    Motorsport Fan 009 also the walls and barriers were slowing the drivers down back then, now the drivers don’t have to be as cautious and driver as slow in certain corners.

    @@Fujibayashi50 with tires that have more grip you can increase the dowforce, dear If you see the new Cars has more grip in the slow corners, when the downforce Is not so heavy. The modern elettronic traction control Is too very important in this case

    @@federicor.4813 Still, you need to keep in mind that in monaco you need to have a car as light as possible and the key is an acceleration out of the corner. Which 2002 cars had advantage in.

    Exit of the swimming pool and la rascasse were both reworked and the later opened up after 2002 maybe 2003 can’t remember for certain

    La rascasse was early 2000’s for sure. The swimming pool chicane has changed a few times since Montoya clouted it in 2001.

    Monaco looks a fair bit easier nowadays. Smoother tarmac, a number of corners have been opened up, cars with more downforce and generally more grip etc.

    Not a fair comparison seeing as the track was slower in 2002- rascasse and the second swimming pool chicane were tighter and slower

    Would the grooved tires be a factor in the slower speed of the 2002 car? But the again the new cars are known to be much bigger and heavier. So it is likely a fair comparison?

    Not really, no. Full slicks might gain the 2002 car a second. Maybe 2. But you also have to consider that the 2002 car also has traction control, but also way way less downforce. So the 7 second gap is pretty representative of how fast the new cars are compared to the old ones.

    V10 faster on the fist two straights, but only marginally, then downforce does the magic in the Red Bull.

    No it wouldn't. Slicks don't account for the massive amounts of downforce that the modern F1 cars produce in comparison to the 2002 cars. Slicks could gain 2 seconds, maybe 3, but it would still be significantly slower. More importantly, this just goes to show just how slow the 2019 Williams really was.

    And with all that great technology that the best pilot is asleep of course it was to be expected that he will be faster so it does not exceed, the old pilot that he did had to do demanding and impeccable work, today's formula is a joke hahahahahahahahahaha
