates on that?

Thank you for this message! This topic was very conflicting for me. I won't go into details except to say now, I have a more robust and Jesus centered interpretation of the Bible. It has forced me to find other employment making less money than I could otherwise, but I'm ok with that. Side note to Zach: I am a DTS student, so I imagine you are as familiar with the geography of Israel as you are that of Texas. The takeover of Canaan not only omits land that had been promised to Abraham, it also includes land (mostly modern day Jordan) that was not.

In Genesis God sent a flood that destroyed all of mankind except Noah and his family. You start your sermon right after this event. So in your interpretation of the Bible, did this not happen? I’m really concerned that you are leading your flock to some bad ideas. Timothy says that all the Bible is God breathed and worthy of reproof. That means even the parts we don’t feel good about, even the parts that don’t paint God in the light we prefer, even the parts the the enemy will whisper in people’s ears and have them use to justify atrocities. Please be very, very careful when you suggest alternative interpretations to scripture

Zach, God doesn't need to be defended. You don't need to appeal to loose interpretations to make Him look 'nicer.' He is the creator and taker of life (Rom. 9:21), the bringer of peace and calamity (Isa. 45:7). He used Israel to eradicate the wicked people of Canaan, that is the truth.
