Facing the Fear of Failure | MMXXIV Chapter 1 | Sony a6700

Fear and self-doubt run deep in every dream I've ever tried to chase. From writing, to creating art, to making music, I've always let that fear and hesitation drag them all down. So when I discovered my love for filmmaking back in 2018, those doubts only grew and grew.
Cancelled projects, ideas thrown out the window, videos that are nearly done but I end up not finishing anyway, all because of one question.
"What if it's not good enough?"
And so going into the new year, I knew that I wanted to get out of that rut that I'd put myself in and finally break away from that question, to learn to fully trust myself and face my fear of failure.
This is "MMXXIV," a new series I'm starting with the goal of facing my fears and my self-doubt, by capturing the glimpses and moments of my life for every single day throughout the year, and compile them all into a chapter for each month. I'm honestly terrified, and even as I sit here writing this description with the video already uploaded and processed, I'm still asking myself the question.
But the first step on every journey is to take that first step, and this is mine.

So glad the algorithm decided I should see this. This was super impressive and I only hope I can put my a6700 to good use the way you have here! In the sequence at 1:34 (January 13th), what sort of processing are you doing to the image? It almost looks like the blurred parts of the background are less saturated than the subjects in the foreground. It may just be the grade or the way you've composed the shots, but it's very interesting!

You’re very kind, thank you so much! 😄🙏🏼 For that shot at 1:34 specifically, I originally had that background very overexposed and tried bringing it back down in post. Actually, come to think of it now, I feel I should’ve compensated for the shade instead of the bright background and go from there haha 😅 That said, the way I edited it was by lowering the exposure, lifting the shadows, and upping the contrast a lot. I also upped the saturation for this specific clip, so I think the effect on the background comes from these. I’m curious to know what you think!

Hey, thank you so much for your kind words, that really means a lot to me and I appreciate your support! 🙇♂️😄🤜🏼🤛🏼 You’re spot on there. There’s still a really reaaaally long path to go through, and it’s in the journey where the exciting (and honestly scary) part is. Like you said: gratefulness and patience 🙏🏼 As for the lenses, I used the 18-135mm Sony kit lens for the first few days in the vid but 95% of it and moving forward, it’s the Sigma 18-35mm 😃

@@AlexOcampoFilms nice, sigma lenses are great. You should try some prime lenses though! I got the 16mm and it looks amazing

@@watseraandehand That’s a good shout! The 18-35mm has been my go-to for the last couple of years, but I hear you on the primes. Lately I’ve been eyeing a few + telephotos as well just to cover everything. Maybe a 50 or 85mm and then the 70-200mm, all Sigma still! Haha it’s safe to say they’ve got a hold on me already 😂😭

@@AlexOcampoFilms Looking forward to your next video. I was looking into getting the A6700 as well, stuck between the A6700 and A7Cii. Did you face any overheating by the way with the camera there in Philippines?

@@DarylYquin Yep, it’s overheated on me twice now, and I’ve had this camera since the new year. One of those times caused the camera to have to be shut down for a while, while the other was just an icon on screen but I could still shoot. It shouldn’t be a problem if you’re recording in short bursts of like 10s to a minute - which I usually do with shooting run ‘n gun - but when it’s continuous, it’s bound to overheat. Other than that, it’s a fantastic camera 😄

@@AlexOcampoFilms Ohhh mmm, well I've got some shoots where its a podcast, so it will mostly be indoors, BUT, I did hear about overheating even indoors. Did yours overheat even after the latest firmware update..? Right now I've only got the A6400, but it hasn't ever overheated so far. Even if i shoot 25 to 30 mins straight. Do you think I should still plan for the A6700?
