to be honest there are 3 advantages to sending such a person into wasteland 1) value - he is mentally undeveloped and probably required a lot of help and resources so sending him to the wasetland will eliminate him as a problem if he succeeds good if not nothing of value will be lost and he no longer requires attention 2) security -he can't even say a single sentence meaning enemies won't learn location of the vault 3) compensation - since he lacks intelligence he will compensate by other stats I usually dump gotten points into strength making mc oneshot everyone and low intelligence or not sending terminator on such a dangerous mission will be more effective than any other person in a long run

I believe one of developers made some sort of interview about it. You are not the first one sent to find the chip, so it could as well be a straw game and you were unlucky to pick the shortest one. In the case of this video, a total moron was sent. Nice way to clean your gene pool if he was like that from birth. Keep in mind it was a closed vault which was ordered by the US government to stay in prolonged isolation, little genetic variety would start to be a problem the longer they would stay like that.

To be fair, it's probably not like people were lining up to go risk their lives in a dangerous wasteland. The other vault dwellers are so soft that if you have a weapon equipped and talk to them, they gain hostile dialog and resent you for walking around with gun. And one of them got killed by rats before even leaving the caves.

@@Jebu911 Yeah, but human speech and human development works like that. When you have a long standing relationship with someone you begin to understand him even through non-verbal cues. Overseer is somewhat of a father figure to you, as the vault is tribal in nature. Which makes it fukd up, when he kicks you out - even players understanding this dynamic and react with being upset at the guy. You meet most of the characters for the first time so it makes sense that they don't understand you. Most don't even care, because they are selfish azzholes that get annoyed at mild inconvenience therefore they don't put the effort to actually understand you. Obviously Vault Dweller is saying something, but I would say most reactions are realistic in the setting. The cherry on top would be making some kind of dynamic system, when people you interact with multiple times start to understand you more, but yeah. The one oddball that has a better emotional intelligence and understands you makes sense as well.

The best part of having a low int run in Fallout 1 is dumping everything into other things so you can 1 punch people and fist fight deathclaw

The facial animation in the Black Isle Fallout games was actually pretty ingenious, it kind of attempted to do what many game developers do today by scanning a real object and using that for the face model, except instead of using a real person's face; they got artist Scott Rodenhizer to sculpt several clay heads for each important character, also making variations of each head with different facial expressions for each frame of animation. Yeah, they scanned a friggin clay head bust of each character into the game, they used a bunch of different programs to scan and texture the models then digitize them into the game, mostly Lightwave, Vertisketch, Faro Space Arm and Photoshop. Honestly that's just extremely dedicated, and that's not even mentioning the voice acting, that's all phenomenal too.

Watching this makes me realise the stark difference between modern fallout and even RPG games and this beauty. There's a part in the game where u meet another low intelligence NPC and you're the only one who can understand him. Ps: Love when Harold says "You're worse off than I am xD". And Lou's sarcasm.

Geeee, in those days zero intelligence meant literally ZERO INTELLIGENCE

Low INT run is even better when you realize that you're sent out by the overseer and denied entry at the end.

@@evilcatfuhreal you know what tho it does make me picture a really wholesome like epilogue where it shows the devastated parents who are really too old to go looking and this nice women who’s been a close family friend is the first to leave solely to find and help the vault dweller and she ends up becoming his wife. Likes she’s the brains and he’s the brawn sort of cute relationship and then we get to see them create the settlement fallout 2s protagonist will eventually grow up in. Lol I got that Starman song in my head playing over this little epilogue, especially at like first encounter where he just casually beats a deathclaw to death for her and say it’s kinda dangerous out here.

@@courier6945 You're probably right, I actually had to google an example and can only find one regarding a Securitron, I've finished the game 100% with all collectibles and all missions and so on but spent FAR more time with NV both in and out of game so that got kind of muddled. Another reason NV is superior lol.

@@kotzpenner I didn't even know about that protectron being uniqe, it seems that Bethesda opted for the opposite of low intelligence dialogue and instead give us "Intelligence" dialogue, i quote intelligence because NPCs think you have 200 IQ just because you repeat what they said or saying the obvious, yup NV for the win.

Protagonist - drools on themselves and wearing no pants. Vault Overseer - "That's the hero who will save us all!"

Brotherhood of Steel a lot more polite when they were more xenophobic and outright refusing recruits. Ironic.

Some npcs point this out. Saying she would be a good leader but that she has to work her rage issues out.

I just realized how passive aggressive Tandi is with the player and the amount of Sub-brick levels of intelligence the player has.

I like how the perk in Fallout 4 is the name Loxley gives the player in 1 for being low INT.

i like how some of them have great expectations about you at first, but once you open your mouth they become instantly frustrated

"why do you disturb an elder of the cathedral?!" "mom?" "HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME IN THAT MANNER."

You know, it is really endearing that the overseer is able to understand the dweller. I know he isn't a good guy in the end, but this shows how involved he is with his job.

@@benfryback9878 Which is funny because Futurama wasn't out until 1999 this game was 97 but it's the same voice actor.

Imagine being so blisteringly stupid that even the Master is like "Mate I'm not going to lie, I don't think even my magic super juice can help you".

Its amazing how many people in fallout cut the bullshit as soon as they realise their platitudes are lost on you. Shows you that fallout is not always what it seems and also who is truly themselves.

I noticed quite a few voice actors throughout this clip. Funny enough, one of them sounded like Malcom McDowell and he does the voice for the president Kimball in FO3 too.

You kinda have to give the OG fallout credit for having such a great voice cast.

I think it'd be interesting if the Followers of the Apocalypse had some sort of medical stuff that would raise your INT by 1, it'd make more sense than just shooing you away

They got that implant eventually, if I recall. Dr. Usanagi from New Vegas sells a permanent +1 INT implant, and at a discount if you a dumbhead.

After speaking a second time with low int, Brotherhood guard told me i might want to go to Glow and gave some rad-x and told not to swallow them now, but when i get there. Also missing Killian Darkwater too

This is how people treat you in Fallout 4 with 11/10 intelligence

Something I notice about these talking heads... Now, I know it was 1997, and I imagine there wasn't much of a budget, but in most cases, only the mouths move. There's just like, nothing going on in the eyes, apart from occasional blinking. May have been passable at the time, but now it just looks weird.
