Extreme were the band of the day. Other artists (Bowie, George Michael etc) performed brilliantly WITH Queen, but Extreme honoured them entirely on their own. A medley for the true fans performed by true fans. Extreme 'got' Queen. It's that simple.

Was a happy occasion but a sad one aswell as we saw the last appearance of one of the greatest guitarist ever the late great Mick Ronson.
Extreme gave the fans exactly what they wanted that day. They were the world's best Queen cover band for that moment.

AMEN
You should watch the interview with Nuno about how Brian May didn't want them doing queen songs. All the other bands had to play their own music. But Brian finally relented and said it was an amazing performance. I get chills every time I watch this.
Extreme is one of the best live bands I have ever seen.
So cool to see a tribute to the most epic band ever
Nuno Bettencourt, one of the best guitarists in the world.

The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in Wembley, London. Went for about 7 hours and had people like David Bowie, Annie Lennox, Guns n Roses, Elton John, Paul Young, Liza Fucking Minelli, Elizabeth Taylor, Extreme, Metallica, and literally a shitload of other Superstars celebrating Queen and Freddie Mercury after he passed to Aids a few Months earlier. Billions of People Watched this on live TV. Was nearly as big as Live Aid.

My highlight was James Hetfield of Metallica, Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath & the remaining members of Queen doing Stone Cold Crazy, and of course the closing of the show.
These guys are sooooo talented. Of course Nuno is one of the baddest men on the planet on the guitar and Gary Cherone is a great singer and a great frontman. Plus the 3 part harmonies. They’re amazing.
Gary Cherone: absolutely incredible and under-rated vocalist. Nuno Bettencourt: one of the world's greatest virtuoso guitarists. Check out more Extreme!!!!
Don't know why this didn't show up! Love Extreme! Been a fan since before this performance. Got to meet them backstage after a small venue show where I live many moons ago. They were awesome during the show - Nuno really showed off his guitar chops! - and they were all very nice & accommodating afterward... I spoke to Gary (lead singer) for almost 30 minutes about music, politics, life. He was very down-to-earth & easy to talk with. A concert I will never forget.
As soon as the audience started doing the "Radio Gaga" clapping, I couldn't keep my eyes dry, that was such a perfect tribute to Freddie Mercury AND in that same stadium where he himself did it on Live Aid 1985.
it's the 1992 tribute to Freddie Mercury ..organized by the rest Queen band members.... i watched the whole tribute video and it's Extreme that I enjoyed most... and of course George Michael (with the rest three Queen band) who did incredibly 'Somebody to Love' ... i believe Extreme enjoyed too doing their tribute.....that 'Stone cold crazy' was covered by Metallica, they included in their album that won grammies 🙂.. "the biggest tribute ever given to a deceased musician"😍 We miss you Freddie... 😇
I remember seeing this set the time. Their biggest tv exposure in the UK and they didn't play their own material. Respect.

Extreme is amazing!!! Gary’s vocals are CRAZY GOOD!❤️
You need to check out Green Day audience sings Bohemian Rhapsody if you want to hear the "spirit of Queen". The video shows just how much the UK treasured Queen.

Extreme can be a fun rabbit hole, Nuno Bettencourt is one of those under rated guitarist. A must check out for him "Midnight Express". Keep up the good work.
i remember i saw this tribute concert back in april 20th 1992 , it was a monday, live on a venezuelan tv station called venevision, presented by the amazing host mr gilberto correa, epic tribute to the alltime great legend freddie mercury of queen 👑
absolutely one of the greatest live concerts ever organized on this bloodcloth planet called earth
Extreme was One of the Best hard rock funky band, great guitar and bass players, fresh melodies!!!!!Love IT!!!!😍😍😍😍😄😄

