I like to save my spin till just before each boost pad. It gets congested around them, and the spin keeps opponents from knocking me away.

Easy tracks are the hardest to place good, because way more people are good/consistent at it. The skill gap across players is significantly smaller.

I'm genuinely surprised I got my first ever win in '99 on THIS track yesterday! It was one of my favourite tracks on the SNES version and the wind never really annoyed me (I was already familiar with using the L+R buttons to fine-tune my lane position) so it was just a case of following this video's advice and getting an early lead and holding it! Sensible boost timing (only using manual boosts only when the track boost plates aren't nearby), zero wall collisions and an otherwise cleanish run (I think I hit a grey bumper once and a player's lucky bumper twice) ensured I had enough energy in my Goose left in the final lap to go hard with some extra boosts through the straightaways which helped me zip past the the Red Bumpers and keep 2nd place in my rear view!

As someone who's first victory was this stage on GP using Stingray the best advice is to play aggressively and attack the lines. Also make sure you the tracks before this you trying to KO as much as possible. A Large power ball does wonder here.

Interesting that you recommend spamming your skyway. My strategy as of late has been to try and hold onto it as long as possible (a full lap oftentimes). I've found that it helps to ensure I have plenty of health to work with at the end of a race.

You can't go wrong with either one really, what I should have emphasized a lot more is when specifically to do it. I find myself holding it if I am high up in the pack but always spam it when low lol.

Someone already mentioned not boosting right before hitting a boost pad, so I actually only have one thing to add to what is otherwise a very solid explanation of Death Wind I strategies. This may be hit or miss information, but I find the best time to activate the skyway when you are NOT on Lap 4 is to actually activate the skyway right before you cross the line into the next lap. If you time it right, you can hit three boost pads on the skyway while everyone else has to deal with rough patches and bumpers (there is a boost pad to the right instantly after the line, then a pad in the middle, and finally one on the left before the turn). If you are far behind first place, this Skyway will extend into the next turn as well. If you are on Lap 4 and still have your Skyway, use it during or after you finish healing and hope you catch up to people before the mad dash to the end. Your only shot at winning here is to frontrun or try to stay at the front of the pack. The skyway is not as helpful here as on other tracks.

Strange, I watched this video yesterday, and I get my first ever win in F-Zero 99 (after 15 hours) on this very course last night! Coincidence? You decide! 😅 I tried to always boost 'into the wind' on the turn where you face.. into the wind, but not so much on the other turn with the wind at your back. It made sense at the time but I wasn't watching the speedometer to see if it was any more than a placebo effect 😛

Death Wind is like that one narrow, congested highway people go 80mph on for some reason. You just grip the steering wheel as hard as you can and pray you don't die. I actually got my first win on Silence, and it was pretty dang easy, because if you just practice enough to not slam walls you were better than 90% of the early playerbase

I like to skyway on the lap markers straight away after the dash plate. There's only one plate on that side, but three on the skyway if it runs just right, and you skip over the dirt section. Don't cook it for too long though, on this track it's better to use it sooner rather than later. I would also like to say, it's always better to use the shoulder buttons to get to the dash plates than it is to turn into them. Turning into them often sends you in weird directions and you pinball, wasting precious energy.

Noteworthy is that wind does not push your car when under the effects of the boost strips or while in the pit. Not realizing that made me swerve into a bumper or two.

Yes, which is why you have to boost to 'ride' them as you don't lose speed

  • @SamuraiGoroh

Some pointers to mention: - Never use your boost before taking a boost pad, you'll lose HP in vain (afterwards is good). - When jumping, pressing down will make the car fly longer (and up shorter), you can use this with all cars to go fast for longer (though Fire Stingray doesn't benefit if already at max speed).

  • @TedbearFZ

Golden Fox is better on this course, Stingray can get ranked out very easy if it gets bumped to hard or misses a boostpad while its not at top speed bc of the poor acceleration. ANything in particular thats causing you to rank out?
