Fall Favorites! Cozy Bed Decor & My Health Update! GrandMillennial Decorating

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I did a mini-makeover of my bedroom so September Favs are fun! Cozy decor, skincare, clothes, and a health update after I was in the hospital with Diverticulitis. My 2 Bedroom Apartment is getting cozy for winter and I want to show you what I have added. I also have deep conversations with a few ducks I want you to meet! Perhaps one oat bar is just not a good idea in a crowded party of ducks!
What makes a house a true home in fall and winter? I am trying to get warm and cozy for my apartment here is very cold in the winter!
Please know how much you mean to me. I so look forward to seeing you every week and reading your words of wisdom and sharing your heart. You make my life so bright.
What gets you through a long night?
Love you to the moon and back and I always will,
xxoo Susan & Sweet Desi

I am a retired RN, and worked in palliative care my last 7 years of my career. Patients would tell me how much they missed their pets so I would tell their family to bring in the pet to visit. I would tell them to walk confidently past the receptionist…do not ask for permission, just act like they had permission, lol. It warmed my heart to see how happy these fur babies made their people❤️ (ps, no one ever got in trouble 😉)

When my husband was hospitalized for COVID in 2021, our dog Nara wouldn’t leave my side. She was my comfort and I couldn’t see my husband while he was in the hospital. By the grace of God he came home. Nara will be 14 in December.

Don't be afraid. There are many living alone with no family and few or no friends. You have an amazing gift that introduces you to people and great conversation. Its MING!!! Best friends are found walking your Ming!!! I'm alone also and not outgoing but have connected with others even grocery shopping. Perhaps volunteer or your faith community. You have so much to offer to others! Put a smile on your face and say hello while you walk with Ming. Weather is always a good way to start a conversation. Be blessed ❤

Hi Susan First let me start by saying I am sorry you were so sick. I know how you feel being alone and being sick. I am married but my husband works away from home so I am alone 95%of the time. Those were some of my loneliest, scariest times but i always feel so strong and proud of myself after. Do you? I also have two dogs and they are so loving and I truly don’t think I could survive without them Little Desi is just the sweetest little gentleman isn’t he? I am so glad you have him ❤ Second I would like to offer one more comment if I may? I started watching your content when you only had a few thousand Subscribers. I don’t comment all that often. I’m sorry. I just wanted to let you that watching your video is like getting a warm hug. The sound of your voice, your apartment behind you, the music, Desi, all of it. I had to tell you. I can’t thank you enough. I don’t know if you will ever see this this I hope you do Sending you Peace, Love and Healing Light. ✌️❤️✨

I know you have said you don't spend a lot of money in decorating, but you do know how to put together simple things like little lights, plants, flowers, pictures, etc. I love it. I love that you share so much of your life with us. I love little Desi too. He looks just like my little Otie. The biggest illness I had was breast cancer. My dear husband was with me throughout. His employment allowed me to financially take a year off from work. I am very grateful he was with me. He passed away last year. I'm fortunate to have my kids and grandkids nearby. My 47 old daughter Cresta died of metastatic breast cancer one year ago. Her first bout of cancer came at 32 and returned at 43. She battled for four and a half years before taken from us. This took a really hard toll on both of us and her sister and brother. We all have dogs and they became our support animals. Cresta was a vet technician and loved animals. She had a Pomeranian and a very large Standard Poodle which were always by her side at all times when she suffered so. I have been in a depression since she died. I think I am slowly coming out of it but I have had my Aussie, Cowboy, by my side through out the last five years. There is no way I could have dealt with this horrible ordeal without him. He was my rock and I know Cresta’s two dogs were her’s too. Bless all our little furbuddies that bring us joy and contentment.

Hi Miss Susan... I love and adore this video... you are just so open and honest. I was in tears over your health issue... and I'm so glad that you are on the mend. The part that really got me was Desi's intuition... and it just hit home for me. It's been a hot minute since I was going through my battle with breast cancer. My journey started in April 2005 and ended in December 2005... that's a long time. But I had 3 beautiful hound dogs (all girls) that never left my side... it was as if they had to be right next to me in order for THEM to survive. They brought me so much love, peace and solitude. I truly believe that dogs have a certain sense when it comes to suffering... either with human suffering or even other animal's suffering. Desi was your comforter... and that is a wonderful thing to experience. I always think about the different things I see in print that dog is God spelled backwards... and I think there may be a little something-something to that. Again, this video is just so special to me, as so many of yours are.. Kindest hugs, Penny Sue

