Fall Lengths
It's a frequently asked question ''How long should the fall be on a X foot whip?''.
I'll talk about about how a nice fall length relies more on the taper of the whip than the length of the overlay.
NOTE:
In the beginning of this video I said the fall on the Jacka bullwhip was 4 foot long. I ment to say 3 foot long!

in the middle of my 2nd whip build. thanks for the detailed tutorial. great to know about the various nuances.
Nice video, Johnny! And great explanations! ;)
Nice explaination, this helps my understanding of whip making in general, without a doubt!
Good insight into falls, once again, thank you
Also of interest is the thickness of the fall leather... On most whips I'll use a 4mm thick whitehide and taper it to a very fine point. But on short thin whips that are not as big, I'll use a 3mm latigo leather and also taper it to a fine point. The difference may seem insignificant at first glance, but the result is surprising; on a short and thin whip, the thicker whitehide will just slow the whip down, but if the whip is like a full-size bullwhip but just 3' long, the energy from the thickness at the transition is such that the whitehide is perfectly suited. It's a multi-variable evaluation and there is no real equation, just trial and error.
As soon as you cracked out the graphs, the video got a like
How much would it cost one of those wips ?

What's up Lorenzo. Depends a bit on style and length among other things but you can find a general price guide on my site. www.witchcraftwhips.se/price-guide

I did the math, an 8 foot bullwhip with no specialty work comes swinging past 700 dollars....
