Eye-gouging close combat tactics - British experts train Ukrainian forces

British combat instructors, Tommy Moore and Brett Mackenzie have risked their lives to train Ukrainian soldiers in an active war zone.
The two conflict fighter experts left the safety of the UK in October to stay at a Ukrainian army base, somewhere near the frontline, at an undisclosed location.
Exclusive by Valerie Browne
This training scheme is affiliated with Vans Without Borders humanitarian group: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/vans-...
Tommy said he was moved to help Ukrainians because they are the underdogs of this war who’ve had no choice but to fight.
He said: “Ukrainians are the small side, the side with the least technology, least air power, and in some ways intelligence.
What a phenomenal, proud, warrior people that they are. It was absolutely my honour and privilege to help in what little way I can to make their lives a little bit easier by providing some training.”
Adding: “They are not necessarily militaristic people, they’re normal people thrust into a situation which is horrible but they have no choice.”
He teaches close combat tactics to Ukrainian servicemen in the likelihood of coming face to face with Russian soldiers. Something he says is a common training deficit within the Ukraine units but crucial as recent counter-offensives have made close combat fighting within buildings more common.
Brett is a former British infantry soldier whose specialty is weapons training, he felt moved to help after seeing the Russian side targeting Ukrainian civilians. He said: “When this opportunity came along it was an absolute no-brainer I couldn’t get out there quick enough.”

All I can do is feel the tingles of pride in training the Ukrainian soldiers in CQB techniques from UK veterans. I reckon those UK veterans will have warm welcome to live in Ukraine as heros if they are ever sick of the UK. The military aid given to Ukraine should tell the people they are not alone. Keeping the Russian neclear threat low is what is preventing NATO from helping, but the training and munitions is what is keeping the offensive going.

I remember the cold war I served in during the 1980s in the USN. It was our impression then Soviet military equipment was 3rd rate at best. Noisy, unreliable and forever breaking down. Soviet troops we observed as extraordinarily poorly deciplined, poorly trained and poorly motivated. Watching the Russian military today serves as proof our observations back then were spot on.

@@RS-rj5sh I refer to what I personally consider the #1 factor on what makes very good military personnel. That being motivation. The willingness to fight. A legitimate reason in the minds of those troops to put their lives on the line for a just cause. Such a motive has not existed since the end of WWII for Russians. A motive that did not exist during the occupation of Soviet block nations. They were forces to fight with guns at their backs. A motive that did not exist in Afghanistan. A motive that does not exist today. Outside of sociopaths willing to rape, torture, murder and pillage, Russian have no such motivate troops. Therefore, they don't have an effective military, at all. I.e., the Afghans had more than enough equipment, weapons and training to easily defeat the Taliban. What they lacked was the will to fight. The same in 1960s Cuba. The Cuban people could have defeated Castro with relative ease, they simply didn't have the courage or will. They ran away, fleed. The same in many instances all over the globe in many era's.

Ukraine's Armed Forces is ranked 22 of 142 in the GFP (Gobal Firepower) review, an analytical display of data of 142 modern military powers. The GFP ranking is based on each nation's war making capability across land, sea and air, fought by conventional means. Ukraine appears to be quite capable. I wish that the West was tougher on Russia long ago and sent the weapons then, that it needs today. The international community's treatment of Russia's invasion of Georgia in 2008 was too soft and contributed to Putin's willingness to attack Ukraine and break international treaties.
