agreed. some of his solos are all time greats. la villa strangiatto, limelight, subdivisions.... and his song writing and melodic qualities he brings to the band are a huge component to why the band is so good. you cant have an elite level power trio if not every member is elite.

You are looking at “THE” progressive rock band!! YYZ was one of their few instrumentals. Geddy Lee (bass & vocals & keys), Neil Peart (drums) & Alex Lifeson (guitar & keys). 3 pc band & all were masters at their instruments!! Neil incidentally did most of the song writing (lyrics). Cancer took Neil but not before he showed everyone how drums can/could be played! Every drummer in existence tips their hat to Neil & sometimes even bows down front! 😉🥁

The Morse is in the drums at the beginning. Alex was flying (he's a pilot) the band back to Pearson (YYZ) and they heard the code on the NAV(?) radio. That set the juices flowing. I don't know if you'd call it zoning code. Its from the time when flights were transmitted through teletypes (think oldschool typewriter). Transmission time was pretty slow, think 2-3 letters per second. Easier/faster to send "YYZ-YYC" than it is to say "Lester B Pearson Airport to Calgary International". Each country does theirs slightly different. America LAX is Los Angeles, DFW is Dallas-Fort Worth, LGA is La Guardia, JFK is one of the airports servicing New York, MSP is Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Europe: HEA is London-Heathrow, GAT is London-Gatwick, AMS is Amsterdam Canada starts all airport names with the letter 'Y', YYZ is Toronto, YVR is Vancouver, YYC is Calgary.

Certainly rush never made it as big as zepplin or the stones, but by no means were they hidden. Canada has tons of great music, im just glad to see people react to any of it

Geddy Lee, the bass and keyboard player is the vocalist as well. On most all of their songs, he sings way up high. Neil, the drummer, wrote most all of the lyrics in their songs. Eric, Guitar, and Geddy did most of the musical composition. They play the shit out of their instruments, so much sound out of a three piece. They really stood out. Much of their earlier music is very complex prog rock theme albums. Their 80's stuff is probably the stuff you'd dig the most. A couple of suggestions. Sub Divisions and The Spirit of Radio. Especially Spirit of Radio. Nice Regge break in the middle.

YYZ is the airport code for the Toronto airport. Home for these guys. This was written to express their joy on returning home. The intro is Morse code for YYZ. Never had any lyrics, but that didn't stop the crowd in Rio from singing to it. Since you like Neil's drums so much you should check out his solo in Frankfurt. As rush was flying into their home airport, Toronto they heard the Morse code for Toronto Airport. They incorporated that in the beginning of the song. YYZ is the code for on the baggage tickets for Toronto. The rest of the song is dedicated to happenings in an airport ei arrivals and reunions, people running around and departing their loved ones are all in the musical changes in the song. I think that is the story of YYZ.

YYZ is one of 3 completely instrumental songs by Rush. Vocals are usually handled by Geddy Lee - (bass, vocals, keyboards, pedal-keyboard). Alex Lifeson - the guitarist, does some BGVs. A bit of trivia - the intro section and end are taken straight from the Morse code for the major airport in Ontario (airports have 3-letter codes, Ontario is "YYZ" - thus the name) - where the band are from :-)

I like how the crowd quites down during thier solos so they can hear it. Some couldn't hold back tho later on lol. Also, it's fun to notice when the crowd is winded by the singalong parts. Because they are jumping the whole time. That's not easy. But they kept on dancing. That's not just top draw; that's legendary.

Dad said " Geddy jumped on the piano ! " Yeah that's one of the many things the Musicians in Rush Do ! They Jump on things and and ride it in a direction you were not expecting! Just to suggest some of my favorite's ; "Bastille Day", " Vital Signs", " The Pass" , "Scars", "Super Conductor", and "Countdown"! I have many more Favorites. But those are some the songs that other reactors have not reacted to and also my personal favorite's ! Great Job ! Cheers 🍻

To answer you question YYZ is without lyrics. The bassist Geddy does all the vocal work for this trio and is held in pretty high regard. The drummer (Neil) writes all of their lyrics, which he is as fantastic with as his work behind the kit.

