Fakes & Frauds ["Scamite"]: Fake Tourmaline

In the series Fakes & Frauds ["Scamite" or "Belazeriet" in Dutch], I discuss in this video an example of #fake #Tourmaline.
I regularly inform you about all kinds of fake and counterfeit minerals or gemstones, or that are offered under a false name: "Scamite" as I call it [or "Belazeriet" in Dutch]. Unfortunately it is becoming more and more common.
In this video an example that this also happens in the world of exclusive minerals.... A high-end piece purchased by a trader over the internet based on a video, as Tourmaline from Malkhan, Siberia, Russia. The video was seen by all kinds of other traders and experts and the piece was thought to be real. Unfortunately, nothing turned out to be further from the truth... Watch the video for the whole story....
Thanks to the anonymous donor for allowing me to inform and warn others this way. Who hasn't paid a learning fee for something that turned out to be a Scamite....
For more information and photos of genuine Tourmaline from Malkhan see the article by Kynicky & Krejsek (Rocks & Minerals, Volume 88, 2013, issue 4): www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/1...
Caveat emptor!
The videos in the Fakes & Frauds [Belazeriet] series are primarily intended to inform mineral enthusiasts. The best protection against "Scamite" is to be well informed yourself!
So: Caveat emptor; buyer, be on your guard. Who are you buying your minerals from? Are they reliable? Do they know what they are talking about? Are you doing your own research?
However, in addition to "duty to investigate" on the part of the buyer, I believe that the seller also has a "duty to inform". Therefore, I hope that sellers will also start using the videos to properly inform their customers.

Disclaimer:
This is a video where I share my knowledge and enthusiasm about stones. This is not a sales video; you can learn something from it and enjoy looking at beautiful stones. Information is based on reliable (scientific) sources, but my preparation and I are not perfect. If you have anything to add I would love to read it in the comments.
