Nice review. Got my THOR, now on 4"year, and it never disappoints me. I use my THOR very hard, chopping hard wood, hacking hole in the frozen lake for fishing...you name it. I carry it on a crossbelt, from shoulder to waist, so I allways can get it, in all situations. As a second knife, I use a norman bushcraftknife, I made of a metalwork file. I can recomend the THOR. Best regards. BMA DK

Anybody who complains about the expense of a Fallkniven - go and check the cost of custom knives such as a Bob Loveless knife with Micarta scaless costing $5000-$10,0000...then realise that the Fallkniven is AT LEAST on par regarding component quality and build quality for a mere $300-$500....!?!?.....it's a no brainer,...Fallkniven is the bargain of the century. Outrageous value.

@VengeanceIV The Thor blade is longer (10" vs. 9"), The Thor blade is thicker (7mm vs. 6.3mm), The Thor has a convex grind which is a notch above the BM's semi-convex grind. The Thor has laminated steel vs. BM INFI steel. Finally, as for looks, next to the Thor the BM looks as plain as a bale of hay. Sounds like the Thor is the winner to me.

@XxxTHSxxX Those are two very similar knives. The main difference is the CS is VG-1 and the Fallkniven is VG-10. Also the CS has a kraton handle which has a rubberized feel vs. the resin impregnated leather washers of the Fallkniven handle. Both excellent knives, I don't see you going wrong with either one. Yes, I like the Natchez and will get to it as soon as I can.

The steel is VG-10 and 420J2 so it is stainless steel as opposed to carbon steel, nevertheless it can rust if you don't take care of it. As a wise man once said, "...stainless steel will stain less". Yes, it is absolutely a survival knife. That is what it was made for.

    1. You can get a Fallkniven A2, (unexpensive version), it's much lower price. 250 usdollar in 2016, now 300 2. People need stainless steel, not everyone like deal with carbon steel 3. Cold Steel isn't Fallkniven, VG-10 isn't VG-1.

@@sanporco6600 my point exactly, many people go on about Fallkniven as if they are superior in some way to Cold Steel, and looking at the price points of Fallkniven they seem to price them as if they are 'better' than Cold Steel and yet they are no better in any way. Have a look at the Fallkniven Modern Bowie, here in Australia they are AUD$1200 for that sort of money I could get a full blown CPM-3V (at HRC 60 with cryo) custom bowie made exactly to my specifications that would shit all over the Fallkniven. That's a Busse Mistress price point, again a knife that would shit all over the Fallkniven.

I've had both Thor and MB but Thor might be a bit more robust when it comes to abrasion resistance of the blade and the handle material. Ox hide and Thermorun are both ductile and thus ideal for big knives like these but since MB has no butt cap on pommel, I'm not sure how the handle is affixed to the tang (probably glued to the tang). I gave up my MB and now I own 2 Thors.

The NL series, are Trail Master clones, made by the same manufacturers as the San Mai III Trail Master, (and all the other Cold Steel San Mai knives, along with all the laminated Fallkniven Knives) with slight modifications to the cross guard, and leather handled instead of Kraton. Also VG-10 at the core instead of Cold Steel's. Having had laminated knives made both by Fallkniven, and Cold Steel, I gotta say, the VG1 holds up much better to field use. The VG10 chips VERY easily, and is not made for okay use. Probably why it makes for such a good chef's knife. Also why VG1 is used in high speed food processing machines. I'd imagine in slicing exercises, that vg10 would hold its edge for a bit longer-it isn't enough of a difference to make up for how fragile it is at impact work (like chopping)

I'd say save up for one that you can buy from a reputable dealer. You can always return it if you don't like it.

"Last outdoor knife you'll have to buy" If you buy knives that expensive, that means you're a knife nut. Which means you're lying to yourself.

it's spelled TOR in Swedish. Fallkniven is a swedish brand so i don't see the point in writing it in English...

Why should a real Northman and a real Northman, Viking Company should write the names of their old gods in "hollywood-style-english" - tell me please? Just that a few american hillbillies can understand it, when sitting behind their TVs with their fat stomachs and watching real "american" T"H"OR movies - made in the US?
