Falling into the Hands of the Living God, Thomas Keating

Britannica.com says that the transcendent "appears as a 'mysterium tremendum et fascinans' - that is, a mystery before which humanity both trembles and is fascinated, is both repelled and attracted. Thus, God can appear both as wrathful or awe-inspiring, on the one hand, and as gracious and lovable, on the other."
Fr. Thomas Keating explores this concept in greater detail, helping us ponder the awesomeness of God and our relationship with God.
Fr. Thomas gave this talk at a Contemplative Outreach Circle of Friends retreat at St. Benedict's Monastery in Snowmass, Colorado July 2013.

A few years ago, I woke one morning, sat bolt upright in my bed and my eyes became like microscopes. I saw into the molecules of everything in the room, then into the atoms, then inside the atoms, then inside those tiny particles. Down and down I saw until everything melted away inyo a single substance which I knew as the purest Love. Unconditioned, unconditional. This Love did not need to be sent anywhere or received by anyone as it IS the very substance of everything. Weeping and laughing at the same time, I passed my days and nights for months. Love is thus both the infinitesimally minute and the unimaginably huge. There is no difference, neither time nor space. It has left me now and I live on in ordinary daily life. ❤

This may be one of most meaningful talks I’ve heard from Fr Thomas. Having seen and been w him at Snowmass and in lectures elsewhere, this revelatory lecture (testimony/presentation) invited me into a new kind of “letting go and letting God experience. Thomas’s ability to relate to science, psychology, and spiritual depth invites me to a much needed trust in these final years of my life. I go rejoicing…🙏

He is never false. He never affects a religious, “peaceful” tone. You feel his genuineness in a single second. He doesn’t have a sanctimonious bone in his body.

Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through the Son.” John 14 Keating is doing a metaphysics based on the suppressed premise of evolutionary science of the progression of the Spiritual, much like Plato’s world of forms using the language of Christian theology but certainly not Christian Gospel of the Cross. In Plato’s Forms we come from God, progress to remember the forms, then return to God. In another place he even says we are one with God already but just don’t know it. We have forgotten it just like in the Forms of Plato. There was no Big Bang. This mystical world view is Demonic, playful. I think.
