F-100D Dev Log: The Road to Realism

Our dedicated team completed an extensive journey across Texas, Georgia, Ohio, and Indiana, meticulously scanning F-100 aircraft to guarantee the utmost quality and precision. With the infusion of these invaluable resources, our team is channeling creativity and expertise to bring the Super Saber to life, ensuring every detail captures and preserves the essence of this iconic aircraft.
An exceptional experience took place in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where an immersive week unfolded due to a fuel valve failure with the last flying F-100. This unforeseen event offered a unique opportunity to engage in detailed aircraft maintenance, capturing essential sounds and aerial footage. These experiences, complemented by insights from veterans, play a crucial role in shaping a highly realistic module.
The project is progressing steadily, focusing on the development of a comprehensive and accurate flight model for the Super Saber. Through a combination of computational methods, real aerodynamic data, and wind tunnel tests, the team is meticulously refining the model to accurately replicate the intricate dynamics of the actual aircraft. This effort stands as a testament to the team's unwavering commitment to delivering a high-quality, authentic experience in DCS World.

    Great update! Never new the throttle unit was (nearly) the same as the one one on the F-86 (with the Harrier II’s throttle looking like a more evolved version), but that’s hardly surprising given the lineage. ;) Looking forward to it coming to fruition! 👍

    While I'm not a fan of the F-14 or impending F-4, I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is a level above them. To me it looks to be on par or even a bit marginal in comparison. The F-100 is just another Cold War era fighter I care little about.

    Are you talking about the ones shown starting at 1:11 ? Those are the direct scans they took of the cockpit (notice the guy holding a blue colored tool a few seconds back). It is not what we will get directly but will be used by their artists to model and create the cockpit. At this stage, it is too early to say "it is better than heatblur", lets judge it when it actually comes out. I too am excited for this module, day 1 purchase definitely.

    Looking really great so far I, and wish you the best in your ongoing work. Regards the failure its a perfect example of finding positives in any negatives that are bound to happen from time to time. Its obviously not a good thing but is a perfect example of how to navigate these types of problems and use them for growth and learning. I apply this in my life as much as I can and its helped me in hard times but unfort the positives are not as exciting as this. As you pointed out the gentlemen/women who continue to give their time to carryon these types of legacies deserve the utmost thanks and recognition. I have seen this many times with aircraft but also tanks and ships etc. It constantly amazes me the dedication shown and the pride in the work these men/women continue to show in their respective fields.

    I have technical question. This 3d scanning... You use it as reference only and model everything from scratch anyway or You optimizing and use scanned model? And same question about textures. ... Hope You will answer to this question cause this was always mystery for me.

  • @grinnellidesigns

    @grinnellidesigns

    6 ай бұрын

    A bit of both, we can use the textures from the scans and photogrammetry. Most of the time it is used for a reference to model from scratch. We have to use caution as the scans are not game ready by any means. The scans also help recreate the model as exact as possible, providing the most authentic experience.
