Our house burned down in April, and I had to rebuy all the clothes I had accumulated over the years. I'm finding that being more intentional about what I have in my wardrobe makes such an enormous difference. I was holding onto so many pieces that I just never wore! Thanks for this video it is so nice to see people have the same emotions and overwhelm when it comes to clothes!

I also struggle with bloating and tummy ache for what I thought was no reason (other than IBS). It never crossed my mind it might be the waistband digging in, or other tight clothes aggravating the already delicate situation. Definitely going to have a look at my wardrobe now, thanks for the inspiration and honesty! 😍

I have just been diagnosed with vestibular migraine - dizziness, fuzzy head but not often headaches - and I found an amazing website which talked about IBS being abdominal migraine- which I didn’t know!! The information was written by consultant and professorial doctors who specialise in neurological disorders, balance etc. They explained that migraine is a neurological condition that can affect many parts of the body and how important it is to find the things that trigger it for you. I have always struggled with fixed waistbands even when I was slimmer so it’s a bit of a generic problem for me!!

I appreciate your honesty about the waistbands. I can’t do those either and it makes me feel better knowing I’m not the only one! I always thought it was due to being a celiac but the abdominal tenderness and pain still isn’t completely gone. I’ve tried the low FODMAP diet and that did help but I couldn’t identify the triggers. I’d love to hear more of what you have learned regarding these issues.

I feel the same way! It's so nice to hear another woman talk about how difficult, actually, nearly impossible it is to wear pants with a fixed waistband! I thought I was the only one so it is a HUGE deal for me to hear someone else discuss this. So many fashion folks here on KZread don't take this type of situation into account when discussing "flattering" or "appropriate" styles. With Crohn's disease, it's not just about looking good but, more importantly, feeling good too! Thank you Chelsea and Natalie for being so open about this challenge! I would LOVE to see more content in general on fashion ideas that take abdominal pain into account.

💖 I always leave this space feeling encouraged:) I’ve been feeling drab about my wardrobe lately but current financial/budget situations prevent me from buying new clothes. I feel really inspired to go through my inventory and get rid of the things that are tripping me up, put away the winter sweaters that are taking up space, and be grateful to the Lord for what I have with fresh eyes! Truly working with what I’ve got even if that just means rearranging for a new perspective!

If you do lose weight later, getting rid of it will still have been okay! Say you lose weight 3 years from now... I'd personally rather have the extra space and peace of mind knowing everything fits for 3 years, rather than a cloud hanging over my head! I actually did lose weight at one point, but some of my "big" clothes still looked nice on me and I just replaced a few pieces from the thrift store. I've only ever missed 2 items of clothing and the space and energy has been more than worth letting them go. Good luck decluttering those guilty emotions. They're the real culprit!

My wardrobe base is Blues, creams, and camel tan. I have a colorful silk scarf that I can wear with almost everything. I'm a mom so my main bag is a orange dagne dover backpack. I use my toiletry 26 that is in my bag as my small purse. I use to have way more but I sold 12 bags. Try using a color wheel as well. Pinterest is also my friend.

I saw that you put up your video so I decluttered my closet today before I watched. We have soooo much hot weather here in SC that I have to keep more light clothing than heavy so I chose to do more than 33 items as I use them year round...and we have to change clothes 2-3 times a day because of the extreme humidity. It's crazy. But I definitely was able to declutter a lot of things that I just don't reach for anymore. Love your honesty and transparency ♥️

I love having an interim bin lol I sometimes hate getting rid of some clothes… so being able to set in a bin and ignore it is great. My rule is I can’t keep getting new clothes unless I get rid of stuff (and DONT use it as an excuse to overspend). Sometimes it reveals items I need to get rid of because I didn’t miss it… or I find a new way to use an old piece (which I would have thrown away had I not had my bin). I have LOVED this idea through my pregnancies and postpartum new body. It allowed me to get the mess and anxiety out of my face… while having the freedom to decide later down the road. It stops quick irrational throwing away lol but different make me feel pressure to loose weight or keep forever. I just casually check each season and try to analyze if there’s anything that just needs to move on! Anyways … mom tummy and pants waist bands SUCK😝I don’t have pain but I definitely weave between bloating vs not😄 it can literally make items stop fitting or slide off.

Letting go isn't easy, thanks to your video, you are helping me to learn that those clothes aren't serving a purpose for me anymore because I am not able to wear them, also every time I open my closet I have to keep making that decision, so now I am just doing it. Time to make room for things that fit me now. Holding on to those past items are preventing me from the life I can live now with clothes that fit me better now. My closet can't have room if I am still holding on to those things that don't fit right. Thank you for helping me see.

Okay, just went through my disaster of a closet. I have 7 denim pants, one black dress slack, one long black dress, one colorful dress, numerous black graphic t-shirts (which I put aside since it is too hot for black here in West Texas), 2 graphics tees, a tank-top, one flowery top, and 4 comfortable solid tops. I got my winter stuff packed away earlier last month. While I was at it, I put all of my soft suitcase and soft tote bags (that I use for traveling) into the 30 inch rolling duffel bag. Changed out my footer blanket to a long shawl I had crocheted about 10 years ago. I wish I can share pictures!

I’m so thankful you share your challenges with clothing in regards to your chronic illness. You’re the only youtuber I know that I can relate to in this way. I have a chronic illness and my weight can change very drastically so for financial reasons I need to keep so many more clothes because I never know what size I will be for each season that year. This year, I can only wear about 1/4 of my summer wardrobe. So it’s like a ‘forced’ capsule. I’m learning to just accept this is just how it is for me right now and not resent how many clothes I need to keep.

