Many comments here already said it's called a 'paltik', usually made in Danao, Cebu, Philippines, so I'll just add a fun fact. 1.) The term 'paltik' has been integrated into everyday speech as a common word in the different languages in the Visayas region, where Danao is easily accessible, as being "poorly made", this pertains from the fact that paltik guns have little to no quality control and the reliability vary from gunsmith to gunsmith and the type of steel used. 2.) During WW2, Danao residents started making guns for the local resistance forces against the Japanese when the Americans withdrew from the Philippines to Indonesia, and the Philippine soldiers and local militia had hold their own and needed a supply of weapons and ammo. The problem is that there has been a lack of will to fully industrialize the Philippines and remains an dominantly agricultural country, with the lack of industrialization, highly skilled smiths like the gun makers in Danao continue to have their skills under-utilized and have to resort to just continuing their backyard business to be able to feed their family.

I work with Philippinos in Manila. My company has an office with 100 engineers. They are extremely reliable, detail oriented engineers. You ask for something, they take every word in your email practically, and they do exactly what you said, word for word. I have met a few, and they are all great people with deep Catholic faith. Honorable people.

Sometime during the 1980s, These underground Filipino gunmakers were at one time recruited by the Japanese Mafia, The Yakuza, and brought to Japan to make guns for their use. The move solved the Yakuza's problem of smuggling the guns out from the Philippines and bringing them in to Japan. Also, these Filipino made guns in Japan greatly improved due to modern machineries provided by the Yakuza for gunmaking.

They dont do this in jungle huts anymore... theyve gone underground literally... once a gun is made they sell it in pesos... the person who bought it will do the chemical process for rust proofing... then sells is twice initial value to a person who brings it STATE-SIDE and sold in dollars. cosmetics may be crude but performance and durability is at par with the original.

Sam Colt had been dead nearly half a century when the genius who was John Moses Browning blessed the U.S. military with his iconic design, chambered in the also iconic .45 Auto. Colt was famous for black powder guns. Any Colt after 1862 was someone else's. So really, when it comes down to it, the 1911 in this video isn't a clone at all, but a forgery. It could have just as well been a Springfield forgery or an ATI forgery or a Tisas forgery. It's still true to the Browning design, although in the A1 version that appeared in 1924 while JMB was still alive and kicking.

Jay Dee but the original maker was Colt, JMB designed it and had them produce it, he even went down to personally supervise the production, so Technically speaking all the other manufactures are clones

i don't care what anyone says, one was made in a factory lathe and milling machine, the other made in a grass hut with a vise and metal file. damn fine workmanship for a grass hut.

riphaven All of my Paltik pistol have either Colt or S&W markings. Only one of them sacred me, the rest all function 100% of the time. Can’t get them out of the PI, but that is okay since I like it that way.

We call that as a Class "B" 1911 made in Danao City , Cebu, Philippines just about 1980's, as the earlier homemade 1911 were shoddily made, but the Class "A" type now are almost perfect copies that you can interchange parts with a real 1911. BTW, 2 known gun manufacturers, I won't specify who, did something amusing that about a large group of the local homemade gunsmiths were employed in their factories as they have been making these illegal copies all their lives, nothing beats experienced gunsmiths.

Im filipino and i used to have one of those. Its not made after ww2, its more recent than that (maybe starting from the 80s?). Only thugs, poor people and communist rebels here use those 1911s. Part of our colonial mentality gun culture here is to buy norinco or RIA and have it Colt or para odnance marks etched on them

LOL, interesting. So the Communists prefer the home-made 1911s rebranded as a capitalist Colt, but not the actual Communist-made Norinco? I had a Norinco once way back in the mid-2000s. It was a spontaneous purchase that I came to deeply regret. In my defense I was still new to firearms at the time. It was a horrible garage-built monstrosity that was just awful in every way. I paid way too much for it, and sold it at a massive loss. Lesson learned.....now I stick to either American-made 1911s, or Turkish-made 1911s. I'm contemplating my first one now in fact....either a limited-edition Colt, a mil-spec Colt, or a TISAS 1911 Government model. $1,400, $900, and about $340 respectively.

