I had this as a kid. We had to upgrade the computer's CD drive to actually run it. Yes, back then CD drive speeds were a spec to keep up with.

I loved playing these Dorling Kindersley programs as a lad, especially this one with the pre-rendered 3D landscapes you could explore.

At 51:03, Steam locomotives are fueled by burning coal in a firebox. As the fire heats up, hot air and smoke flow into a set of tubes in a large tank of water called a boiler. Because the tubes get INCREDIBLY hot, the water starts to boil and the steam rises up, collecting inside a dome. Pipes connect the dome to special cylinders. Inside the cylinders, the steam pressure pushes the piston to-and-fro. Excess steam escapes out a blast pipe through the stack. The moving pistons are linked by rods to the wheels. The rods change the to and fro movement into a POWERFUL force, that turns the wheels of the locomotive.

At 19:22, When a snooker cue hits a ball, the force of the knock causes the ball to start moving in a straight line until it hits another ball. The force of this collision then causes the white ball to change direction. The same force also causes the red ball to start moving. Friction will then cause both balls to slow down, until eventually, they stop moving all together.

At 2:29, Many animated films today are created using computers. This way, far fewer illustrations have to be drawn by hand, compared with traditional cel animation. Computer generated animation also makes films seem far more like real life than traditional animation ever could.
