These came in the Kraft cardboard box with the pistol and magazine(s) in wrapping paper. WWII guns came with a knurled short trigger, arched knurled mainspring housing and lanyard loop. They all had the a1 finger cuts in the receiver. Early guns had checkered wood grips. By 1943 plastic grips were standard.

Very nice. I have several of the 1991-A1 models that I bought when they originally came out. I don't shoot them as I just wanted to have some Colts in my collection. I have other 1911's that I shoot. I also find that Colt's are way out of the price range that I like and I don't buy them anymore (plus they only come with one mag). Keeping it all original is the great. I do the same thing. Everything that comes with the gun, stays with the gun. I alos have a WWII 1911... Remington Rand that has all matching parts.

I have WMK2365,. It's my favorite pistol I own! The only thing I changed was the grips, actually found a original mint colt bakelite grips from ww2 and put them on! If you like the old war horses and can't afford today's prices on them this is a good reissue! I have an original mint checkered trigger I plan on installing to make it more authentic!!!

That is a great question! This particular model run follows the original M1911A1 markings. Why patent numbers are included on this firearm (and many, many others) I'm not actually sure. My only guess is that it serves to warn people trying to copy them that certain parts and features have been patented and protected. That's my best guess but maybe someone who sees this and knows for sure will comment. Thanks for watching!

I picked up a series 70 last year from the seventies. Someone had it parkerized. It has that greenish WW2 look and a bit worn looking. I put some original Colt M1911A1 plastic grips on it. It looks pretty cool. I can always change out some parts and have the slide laser engraved like an original too, but even as it is now, I really like it. I gave it to my dad a few months before he died. He carried one in the British SAS WW2, in the USMC at the end of the war and in the Dutch Royal Marines in Java and New Guinea. Now, one of my sons will inherit his Colt 1903, 32acp, which he carried in the service, the other will inherit the 1911 that we can also say he owned. You can see a documentary on him. KZread Arie Noot MyLastWord.

There are lots of 1911A1 versions out there. I think Springfield has a good repro. There are probably some aftermarket beavertail extensions for the A1...I've just not looked into it. I think most who get the 1911A1 want to keep the same look and feel of the WWII era without an extension. The Colt Series 70 has a similar look and feel and may have just a bit more length on the beavertail. Pricey, but it's a Colt.

If I ever get a Colt Goverment 1911 I would leave it as is because we'll it's a Colt and it's the real deal. On my Springfield Armory 1911 A1 Mil Spec well that's another story. In my oppinion SpringField Armory did a crappy job on the replica World War II plus the trigger suck so I did some modifications on it putting a Wilson Combat Beaver Tail and Hammer and a Kilomous Custom Trigger. With the modifications it shot better. Nice Colt you have it looks awsome.

My O1911A1 is from the first run. The first run did not have the United States Property just above the right grip panel. The rollmark on the slide is correct to the original but not as deeply rolled as the original. The rollmark on the right side of the frame has the M1911A1 US Army a little further back and a slightly different font and not as deep. The reissue is patterned after a 1942 A1. The slide stop, thumb safety, trigger, hammer and MSH are all supposed to be checkered. The trigger is not and the MSH is serrated. The transition to all serrated parts occurred towards the middle or end of 1945 when the war ended and all contracts were cancelled. The hammer is more in line with the pre-A1 model. Colt states this reissue is a faithful reproduction and not an exact copy. Colt collectors were quick to complain to Colt that they didn't want any reissue to affect the value of original Colt manufactured between 1911 and 1945.

  • @bccasu1

This one definitely gets you if you aren't careful (sometimes even when you are). The beavertail doesn't really cover the entire width of the hammer. It'd be interesting to see the auto ordinance beavertail and compare.

I own the Auto ORDNANCE 1911A1 COLT CLONE, my beaver tail looks exactly like this one though I have never had it pinch me when shooting? I have medium to big size hands I guess?? My Taurus 1911 has the nice, target shooting beaver tail, I shoot both pretty good, the AO has just enough beaver tail, just EXACTLY like the old mil spec 1911's do.

Was hoping you would field strip it, so we could see if it is a Pre 70 series/actual G. I. or if it has a series 80 style firepin safety. The Colt ww1 reproduction is a pre 70 no firing pin safety, like the original. The only thing keeping the Auto Ordnance from being more like the orig. ww2 is the firing pin safety, and not being a short checked trigger and checkered mainspring housing.

It's a good gun, I've upgraded to a real ww2 checkered trigger and have actual large ring mint colt grips from ww2 on mine!! It was my first 1911 and of course she will never be for sale! I also had an early ww1 repo and never put a bullet in the magazine ! Sold it to a friend yrs ago! Everything I see him he says he hasn't ever shot it and asks if I want to buy it back! I haven't said yes yet! I have a government SS 38 super also!!

Nothing wrong with beaver tail grip safeties, but I've fired thousands of rounds through 1911's with the standard grip safety and standard Government hammer, and I have never been hammer bitten by one of them. My Browning Hi-Power does bite a little, because of the short tang.

Definitely not upset. I welcome all genuine comments and discussions on the channel =) Hickok's gun is the WWI version. Colt came out with remakes of both the WWI and the WWII A1 versions. This one is the WWII A1 version. There's a really good article at w w w .m1911.org/prodte28.htm that discusses the small differences between the original Colt A1s and this Colt A1 reissue like the hammer spur you pointed out. Definitely a good eye!

And even at that price that pistol is a nail driver and I’m deadly accurate out to 60 yards with it. My buddy with a colt gold cup let me shoot his….. I gotta have one.

Please don't be upset, but the hammer and beaver tail you have on your pistol are from the WWl. The WWll version have a more straight and up hammer spur and a just a little longer beaver tail. Maybe they mixed by lapse, I don't know, these two pieces on your gun. Compare it with a regular Colt 1911A1 and you will see. For instance check the "1911 WWll Colt close-up" out, from Hickok45's channel.
