Ezra Pound Radio #33 (May 4, 1942) "Universality"

#33 (May 4, 1942) U.S.(B38) "Universality"
"The best reason for publishing Ezra Pound's broadcasts may be the simplest. Thousands of people have heard about them, scores have been effected by them, yet but a handful has ever heard or read them. Here they are." - Foreword
"Pound wrote these scripts; they are part of his legacy. He is so important in American and British literature of the twentieth century that whatever he wrote cannot be ignored. The speeches, more over, are valuable from a historical standpoint: they reveal what one man, broadcasting from an enemy radio station during World War II, believed his countrymen should hear. On the basis of what he said, moreover, Pound was arrested and accused of treason; he spent 13 years in St. Elizabeth's Hospital (a government institution for the criminally insane in Washington, D.C.) as a result." - Introduction

It is about fascism and its merits. It is about the infiltration into American politics that has been the cause of every American war.

This unintentionally comical and hilarious. To hear a man with such advanced linguistic and poetic skills spew a bunch of inflated racist gibberish is laughable. And mind-boggling.

I suggest you read more. Where did he get his opinions from? His judgments? Read more. You're assuming you know what he's saying and why

Sea_ Nettles No I don't think so. I've read a lot of Pound. I think his early poetry is brilliant. But he was traumatized by the First World War (understandable), and then became enraptured by fascist ideology (despicable). It's a tragic story. But these radio broadcasts are ridiculous and pathetic. You want to,defend them?

How a great poet can make foul himself into complete idioticy... Nevertheless, it is good to be published. More important to note that he later changed his views, regarding this as a provincial prejudice (cf. Wikipedia).

Try attacking his ideas based on your own independent research rather than operating based on the taboos you've been fed. True intellectual honesty knows no bounds - you simply must be careful to see who is speaking to you, why, and what they want you to think - and whether or not they have good evidence.
