Thanks, Linda! I’m pretty smitten with him 🥰. And the top was apart for too long so there wasn’t any movement at all. There was a gap in the base that moved while the top didn’t. It’s because they didn’t allow for movement in the piece- the whole top was glued on instead of using joinery that allowed for expansion/contraction. But that’s ok, the top looks great now and those waxes are actually very durable. You are absolutely right, though. That would have been a much better solution had it not been split for so long.
You do beautiful work. Thanks for your uploads.

turned out very nice. couple questions, could you have remove the top and then fixed it? same with the drawers, could you have removed the bottoms to work on?
@elegantupgrades
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The top had no movement at all because the wood had warped out for so long, so no, taking it off wouldn’t have made a difference. This particular vanity wasn’t built with expansion and contraction in mind and it was damaged because of that. The drawers would have been easier if I removed the bottoms out. The reason I didn’t in this case was because these weren’t put together with a slide in panel and nail in the back. They were fully glued in with blocks and were locked in tight. Had I tried to remove the bottoms, I would have more than likely caused more damage to them and it wouldn’t have been worth it just for a few stains in the bottom.
As I'm sitting here watching you fill in the crack on the top, I had an idea. I'm wondering if you placed little slivers of the wax along the crack and used a heat gun on lowest setting and far enough away, how effectively it would melt the wax and force it down into the crack. Your thoughts ?
@elegantupgrades
Жыл бұрын
I thought about heating the wax directly on the top, my fear was that it would darken the wood because of how hot the wax has to get to actually melt.
Hello. Thank you for all your beautiful projects! I have a question. Can you mix Durham putty with paint to use on a raised stencil?
@elegantupgrades
Жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely! You will still want to add water as well as the paint and mix to a consistency that you like. Durham’s Putty has a ton of great uses. I will say that I (almost) always use joint compound for my raised stencils.

Next time you come across nail polish you might try acetone. Might work.

Yes, definitely no nightstands for this one. This was super functional as is and could also be used as a desk if someone wanted.
Oh, was wondering also if maybe you could trim the edges of the stencil??? Idk?
@elegantupgrades
8 ай бұрын
Yes, you can trim out a stencil. That would be lovely.
Nice! Can i ask what kind and brand of clay did u use for the moulds? And did u use a fiber paste or anything for your raised stencil?
@elegantupgrades
8 ай бұрын
I can’t remember what I did for this specific video, but I usually use the Paper Clay- I get it from amazon. And I don’t use fiber paste for raised stencils. I usually use baking soda mixed with paint if I want a thinner stencil or I’ll use drywall compound for a thicker raised stencil.

Acetone gets off fingernail polish. I get mine at a hair supply store. I was also told wal mart has it. Be sure to get just acetone not fingernail polish.