More from Extreme: Rest in Peace; a great song.
I watched this concert when this happened. It was so beautiful and moving.
Watched this live on Mtv and after Extreme finished the DJ was standing next to James Hetfield of Metallica and he said.. How can anyone follow that?
EXTREME killed it !! Freddie would love it so much ✌🏼♥️
You two need to check out the entire Queen catalog from the first album on. That song you didn't know was "Stone Cold Crazy" from their 3rd album "Sheer Heart Attack" realeased in '73 or '74. I've been a fan since the 1st album, saw them twice in the early '80s. First time in 1980 during the "Game" tour ad again in '82 during the "Hot Space" tour, with Billy Squier, This concert was epic and being in the audience of a Queen concert is life changing. Check out 'Queen Rocks Montreal 1981" DVD that's the same show I saw at MSG in 1980. For more Extreme check out their hit "More Than Words" kind of a power ballad from the '80s.
Tears. Remembering this event. It was amazing and watched them in Aug 2023 live. Stunning band.
This was at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness was a benefit concert held on Easter Monday, 20 April 1992. In the 1992 BRIT Awards ceremony, May and Taylor announced plans for the concert. When tickets finally went on sale, all 72,000 tickets sold out in just three hours, even though no performers were announced apart from the remaining members of Queen.
I enjoyed this SOO much…they are the sleeper band from the 80’s…their new music is stressing KZread. Rock is alive and well…thank you for enjoying one of my favorite bands. ❤
Gary is doing same thing as Freddie does get audience involved.......
This was an overall totally awesome reaction!! Thank you guys for making me smile and laugh 😊😃
Love me some QUEEN !!
You guys are GREAT!
There were two acoustic songs after this, Love of My Life and Extreme"s own song More Than Words!
My opinion... Most well rounded, talented band ever.. They can play anything Their tribute was unmatched, and the highlight of the day
These guys are so talented and hard workers. Love this band!
One of the best performances ever.
Thank god for you both, love you guys!! I needed to laugh 😂💛 Best reaction ever to great music, thank you to the reactors and the requester 😊 Queen holds a special place in my heart, reactions to Queen please! This was awesome though, great tribute 😊

And Punchline still my favorite! Damn raw record full of rage and passion! It's brutal and it's amazing! Perfect album!
Extreme is an awesome band. Killer playing, songwriting and they all can sing like mad. I got to see them back in '91 opening for ZZ Top. Man, what a great concert that was.
An interesting Van Halen/Queen hybrid band that could have been a lot bigger with a little more luck. Their guitarist Nuno Bettencourt was (is) amazing. "Midnight Express", "Hip Today", "Rest In Peace" and "Rise and Shine" are a few impressive songs to check out. But if you are starting with this performance you can see how talented they were. Every other band that played that Freddie Tribute pretty much did their own material. It was an impressive performance that should have boosted their careers. But ya know: grunge happened, so....
I have my N4 guitar, right here .... you need to checkout some Extreme, start with "Get the Funk Out" :)