I just want to sincerely comment on how the quality and content of your videos have soared since I first dialed in to your channel. I’m 74 and “unattached” for 30 years. I retired and as at times life sends different plans I found that my 46 year old daughter with lifelong physical challenges required living with me once again. My oldest daughter lives near by so we “time share” her sister’s need for help between our two homes. I have always been a strong independent soul but there have been times when I was faced with serious health issues that I thought how nice it would be to have someone just bring a bowl of soup or a cup of hot tea. And yes, the nights were long. I have had two Corgis that were “tuned in” as Desi to you. Age and illness took them. I now have cats and they are a comfort but not like my pups. You are such a soothing balm and I admire all you’ve accomplished. I wish you continued good health. ❤️ From Texas

I just love your channel. I went to the ER a year ago and the doctors suspected Diverticulitis. I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. It's been a very challenging year for me. Thankfully my entire family are in Healthcare (including myself. I was at work when this pain started but refused to be taken to my own ER) and I had my own medical team to care for me. I underwent two surgeries, one round of chemo then opted out for holistic treatment. I am now cancer free and whole again. I am thankful for each new day. My adult kids and my two little rescue kitties gave me peace when I would get overwhelmed. I will be downsizing myself in the spring and moving to a new state. I am very excited about this next chapter in my life. Thanks for sharing so many wonderful tips. I also love lights throughout my home. I have them on every tree I have. It's so romantic, even if it is just for me :)

Diverticulitis is the result of a low fiber diet. Those of us who eat plant-based whole foods diets do not get these diseases. Please add more whole plant foods to your diet! I'm so glad you're feeling better! The beautiful way you arrange items and decorate your apartment is such an inspiration and your positive attitude brings joy everywhere, as does your interaction with your darling Desi. I haven't been really ill in the last few decades but whenever I've been in the deepest pain of mourning a lost loved one, both my dog and my horse have known just how to best minister to my needs and bring such comfort!

I'm in the same situation as you are Susan, minus a pet. When I was sick and in pain by myself, I kept reminding myself that someone else is praying for the things I take for granted. As I lay on the couch, I thanked God that I could see , and thanked him for my eyes because others can't see. I thanked him that I could hear the birds outside , others would love to be able to hear , etc, etc...I thanked God for the smallest things that I had, and that's what got me through day by day. So glad to see you're feeling better !

I have it, and I lost 6 inches of intestinal tract, and appendix. It is the worst pain! I was so fortunate that they were able to sew the intestines back together. I have flare ups all the time. I go on bland diet. I was missed diagnosed for 2 years . The doctors said it was allergies. I was throwing up for 2 years. So I feel your pain. My heating pad, and my 4 legged boys are my best friend. Lot of ❤️

I too, am alone. My little Cairn mix, Lilly is my constant companion. When I was diagnosed with type 2 in 2019, I had just lost my beloved cat, Jesse James. Lilly was sad, as was I. We learned to live without his silliness. We walk short walks twice a day, she's 13 with special needs in health, as do I. We lean on each other, us 2 old gal's lol. I found you when my health was in a rough place, and my mind and soul were feeling dark. You brightened it. You gentle nature and beautiful filming bring lightness to my being. I am so very happy you are better and your little man stayed right with thru it, just like my girl stays with me. Thank you for your lovely thoughtfulness and gracious nature. You inspire me to a quiet strength.