A little history for people. This may or may not be a Colt. I say this because Colt outsourced some of their manufacturing of 1911's to the Philippines to keep up with production some are unaware of this. The Philippines has been making 1911's since World War II because they were contracted by Colt to make them, and so just because it was made in the Philippines does not mean it is not an actual Colt 1911 depending upon what year it was made.

@@hamishdow2188 my first job is as machinist in Makati, Philippines. The guy next to my station got fired for building a 1911 on company time. And I did not even noticed it 10 feet away. He was busted because the union bitched that he was not paid for timed in early.

for what they sell for in the Philippines, a guy could flip these for a nice profit if he could get a steady supply. A pretty good reminder that gun control is pointless, when a guy sitting in the jungle with hand tools can turn these out.

For what its worth, they are not in the jungle, they have a well set up gun manufacturing factory in Danau , because i have been there within the last 10years where i have watched these guys building various weapons including a well made sub machine gun. I purchased a replica 1911 Colt as shown in the video which i owned for several years, and was a damned good sidearm, well made, never jammed, reliable. Best sidearm ever made. I'm a former infantry soldier from New Zealand. Used to piss me off when know alls, who knew nothing, called it a fake. The fake colt is awesome, hand made, I would love to have that gun.

Part of Ph history, yeah interesting. RIA/Armscor PH makes M1911Colt clones closer to the original nowadays. Wish I could get one sooner.

Glad they did . RIA makes a decent 1911 at a fair price. My neighbor who’s retired police officer has one for edc he has a sig 1911 also but carries the Rock

So that's a hand made and fitted to the frame. Some would call it a custom made 1911 (not mass produce) i would love to see the accuracy / grouping on this gun.

The ingenuity of the people that hand make these is amazing. I bet they even made the crude tooling used in the manufacture. I would say though, that any gun barrel that's soft enough to be worked by hand, probably shouldnt be fired but is still a very collectable piece.

Too many backyard gun manufactures in the Philippines they are making fully auto m16 from an engine block.

One thing you didn't mention. The frame is marked to look like a WW2 military Colt, but the markings on the slide are for a commercial Colt sold to civilians.

That's a common paltik theme. Most of them have 50s slide markigns paired with WWII ANAD rebuild markings. Trying mimick some of the early 1950s Colt Govt. Mod replacment sldies on WWII frames.

I have sold thousand of 1911 clones to security agensies in the philippines. Most of them are piece of junk like a decorative gun on a holster of a security guard. But Danao has some very good replica like the mac 11 machine pistols and the kg 9 MP.

here in CEBU CITY an hour away from Danao City Philippines you can get one of those good looking Copy pistol in the street for only about 50/100 dollars up to 250 dollars Class A . Class A meaning a good quality iron and good quality blue finishes

I've seen all kinds of screws used to replace factory screws that have been lost or stripped out.

To be honest, 1911 colt 45's are extremely common here in The Philippines,almost everyone here has a 1911 and they're probably all ghost guns. My dad has multiple handguns, my uncle (mom side) has multiple firearms, my mom's friends has firearms, my dad's friends has guns. They're all too goddamn common here so nobody wouldn't really fuck around here cause you never know if they have a gun or not. In fact, it's a common thought here to assume that the person you're annoying probably has a gun and they mostly do so it isn't wise to fuck around.

thing is that there were several government contacts to manufacture the .45 ACP. Colt, Singer, Ithaca, Remington Rand...but the acid test was all those pistols were disassembled and all the parts were mixed together in a box and reassembled. All pistols fired using the mixed parts.

I was at a gun show years back, like 1996. This dude was selling Llama's lowers with Colt Gold Cup slides AS a Gold Cup. The uninformed gobbled up the mis matched guns at 750 each... what was the easiest part to tell is Colt wasn't selling any firearms with parkerised finishes at the time. These were presented to the public as new.

