One thing I will add, that, installing heat wrap onto header tubes voids any warranty. It does not allow the metal to 'breathe' and thus overheats it, that is likely what caused the failure in the weld joint. Ask any header manufacturer and they all will agree on this.

Sure does, still occurs to people not wrapped. The welds are weak/thin from BBK’s China manufacturing processing and they can’t handle engine/exhaust loads.

My headers failed after 1 year and I didn’t have that, these are trash

I didn’t have any issues installing bell shorty tuned length header in my 18’ ram 1500 had a broken bolt which caused them to leak on passenger side so I loosened blots, drilled an 1/8 bit about 1/4 inch deep into the broken stud, then took a T20 start bit with a 1/4 extension hammered it into my hole then backed it out with a 1/4 in socket. You should spary with corrosion x and let sit for 10min before you start this process of removing broken stud

Yes but only by 25%. I am currently running 33/12.5/20 and plan on bumping up to 35's. Need more response to turn tires that are over 100 lbs each.

I already had the tune when i installed the headers. I have thought about getying a custom tune from Jay Greene.

i have a 2011 ram express, been running the bbk shorty ceramics on it for over 5 years no issues. not wrapped-they are ceramic coated stainless.

The stainless version may last a little longer if you aren’t towing or going wide open throttle daily.

Finishing up mine today on my 2008 ram, having issues on the right(passenger side) center bottom bolt, motor mount is in the way. But going to try what you stated (swivels and Extention) thanks

For tightening a box flex-end ratcheting wrench will save lots of time and get just about anywhere. If you can’t get the bolt in and started, might need to take the header back out and cut the flange away(slot)so you can put the bolt in first and slide the flange onto it. Good luck!

i bought a set of ebay shorty headers for my 2016 ram R/T and they lasted about a year before they cracked in the collector weld also. im in the process of doing a cam swap now so iv got them out. i think im going to try to weld up the crack and see how long it lasts.

They’ll get brittle around the new weld and eventually fail again if you’re stressing the engine mount, I’d recommend having a set of Long-tubes ready to help the cam breathe.

@@GarcBomber I know and I know long tubes would probably be worth 30hp with the cam and head work that I’m doing but I need to recover emotionally from spending all this money. Maybe within 6 months I’ll be in a better money spending mood and will buy a set lol

How hard is the dipstick issue? Bend and relocate bolt?

Leave the lower bolt into the block alone. I ended up bending around the primaries gently with enough clearance so you don’t trigger the knock sensor. Mount the upper bracket to the top left bolt with a spacer. Don’t buy the mild steel chromed BBKs, they will fail

A little late but I also have these bbk when your accelerating around 1.5-2 k do you here like. A chop like sound .

Could be hearing the exhaust gasses through the thinner tubing walls compared to the stock cast iron log manifolds

Go long-tubes for scavenging torque, the only shorty for trucks that will gain power(top end) with quality construction are Kooks and they are $$$.

@@johnnybailey4713 most shorty header designs increase primary flow but then restrict at the collector in comparison to the stock cast iron manifold which are 2.5". BBK and JBA are 2.25" If you're just looking for an affordable shorty to eliminate broken bolts, check out the PowerGo motorsports shorty as they are robust 304SS.

@@GarcBomber shorty header perform and low to mid range RPM long tube headers perform at mid to high RPM if you are looking for torque you have to use shorty long tube headers kill you low to midrange torque

My BBK shorty headers cracked on a runner before the collector. Didn't have them for two weeks. Walls are too thin on the headers. Absolute junk.

In my next video you’ll see the collector weld failed after only 9 months. No warranty accepted unless they were sent back and I cut them off. I ported mine, but from BBK they lose performance because the collector is restricted to 2-1/4” verses OEM 2-1/2” diameter. Even the stainless steel coated version are failing on the forums. Stay away