Desi knew! All dogs that are extremely in tune to their owners can tell immediate. The same with humans. We can tell by looking at others appearance and vitality. Dogs can tell the same way thru their senses like smell and your energy output. My pup Remi really nursed me thru covid by lying next to me and also bringing his toys and placing them on the bed just in case I wanted some happiness next to me. Such loves ☺, aren't they. Since I recently found your channel, I have to admit I couldn't wait to watch a new video from you. You are my cup of coffee that gives me my daily dose of energy. I am very familiar with diverticulitis. Three episodes were enough for me and it seems to have gone into remission. Eating mashed potatoes, applesauce, yogurt and my antibiotics is enough, thank you. All the hospital testing and different types of food depleted my energy. Finally graduated to ground beef and rice. As of today, I shy away from small seeds or nuts like poppy seeds, sesame seeds and even some nuts like almonds. Learning that lesson is better then the doctor lecturing me on the types of food to stay away from. One time on a plane home, the rhythmic pain started and I buckled over. I knew exactly what it was and went directly to the hospital for a colonoscopy. If part of the intestines gets a fissure, you can become septic. Never want to take that chance because the pain is intolerable. I am so sorry you had to go thru that. Life is just never static, isn't it! If that ever happens now with my husband not here or for any emergency for that matter, I have no one to care for Remi. I just don't know what I'll do. Since I just found your channel, if I could ask you a few questions about yourself to bring me up to speed on your life. Do you have any children living near you? What is your livelihood, were you ever an interior decorator? Are you retired now or still working? You are so put together on every level. I know that everyone has their crosses to bear but you are making great strides in overcoming what you encounter. Being such a positive person, your energy is passed onto others. I am so thankful for connecting with you. 😊

Susan you asked us to share our stories so here is mine. I, live solo with my sweet kitty Violet. Last year I got so seriously sick with covid I almost didn't make it. I was alone at 3am every night with low low low blood oxygen levels and searing pain in my back from the covid in my lungs. I prayed and prayed and GOD got me through it, but by my side the entire time was my kitty. She never left my side. She knew. Being sick and alone is probably the worst expierence ever for me. My kitty Violet saved my heart and I knew I had to pull out of it for my baby kitty. My body fought the fight of my life. Today I am happy and healthy after loosing almost 40lbs and staying active in walking and golf! I got my life back, and God, and a friend who brought me food everyday, got me through it! Praise the Lord. Thank God I had my kitty Violet right there beside me! ☆♡☆

I am in cape coral where hurricane Ian tore through Florida. I battled that storm for 10 hours trying to save my house. It sounded like a freight train. First it took off part of my roof hitting a window so 150 mph was flying through the house. Took me an hour to pile enough furniture in front of it to stop it. I piled rugs and towels in front of the doors because I could see the waves heading for my house. The garage filled with about 3 feet of water but the barricade in front of the doors held. My house was surrounded by several feet of water. Now I'm working on fixing my gallant house. Love your very special life.

My Sr. year, in high school, I injured my knee, and had to have surgery. I was gone about a week. When I came home, I had my leg propped up on a footstool, Bestafar ( it means Grandpa in Norwegian ), came and walked back and forth on my cast, to check it out. That night, he came right up to my face, and curled up and put his head on my shoulder. It was sooooo sweet, bcz he always slept at the foot of my bed. He really felt like a Grandpa, to us kids, He made his round at night and checked on all of us kids.

Stay away from popcorn , seeds, peanuts, etc. as they aggravate the situation , at least that’s what I found. It can flare up again so be careful! Dogs (and cats) have this sixth sense to know when you are hurting!!! We had a mini dachshund for 12 years and she could always sense the person in the house who needed nurse duty. A good friend of mine died in June. The family had no one to take her precious cats. I lost my boys (2 male cats) the last couple years, so I gladly took Gracie and Ruby ( 2 female cats) . I agree that when you are just not feeling well, a pet can sense this and will not leave your side. Diverticulitis is truly a very dangerous thing. At the same time you must have been ill, I too was in the hospital with diverticulitis. I live alone and when I woke up with severe abdominal pain, like you I struggled with questions of what should I do and who can I call. I eventually called 911. In the emergency room I was diagnosed with ruptured diverticulitis, peritonitis and septic shock. I had emergency surgery at 4AM and now have a colostomy. Between the hospital and rehab, I was in the hospital for almost 3 weeks. It is not easy to live with a colostomy, but it is temporary and that surgery saved my life. Life is fragile but we don't realize that in our day to day routine. I have nothing but gratitude for all the healthcare workers, family and friends who came together to get me through my illness, and I pray that I will never take anyone or anything for granted again.