Sir's there are legitimate gun makers here in the Philippines (patented) and there are plenty illegal gun makers...the illegal ones had cut-outs to traced and the finished product looks good..its the inner parts that are not reliable like springs, firing pin will degrade easily that is why they are recommended to replace it with original parts (branded)... but please take note these guns operate smoothly with the main function TO KILL...1. after the hit discard the gun...and retrieve the victims original (BRANDED) firearm. OR 2. for self defense at your residence....IF OUR COUNTRY HAD LEGITIMIZED..WE COULD HAVE ONE OF THE BEST UNITS AS WE HAVE ABLE CRAFTSMEN.

Yup! It SHOULD say "COLT'S" in script (with the Pony) NOT "Colt" on it! My Pre-1956 Colt's .38 Super Combat Commander Special (think Gold Cup) is plainly rolled "Colt's Automatic Pistol Model of 1911A Caliber Colt's .38 Super Auto". It is Class Three engraved by Grebbe of Colt's Custom Shop and has an adjustable trigger and target sights. I recently sold a .32 Long Colt Lady Colt's 5 3/8" Garter Pistol from about 1880. A lovely 5-shot Police Positive Action Revolver Grade SEVEN engraved that belonged to my neighbor across the street. She was profoundly deaf and a 17-year-old bride when she and her husband moved to wild-and-wooly Tulsey-Towne before statehood in about 1880. He got it for her and she wore it in the garter holster on her right leg under her skirts. I had it re-blued by Colt's Custom Shop a Decade ago, and sold it to a lady from Nome for nearly 6 figures. Unquestionably, the most accurate revolver I've ever shot-probably the most accurate pistol I've ever shot, including my Thompson Contender Super 14.

I have an original colt 1911 owned by my grandfather because he was a former guerrilla during World war 2 and the hand grip is made of deer horn

Im living in the phil. And i owned one of this, it fire neat, it never jammed, and accurate like hell, but it's depends on the gun you buy if it well made or not.

..years back, the Japanese crime organization, the Yakuza were the main buyers of these " backyard" PHILIPPINE made guns. When things began too tight for the Yakuza to bring the guns to Japan, they brought the Philippine gun makers to Japan instead and gave them very good machineries and lucrative " salaries".. Now, these backyard gun makers have adopted machine technology they learned in Japan.

The machine work is too crude to be a US factory made frame. And there are differences that he didn't point out in the video.

Very interesting, I would like to purchase one to compare it to mine and see all the difference between them.

I would have to have both side by side to catch the font problem. The slide serrations are an obvious if your looking for that. Running the serial number might give it away unless its a legitimate number from a real colt

The serrated part is a signature use to locate the backyad gunsmith and not intended for the design..only the barel machined and the rest part is all handmade by file..from phillipines here

Pretty cool. I visited a few Khyber Pass "factories" in the late 90's and it was fascinating. Never have been to the philippine "factories" but I would love to check them out sometime.

my grandpa has this kind of 1911 and only works with hand mags the mag that came from the legit gun store doesn't fit I thought the one that I bought from the gun store was fake I just realized the gun itself were fake though it fires no problem! until now my uncle owns it and I try to buy it from him, he said it's a collection. OH, my Geessh they collecting counterfeit...

The frame lines are crude and the slide has ball cuts which is only for M1911.

That Colt copy isn't finished off nearly as well as a Rock Island!! I will say, I've had many 1911s cross my bench with Essex frames and a pre-WWII Colt slide that are labeled US ARMY on the slide. Some of those look like they were machined with a chisel!

I’ve had a couple of genuine Colt 1911’s in the past… Now i shoot an ATI FX model 1911 Commander, & I bought it outright, out-the-door from a gun store for $325 total cost. (70 series type). Made in the Philippines. I’ve shot several boxes of ammunition with it. It cycles ANY ammunition, even steel case Russian ammo, or hollow points, or flat nose. It’s more accurate than my Colt’s were, & they wouldn’t cycle just any ammunition… Trenendously recommend, LOL

I don't why but that 1911 copy looks really big to me.

That copy is pretty impressive

Would have been better if you had compared it to a real Colt instead of a Remington. Nothing wrong with the Rand, just not the gun the fake was trying to be.

