Dude you gotta rinse the gun out with gun wash/ lacquer thinner before using. The factory coats the spray guns in oil and thats what reacted with you clear

It’s not the gun. It’s the surface your going over. Seal it and do it again. You will find a big difference. GTI pro lites like open full fan. 3 open on fluid is ok. This all depends on temp, what temp hardener and reducers. I own a half of dozen of both, fake pro lite and original pro lites. Both shut the same.

I'm amazed by the number of KZread "professional" painters that still don't understand that a spray gun has 2 (two) trigger positions. When you reverse direction you only release the fluid feed (1 trigger stage), not the entire trigger.

honestly, it's not the gun that troubled... both fake and real will give you almost identical result, the only different is the material difference between the real and fake, the fabrication, for example the real one looks clean while the fake one maybe having like some kind of second grade material.. but the way it sprays almost identical.. you cant just make conclusion base on the way you want to use it... i have both fake and real, using it in the same technique, same material same setting, the both have the same output, only materials are different..

I got a fake ProLite also (Lisson branded- I just couldn't stand to have a DeVilbiss branded fake!). It is MARKED "1.3 with a TE20 and also bought an extra set of "1.2 fluid nozzel and a TE110 air cap (which it certainly is NOT even a try at a 110- looks just like the 20). WELL, the cheapie actually sprays decently and with a big even fan, BUT both fluid tips and air caps are the same, AS I did a viscosity type test comparing the time is took to flow 2 ounces (60 cm) of thinner: Both fake nozzels Flowed at the same rate that my REAL ProLite with the 1.4 fluid tip !!! The real ProLite's 1.3 took longer and the real 1.2 took a lot longer to flow out the thinner. SO, the fakes are really 1.4 fluid tips and a rough approximation of a TE20 air caps. And the fluid tips do NOT interchange with the real DeVilbiss. And as SW Customs found out, it IS a lot heavier. My only other question is what air pressure at the gun are you using? I find my guns like around only 20 psi ( 18 to 25 depending on thickness of paint.) Yours looks like you're over 28 psi (2 bar). That will give an uneven pattern. Thanks for your time and effort on the video.

  • @swc-diygarage

Was 20 for base and 30 for clear. The gun used way more air then my others set at the same pressures. After all the hit and miss problems I had with this gun I think it's the TE20 air cap doesn't seal properly. The T110 I got has a different seal in it and fits much tighter.

@@swc-diygarage I see. I used a few guns in the past, original, fakes, cheap ones and the similar situation would appear if I used wrong reducer (I live in FL so 90-100 is a regular situation), not enough reducer, or too high pressure (so it would half-dry before to land on the surface). I bought one today, will repaint a truck next weekend, will see if I will have same problem.

Sorry man, I’m not trying to be disrespectful in any way, But you can’t expect great results, when you aren’t doing things right. First off: you needed to run lacquer through that gun first to clean all the oils & grease from the factory. Second: Gun setup is crucial. Next, You HAVE to hold the gun so it is spraying evenly! I noticed you never quite tilted the gun enough to where it was perpendicular to the substrate. That is exactly the cause of the problems you had!!! A combination of Gun Setup & The fan being extremely bottom heavy, are what most likely caused the striping issue. *Let me be clear* I am not advocating for these knockoff spray guns, BUT.. I have tried a few, and they actually impressed me! I understand you are a DIY Guy, But I’ve been production & custom painting since I started at my Pops body shop when I was a teenager, and have been spraying for over 20 years now, So I know a little about what I’m talking about. Great video though!

@@swc-diygarage That’s cool, But we can all learn from one another man. That’s the mindset I try to keep. I was simply saying what I saw, and I bet I other guys that spray everyday would see the same. Doing auto body is one of the best trades in the world IMO. Those of us that spray everyday have to be open minded, if we want to get better as everything changes. I made it clear that I’m not a fan of the knock-off’s! I was simply saying I have used several and was actually impressed with how they ran. Now, I know there’s many that are crap too! When I watched your video it reminded me of a video I watched a good while ago. Look up the Dura block 007 spray gun review, and there’s a guy that reviewed one in his little shop and at first when he did his paper adjustment, he commented on how heavy the bottom of the fan was, however within just a few minutes he realized it was because the tip wasn’t perpendicular, which caused it. Watch that, and you will see what Im saying. I didn’t say that to beat you up, I simply said it because it’s true. If you aren’t willing to be open minded, It’s hard to improve man. Being a body man, doesn’t make everyone a great painter. Some can & some can’t. I have several cousins that I taught growing up, and most all of them are great body techs, But a few of them can’t paint for sh*t. 😂, Hope that helps man. Take care
