Alain Prost, is a French former racing driver. From 1987 until 2001 Prost held the record for most Grand Prix victories. Schumacher surpassed Prost's total of 51 victories at the 2001 Belgian Grand Prix.
Prost discovered karting at the age of 14 during a family holiday. He progressed through motor sport's junior ranks, winning the French and European Formula Three championships, before joining the McLaren Formula One team in 1980 at the age of 24. He finished in the points on his Formula One début at the San Martin Autodrome in Buenos Aires, Argentina (where he took his first podium a year later) and took his first race victory at his home Grand Prix in France a year later, driving for the factory Renault team.
During the 1980s and early 1990s, Prost formed a fierce rivalry mainly with Ayrton Senna, but also Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell. In 1986, at the last race of the season, he beat Mansell and Piquet of Williams to the title after Mansell retired late on in the race, and Piquet was pulled in for a late precautionary pit stop. Senna joined Prost at McLaren in 1988 and the two had a series of controversial clashes, including a collision at the 1989 Japanese Grand Prix that gave Prost his third Drivers' Championship. A year later at the same venue they collided again, but this time Prost, driving for Ferrari, lost out. Before the end of a winless 1991 season Prost was fired by Ferrari for his public criticism of the team. After a sabbatical in 1992, Prost joined the Williams team, prompting reigning drivers' champion Mansell to leave for CART. With a competitive car, Prost won the 1993 championship and retired from Formula One driving at the end of the year.
Prost employed a smooth, relaxed style behind the wheel, deliberately modeling himself on personal heroes like Jackie Stewart and Jim Clark. He was nicknamed "The Professor" for his intellectual approach to competition. Though it was not a name he particularly cared for, he would admit later that it was an appropriate summation of his approach to his racing. Skilled at setting up his car for race conditions, Prost would often conserve his brakes and tyres early in a race, leaving them fresher for a challenge at the end.

Prost was the only one capable of beating Senna. Senna made Prost better, pushed him till his best. And vice versa. Two monsters. True drivers!!!

Same level. In similar conditions i would like to see prost, hamilton, senna, schumacher, fangio, niki lauda just for fun 😂😂
The most astonishing statistic about Alain Prost's career in F1 was that he experienced 41 mechanical DNFs while his teammates had 73. The statistical likelihood that this was down to chance, is 1/2000. In other words, Prost due to his smoothness as a driver managed to run two entire extra seasons compared to what just about any other driver could/would manage.
The best of all times in F1 for me.

Alain Prost ! One of the Greatest Drivers of Formula 1.. "Mr.Professor" was so accurate in his calculations..He was the winning machine of his time and the only one you could win Ayrton Senna.Great respect for him from Greece !

Because death is more glorified than life, that's why. Senna himself would admit he became a more complete driver because of Prost.

o Prost em 1986 venceu com 1 carro bem pior que as willians keke rosberg campeão do mundo e companheiro dele fez 22 pontos ele +70 ele pode ter tido sorte em algns momentos da temporada mas a maioria dos pilotos que não ganharam o campeonato de construtores tiveram sorte em algm momento

@@alejandrozuniga1459 amigo, entiendo que Senna fue un piloto más carismático velocisimo en la lluvia y en clasificación, pero las estadísticas dicen que Prost fue más grande en los resultados y consiguió todos esos números a pesar de ser compañero de Lauda, Rosberg, Mansell. Aparte debemos recordar que Senna ganó el mundial de 1988 con menos puntos, menos podios y menos vueltas rápidas porque fue favorecido por la regla de los 11 resultados (Prost descartó 18pts y Senna 4pts). Y en el 89 tenia que ganar las dos últimas carreras para llegar a los 11 resultados, pero chocó en Suzuka con Prost y volvió a chocar en Adelaida con Brundle, así que tampoco le hubiera alcanzado matemáticamente. Si se hubiesen sacado tantas ventajas no habrían definido dos campeonatos chocandose entre sí, llegaron a ese extremo porque no tenían otra forma de superarse.

Prost could set up a car-never stretched in his limits like no other driver.... like Senna could drive fast for 1 lap like no other. 2 seasons together, Prost always outscored Senna on points: more reliable, seeing the whole picture, not a hit or miss...