The 1911 moniker refers to the patten of the weapon, not the identity of the producer. It is not an authentic Colt, but it is a 1911 pattern pistol.

About a year or maybe two years ago a group of people got arrested for manufacturing firearms. Some of them were on layoff from RIA. It was believed that they smuggled out some of the larger unfinished parts and completed them in their homes. It's hard to get any components of guns or ammunition there. In fact a permit to own or carry a firearm is next to impossible for Filipinos. So some find it easier to risk prison. I've seen a number of the weapons they've finished by hand. Sometimes the work is truly beautiful and sometimes it's horrible. I've seen engraved firearms that rival old style high end. Phillipines copies were copied from the ones found after the American Philippines war still damn good hand made and fitted by generations of craftsmanship passed down

If real handmade, this would be amazing!

BTW for your info that black grip is made of battery case. Now adays it more modern kind of manufacturing for then,they buy the reciever 70 % complete and also the slide,do some milling manufacture the small parts and its done. Then they bring the almost finish product into a marking facility,they mark ot colt,para ordnance etc,bring it again to a shop to have finish and its done. They sell the 1911 to the stockholders for 6000 php the stock holders sell it to the runners for 7500 php and the runners sell it to gun runners for 13000 to 14000 php and the final gun runners sell at around 15000 to 18000 php. Thats how the trail works hahahaha

Do you already see the documentary about ghost guns in Philippines? Is awesome those people can make copy whit tools of the stone age, I was amazed whit there skills!

It also doesn't have the loop/hanger on the butt where the magazine goes in.

Thats some good info, if I was going to buy a 1911 I would want it to be an actual Colt.

I would not mind owning one. If I knew it was a copy and paid a fair price for a copy.

The Japanese Mafia, The Yakuza, did just that during the 1980s! Brought These Filipino gunsmith to Japan..paid them More than handsome salaries, gave them modern tools to make firearms exclusively for the Yakuza. Upon these Filipino gunmakers' return to the Philippines, they have greatly improved Their trade, with some of them being hired by Philippine legitimate firearms factories.

Plot twist: it's a legit Colt 1911 but their quality has gone down the drain

That gun has a very good history. it will be asome to have one of those in any collection although is not a real colt 1911.

Have you ever shot that ghost 1911? Did it work or jam?

Serrations? Don't you mean texturing (as opposed to stippling) on the front and rear of the grip and back end of the slide?

if it has that font of colt at the side does that mean it's fake already?

Couple of points: 1) No one should be copying another manufacturer's product and passing it off as authentic, i.e., unless you are Colt Arms, you can't call what you manufacture, a "Colt". 2) How well does this Philippino-made model M1911A1 shoot? Might shoot pretty well; might be a good economical handgun to own.

You did not take it apart and look at the riflings inside the barrel. If you have an old Thompson sub-machine gun barrel, the gunsmiths will cut and make two .45 pistols, one for them on for you, at no charge.

so, its possible these 2 guns differ 30 to 40 years in age? not really something to compare then...

Colts roll markings have always been a little inconsistent but this was obviously punched.

A factory before in Cebu Philippines that supplied unmarked firearm parts for US brands as outsource, produce the best copies (discretely & illegally) They use photo chemical etching for markings, they told me if markings is very perfect & plain it's a copy. Because original roll markings embossed the markings surface & is normally uneven. (Their parts are interchangeable with OEM 1911). Most backyard gun makers claim their gun came from that factory because it's the most sought after.

Quinrton how the heck are you gonna get a bunch of pistols here from the philippine. they cost $349-$400+here now..

The whole frame is off.

I saw a fake “Singer” 1911A1 for sale on GunBroker that was must better that this copy, but it should cause us to avoid any deals that seem too good to be true. There is a documentary on KZread showing guys producing semi auto pistols in the jungle with nothing more than a vice and some files. Amazing

My guess is the fake “Colt” 1911 is worth more than the original.

I'm curious about serial numbers on the copy. No doubt you can contact Colt to find out, correct?

The serial number falls into the Colt allotment from 1942. Does that mean there are two pistols with this SN?

Well at least two, maybe more all depends on how many they made in the PI with that serial number