There are technically lyrics they are just “said” via their instruments. The intro takes it’s rhythm from the Morse Code for the letters YYZ. YYZ is the airport code for Toronto Pearson. This is Rush’s home airport. YYZ represents arriving home after a journey to the band.

YYZ is the name of the airport in Toronto. Peart passed on earlier this year, and yes there are 3 GOATS in this band.

YYZ is the fan favorite instrumental from Rush. If you listen at the start of the song, the pattern that Neal is ringing on the bells is morse code for Y Y Z. Each airport broadcasts a three letter morse code signal that identifies the airport for any planes that may have lost communications. Rush begins and ends their tours at The Toronto International Airport which has a morse code signal of YYZ. The fans have loved that song since it came out many years ago! Some info on the band: Neal Peart is the undisputed King of Rock Drummers! He also wrote all the lyrics for every Rush song with the exception of the first album when they had a different drummer. Alex Lifeson throws guitar licks out that are absolutely amazing! He covers such a wide variety of sounds and techniques that it is challenging to keep up with them. Geddy Lee is one of the best (if not THE BEST) bass players in the rock world. He also plays keyboards and does the vast majority of vocals for the band. All in all, Rush is, in my mind, the best rock/progressive rock band that this world has had the pleasure of seeing. The band toured for 40 years and during that time I had the pleasure of seeing them perform live on 8 different occasions. Some suggestions for future reactions are La Villa Strangiato (Instrumental), Tom Sawyer, 2112, Natural Science, Animate Me and Roll the Bones. Roll the Bones (the song title from the album of the same name) is the only rock song that I know of that has a skeleton doing a rock and roll rap session! Enjoy!

Seriously, Neil is not the only GOAT here. Geddy Lee on Bass is the master and Alex Lifeson on lead guitar is underrated and easily in top 5 leads. Alex and Geddy are multitalented, they can both play keyboards although Geddy does most of it and they often play bass pedals simultaneously. That’s why they get the sound they do despite only being 3. Massive back catalogue to dive into with 19 studio albums. Xanadu from Exit Stage Left tour 1981 showcases their talent.

Great video guys. Huge Rush guy here, providing y’all with some facts: You had Peart right! It’s not Pert. Neil Peart was the primary lyric writer. Geddy Lee is the coolest bassist ever and also the vocalist and also the keyboard player (he ALSO plays keys with his feet). Big Al is the guitarist, also a pilot, and honorary member of the Canadian Air Force. All three members have earned the Order Of Canada, the first Canadian rock band to receive this honour. Much love to you and your family from BC Canada ❤️✌🏻🇨🇦

Fun Fact: That Soccer Stadium in RIO holds 200,000 people when the field is packed like that. There are only a handful of bands or artists that can FILL a Venue like that. TINA TURNER Packed that Stadium as well with just as many enthusiastic fans! In fact, she likely did it before RUSH. But for the ULTIMATE RIO CONCERT RECORD, that belongs to The ROLLING STONES> 2 MILLION FANS on the BEACH beside the Ocean!✌🍁✌

"Passage to Bangkok". From their landmark album "2112". Came out 1975. Neil's third album with them. Their self titled debut, Rush, had drummer John Ramsey. His health couldn't allow him to tour the way they needed, so he resigned from the band. Enter 'The Professor'. P ear t. Pronounced like EAR. Peart.

To answer your question, no never any lyrics. It's one of two instrumentals. When you hear the song, try to imagine you're on a plane descending onto the runway of the largest city in Canada and eventually you immerse yourself into the hustle and bustle of the airport terminal and into the heart of a vibrant city.

Hey, guys. Just wanted to let you know that YYZ is one of their few instrumental songs. YYZ is actually the airport code for Toronto, their home town. This , I believe was filmed in Rio and the crowd was absolutely awesome. They do have a song named A Passage to Bangkok, which I believe is the one that you were thinking about. So many good songs from this band, hard to choose, but I'm sure you would enjoy The Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Free Will and Working Man. That would give you a nice taste of what this band is all about. Enjoy the journey -- you won't be disappointed !!