I have an N4 too mate, I saved like hell for it 12 months when I was 15. It was my first major purchase of my life up until that point. I still have it and play it.
Saw Extreme just before this event, performing at a smallish club in Nurnberg. To open their set, before the lights came up, I could just barely see Gary climbing a rope that was hanging down to the stage, and from 30 feet up, hanging upside down from the rafters, he started singing, opening with "Mutha(Don't Wanna Go to School)", their first radio hit in the Boston area. Extreme KILLED that show, playing exactly like they do here, with an abundance of energy. PLEASE check out "Mutha" and also the track "Rock a Bye Bye" which has an unlisted guitar solo after the song that will give you enough goosebumps to change your hairstyle. "When I'm President" also features Nuno doing ridiculous things on guitar. Nuno should've been a household name a long time ago. Just ask Brian May.
Loved the whole show! Been at the tribute concert... quite a long time ago! Means: I am gettting old! ^^+gg But it was worth it!
Extreme really stole the show that day.
Pretty sure was one of the few bands of the day who had the chops to honor Queen the best
For about 25 minutes, Extreme *was* Queen. Period.
There's a great story out there about how Gary and Nuno instantly became buddies over a mutual love of Queen. After several hours of talking music Gary offered you know a spot in his band, Nuno thought he was crazy, but then dropped his band and joined Gary's within a week. The rest is history.
Thanks for this. Haven’t seen this in years. Time to break out the dvd. Awesome. And extreme drops a new album in June. Sweeet
Also: Even though I love this band and tribute performance, the end w/ Suzy was even more epic, lmao. I was also in tears laughing.
I hope Freddy enjoyed it
You would really like Queen Stone Cold crazy
This whole concert was fantastic George Micheal was amazing singing Someone to love
this is the world most watched live broadcast live show ever according to calculations over 1.5B billion world wide watched
I'm reminded how in love I am with buddy. And in love with Lady's hair
Great reaction vid, thanks for sharing it! I realize this is an old video, two things: 1. The song you hadn't heard before was "Stone Cold Crazy". Metallica did a cover of it for the Elektra Records 40th Anniversary CD and later released it on Garage Inc. 2. You mentioned how London peeps can sing, two videos you may want to just check out: Brian May's Live At The Brixton Academy doing Queen's "Love of My Life", the crowd singing will give you goosebumps (the one from neil russell is the best). The second is the stage camera on the lead-up to Green Day playing at Hyde Park, they played "Bohemian Rhapsody" over the PA and the crowd just took over. Looking forward to seeing more of your vids!
Sick. 🔥
Fantastic, she almost shat herself!! Love it!!!
This is the first time i have watched this performance of extreme, on the day i was around ten rows back from the stage and i will say it sounded better live on the day. They where friggin awesome.
You should have seen Gary perform with Van Halen. I saw him in concert in Hartford with Van Halen and he ran around that stage doing all kinds of crazy stuff and he never missed a beat. I can't tell you how many times I've seen extreme I've lost count but you really do have to go out and see them in concert they're touring right now. I saw them twice on this tour alone and it was worth every penny it was fantastic!
Great cover
Extreme is unbelievably talented, harmonies, entertaining, great vocols, and their NEW ALBUM SIX WATCH RISE GARY LEAD SINGER WE CALL A MIX OF SLINKY. & Gumby mixed together.
I remember tickets went on sale at mid-day (iirc) and my work lunchtime started at 11:45. I flew out that factory, did the usual 25 minute drive in about 16 minutes (sorry officers) and got on that phone (no apps or online then!) and started dialling and redialling until eventually getting through! Wasn't even very late back to work. Bloody great day out it was too!
Fantastic Opening for The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. I saw in live on tv when I was a teenager...!!!
Extreme have just released their first single in 15 years, called Rise, you should review it just for the guitar solo
This happened on my 19th birthday!!
EXTREME HONORED FREDDIE SO WELL GOD BLESS GREAT TRIBUTE ☮️🤘💯🔥♾️👑💞
true successors to Queen. Freddie lives on in Gary! Your reactions are epic and oh so real!
Do more Extreme, just saw these guys live about a week ago and they still have this energy, so much fun to watch!
That ending though... Hysterical!!! 🤣🤣🤣 You all are awesome to watch! And please react to Iced Earth "Dante's Inferno" alive in Athens 1999
gary and nuno, top shelf
Gary cherone legendary Boston native frontman . Extreme, Van Halen the list goes on.
I've always wondered if Gary Cherone got offered the Queen gig before Adam Lambert came along.
i love it xd very nice
Check out "Get the funk out" 🤙
I watched this live at the time the most outstanding performance of the day was George Michael somebody to love
After watching the tribute concert ..always felt Gary Or George could have really fronted Queen... Both have the stage presence.. I love that they did a proper cover of Love of My life with Brian May on electric guitar which then lead into More then words.

Brian May did play on the studio version on one of their b-sides, not here
You Miss the last 2 songs. Love of my live was excellent.
The video you use cuts off the beginning of Brian May speaking to the crowd, where he tells them that in his opinion Extreme more than anyone else who would be on that stage that day understood what Queen and Freddie was about. Brian is a huge fan of Nuno, check out the video of him geeking out over Nuno's solo in Get the Funk Out. I really wish Gary had been asked to be Queen's new front man
This is way better than Van Halen III. The song Stone Cold crazy is considered the first thrash song. And later in this concert Metallica plays it

Metallica doesn't play it in this concert, Queen does with Hetfield
Oh I was there about 20 folks back (wearing a thinner man's clothes) and they really did rock You guys should also check out from this same concert: 1. George Micheal doing Somebody To Love 2. James Hetfield - Stone Cold Crazy (Metallica also previously have done a cover of this 1973 Queen song, often cited as the first, or at least a precursor, Thrash Metal song).
Check out Nuno's " Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee." Great shred.
the song you don‘t know is the one they say it‘ s a pre-metal song, called „stone cold crazy“ by queen. metallica have their version of this queen-song which they‘ve got a grammy for.
They do us Boston people well
Wanna hear the Brits sing? Green Day, Hyde Park the audience sing Bohemian Rhapsody...perfectly
The song you didn‘t know is stone cold crazy.
Queen's early stuff would really appeal to you guys - Sheer Heart Attack, Stone Cold Crazy, Seven Seas of Rhye, Keep Yourself Alive, Now I'm Here...and on it goes
hello guys, has been awhile since I've last visited you and watched your smiles. Thank you very much for your energy :) by the way, have you guys considered to react to Rise by the Extreme. Loving music as you do, I strongly suggest you guys react to it . ;)
Thank you. Thank you for appreciating the genius that is Extreme (even though they were performing Queen’s music) and the contagious energy of Gary Cherone. I’m sure you’ve heard their song More Than Words but they do better with hard rock in my opinion. Get the Funk Out is a great one!
Extreme should have been much more popular than they were. I have albums I-III on my phone still. Great fun every once in a while.
