The music world seems surprisingly small sometimes. Shortly before these Billy Idol videos came up, I happened to watch an old concert of his that had Brian Tichy on drums, who I also knew of through B'z.

Fantastic! Great job Shane. When you sub in, do you learn the songs by sheet music and or watch concert footage? Or is it more seat of the pants and on fly playing lol? Most often songs are played differently live than the recording. Anyways, fun to watch.

Yes, all of the above! I try and learn as much of it to memory as I can but if there is simply not enough time, which is usually the case, I will make cheat notes (how the song starts, write out specific patterns/etc) Thanks!

Any tips for the 16th notes on the hats-I find it so hard to keep up sometimes with a few of the idol songs.

haha. yes, I encountered the same thing while I was learning these tunes. It's all about relaxation. even more than ya think. practice playing the 16th hat pattern at a third the velocity you would normally, accenting the downbeats. If that's still too difficult. Good ol slowing the pattern down 30 bpm with the metronome. Try and get comfortable playing the downbeat accented. gradually speed it up in increments all while maintaining the relaxation. Hope that helps!

Nice job! Decent kit for sure. I didn't, perhaps I am mistaken, see a double pedal on it so I guess sprinkling some tasteful double bass bottom end on the grooves wasn't possible and might not be appropriate anyway as I am sure Steve want's it kept simple and just enough to support the tunes.
