F1's NEW points system: Winners and Losers from the proposed changes

Спорт

Should zero points remain an option in Formula 1? Although the FIA was initially interested in expanding the current points system to offer something to drivers finishing as low as 12th, it's believed they may go further - even awarding points to ALL finishers.

They would need to have a retirement rule or you'll have it be like nascar and cars just running to try to get ahead of the next car x laps down..

My thoughts- points down to 20th, regardless of how many teams enter. Raise the current points for the top 10 by 10 each, then everyone from 11-20 gets 10-1 points, respectively.

If they would just have a reverse grid in points for the sprints. You give the back half the ability to “race” for good points.

I can’t get behind reverse grids

Points down to 20th means more money from ALL drivers to the FIA

I can't see any reason to change from the current point system. They already keep track of finishing positions and order the teams accordingly for end of year prize money, etc... Expanding the points won't actually change anything.

Teams that regularly do better than others would sit higher on points instead of sitting closer to/level with others on super low number of points. Also more to race for when teams are running out of the points

From 1950 to 1959, the top five finishers of each race plus the fastest lap setter tallied points. OK let's go back to it then. If we whine that they shouldn't get points after 10 then lets to back to the beginning. Back to true F1

I never understood why it has to be no differens if you finish in a 11'th or a 18'th place. What's the point of trying. I will love it, if there was point to the first 18 finishes. It would be more fun to watch, and the teams would try to get one place forward, if they have a chance. And about DRS. Get rit of it, and let the drivers defend there position. It would give some interesting races. A race is about 2 things. Overtaking and defending. Let the drivers figure out, who is the best at what.

Yeah, i’m sure competitive drivers and teams always want every position they can get, but points is a marker for viewers who might tune in and out throughout a season (which is more likely with over 20 races) as to how the teams are doing

EHH Honestly I feel F1 would benifit more from 2-3 more teams then I could see expanding the points to include maybe top 12-14

If you can’t finish in the top 8 (or ten) you don’t deserve points. It’s rewarding just being there! You don’t deserve point for just turning up!

Just a PR move to add made up drama. The stats have always kept the finish positions for ranking.

Sure, but one lucky 10th place when you normally finish 15th shouldn't outweigh 7 11th place finishes on merit.

I was going to say the same thing. I guess the counter argument would be that it can add random drama if this scenario happens. I bit like how one soccer/football team can dominate play but a lucky last minute goal for the opposition can swing things around. I’m not saying i want that, but can see the argument

@@superlicensef1 I also think you shouldn't score points unless you're classified as finishing the race, and if you retire before the checkered flag, it must be a mechanical failure, not a wreck or voluntary retirement to preserve the car.

Apparently you DO get points if you are in the top 10 even when dnf, IF (big IF) you have completed atleast 90% of the race distance. So yeah, maybe this should be changed when all 20 drivers get points. If we go only up to 15th though, idk it could stay that way.