Your diverticulitis story sounds so similar to my story with it. I’m 63, live alone too, and a couple years ago I didn’t listen to my body, tried to push thru the pain. Well, at 2:00 am I had to leave my sweet dog Chloe, I told her I’d be right back and drove myself to the hospital. When they told me my colon had ruptured and I’d be staying in the hospital at least a week to heal, I started crying. They asked me if I was crying because I had kids at home and I said “ no, my sweet puppy”! Long story short my diverticulitis got so bad I had to have a partial colon removal. I’m so sorry you have experienced this too! I hope you are healing well ❤️

First I am sorry to hear of you recent illness and hospital stay, Susan. I'm happy to hear your doing well now. Pets are such a blessing especially during times of stress. I remember one December back in Y2K I came down with a case of pneumonia. My doctor wanted to hospitalize me. I refused to be admitted to my place I work. Not that the hospital I work @ isn't great (its amazing), I just didn't want to be a burden to my co-workers. So my doctor agreed to allow me to heal @ home under his office care. I had a rough time that holiday season. I barely left my sofa. My amazing kitty Jjaks (who sadly is gone now) who was an oh so handsome gray Oriental Shorthair with emerald green eyes. My sweet kitty never left my side the whole time I was ill. I cannot tell you how much that touched my heart. He was truly a Godsend to me. One in a million. I truly miss him.

It’s been 4 years now (Seems like just few weeks), but I’ve built (w God’s grace) a beautiful home, filled with people I love every week. I’ve learned to self care/love myself after years of neglecting me. This is a lovely channel. PS; also got me a ‘little, bigger than, Desi’. A sweet, sweet rescue. I call her Pearl, cuz she’s my treasure. Thank you for all your encouragement, honesty, and just being real.

@@cherylthepearl4085 her name was between Hazel (Her eye color) or Pearl. But she quickly became a sweet, loving treasure to me. She was rescued out of the slums, discarded & abused. Sometimes I call her Mrs Jefferson or Weezie 😄

Susan, so glad you are feeling better. I am recently widowed after 52 years of marriage. I love decor and to surround myself with things I love and that have meaning to me. Your videos have helped bring me out of this darkness I am in and slowly I am feeling I will be able to carry on and I feel hope waking up in my heart.

I have used Boots #7 "Instant Illusion" primer for about 15 years. It's my favorite way to prime my face before foundation. I've tried primers that were highly rated, and less expensive, but i always come back to Boots #7!! I jump on when I see your video come up. You have the most gentle way of starting your videos with the gorgeous photos! Sincerely, Faith Falcone

I want to thank you for being my You Tube friend. When I am feeling happy, you make me feel happier. If I am feeling down, you raise my spirits and help me realize how lucky I really am. Thank you again. Hope you are feeling better, and please give Dezi a kiss for me. And if he doesn't like all these strange ladies sending him kisses, a nice little pat will do.

In 2021 I downsized. I haven’t missed anything yet. One of my daughters has a black “ fireplace “ like yours. It beautiful and heats the room so good. I love your flannel shirt experiences… I love flannel, so warm and rugged looking. I like to use them as a light jacket. I’m praying you heal soon. This health issue is serious…. Please don’t ignore the symptoms. As a nurse I’ve seen many cases of diverticulosis. My Faith gets me through life challenges. In 1979 after an emergency C-Section, 5 days later I developed an infection in the incision. It was a cold ,snowy December in south Arkansas where everyone and everything came to a standstill. After about 8 days of treatment for the infection the doctor told my husband and me he didn’t expect me to live as I wasn’t improving. He wanted to send me to a hospital in Little Rock. The hospital I was in was in a small town about 100 miles from Little Rock. With the road conditions the ambulances weren’t able to transport me to a larger hospital that could treat me as I needed. The doctor told us we’d have to sign the baby over to someone that could provide her care. A social worker had paperwork my husband and I signed giving our daughter that had just been born to his sister for her family to raise. Our 4 year old was going to be with my parents. My parents weren’t physically able to care for the baby. My husband was a cross country trucker being gone alot and couldn’t care for the children. It was agreed he’d continue to be in the girls lives and help support them. After signing the paperwork I was left alone. I asked God to give me just 18 years to let me see the baby graduate high school and become an adult. I told God I’d serve Him my remaining days. About 8 days later my fever broke, within a few days I was healed. When the baby was 21 days old we were discharged on Christmas Eve 1979. The baby is now 42 years old and a grandmother herself. When she was 2 years old I became a Nurse. I have ministered to hundreds of people since 1983, I’ve served on several Medical Mission trips in the USA and Guatemala. I continue to serve others where needed. My parents and the family that agreed to raise my daughter are all deceased. Every year on my daughter’s birthday I thank the Lord for another year. Prayers are answered when we are obedient to God’s word. I hope this encourages someone.