I have a question for you have you thought about making a bin for whenever your abdominal migraines flare up? That way when they do flareup you can take that bin out and use it as your capsule wardrobe and put your other clothes that no longer working for you into the bed for when your abdominal migraines are under control. That way you don’t have to keep re-purchasing clothes when they’re not working for you.

Natalie 💖 Have just paused the video to say: I don’t know what underwear & bras you prefer but from one chronic pain suffering mamma to another, have you tried Knixwear? They’re a Canadian (I think!) women owned and run company that are inclusive and that make undergarments for all stages of life. I’ve used their stuff through pregnancy, in between and beyond. Their pieces last ages and on top of being comfy they give a really good shape (think comfort of a bralette but shape and support of a ‘proper bra’). I hope this helps and have to thank you for speaking so openly & honestly about the impact of chronic pain on your day to day life; because of your gentle encouragement I sold a pair of boots that weren’t working for my joint pain last winter and bought some that I instead wore everyday without pain! You helped me to remember that I shouldn’t be beating myself up for trying to find things that my body physically needs. Thank you! 😘

Thanks for the video! I really like the concept of a capsule wardrobe, have some pinterest inspo but always had big trouble making one in real life. This year, as we welcomed a refugee at home, we had to get just the minimal clothes to our bedroom and leave the rest in the guestroom where our refugee sleeps. Turns out, I used just the same pieces all the time without any problem. I didn't count but it s basically a one week luggage and it works just fine, I am not missing anything. So I will keep this in mind when she moves out and we can use our wardrobe again

I agree with all of your philosophy and love you sharing your experience! I just want to share that I think having restrictions on what you can comfortably wear actually makes decluttering and being selective much EASIER not harder. You have a constant painful reminder not to wear certain things. You can't fool yourself forever that it doesn't work for you. 😉 Anyway, it turned out beautifully. It is really satisfying when everything just works in your closet! All the best.

Hi Natalie, I myself have chronic illnesses, so totally understand about jeans. I have found that jogging are a life changer for me, they don’t cause the problems with dexterity and stomach issues. Also you can go up a size and that gives you extra room if bloating is giving you a bad day. All the best xx❤

I love closet clean out videos. I struggle with continuing to love items as I grow and my style changes. I really need to reign it in when I’m out of pregnancy season. I picked casual comfy pieces that will grow with me instead of maternity specific clothing. I want to find pieces from online boutiques or local stores and really try to find timeless pieces and find quality styles. Thank you as always Natalie for inspiration 💖 Had to edit to add I’ll be 29 in a couple of months. Approaching my 30s and being a new CPT with a more muscular body than I used to have I feel a little overwhelmed when I buy clothes. I noticed I’ve had a harder time lately to feel like I have “enough”. I need a fresh start with my wardrobe and post pregnancy will be a good excuse to do it!

Thank you for talking about chronic illness! I hve chrons and i have the exact same issues with anything gripping even lightly on my torso vra straps underwear bands waistbands on pants even loose pants i have loose linen ones for the times when i need pants but even those really hurt after a while and trigger my belly whethwr their up like an old grandpas to my chest or low as possible on my hips my body just does not tokerste anything like that. So i live in oversized shirts, shirt dresses and maxi dresses ive always been modest so my clothes have always covered me and been looser anyway but ive become even more so with chrons and wear singlets as i did pre puberty to cover my chest and all my dresses are long so i dont need to worry about weating modern underwear no style cut or material has worked they all trigger flares. Unfortunately as a female i need to wear modern underwear once a month for a week which is such a bad time for my body anyway that loose old underwear is the least of my problems haha. So im very much victorian era edwardian era "underwear" aka a shift/chemise and the maxi dresses i wear have at most come in under my chest not enough to touch my skin or band but to be flattering and not just a giant pillowcase of a person 😂 i also instead of pants have been wesring thigh high socks when im cold or may have to lit my maxi dress up to my knees to do something cleaning gardening whatever it is. I also dont bend over anymore and compress my tummy i squat straught down instead or am upright on my knees (like gardening so i got knee pads) i also put everything i use at heights wesr idont hand to bend over like raised garden beds at hip to waist high or in the kitchen everything below the bench is non existent to me haha id rather use a step stool to get something up high than bend. I also have found that diet even as healthy as i was like athlete level healthy played a part in my body because thise healthy foods like fiber or hard to digest things or startches werent healthy for me so i started SCD or specific carbohydrate diet i imagine id be good for anyone for a try but specifically its aimed at chrons ulcerative colitis and celiac and other digestive issues AND autism and other behavioural issues. Within a week my energy jumped a lot my bloating lessend quite dramatically i know longer had that heavy sorta outward pressure and tenderness which had become the norm for me AND i just overall felt good like i didnt realise how bad my normal was until i stopped feeling like that granted my illness isnt miraculously cured overnight and my tummy still cant handle bending or anything on it but the difference even early and seemingly as small as it might seem outwardly is like heaven and hell for me. Even my migraines and feeling like i constantly had to pee because of the pressure lessened so much. I will say ive never been a jean wearer before i even was diagnosed with chronic illnesses i got motion sick bad and had a weak tummy in general very picky eater but everytime i did try wearing jeans it killed westher they were dtretchy and basically leggings or were high waisted or whatever UNTIL i found some lee cooper mens denim overalls and OMG it was insane because its held up on your shoulders it feels like wearing a dress and i could do everything i wanted to in pants and have the top under a jumper so they looked less farmer if i wanted haha and because the front is super loose and doesnt lay on your belly a full term pregnant woman could wear them honestly but it also means no worrying about bloat or anything and you can fit right in the garden with them or put in nice shoes and a jumper and go out dinner like its SOOO good like check out overalls for any pants wearing stuff oh mine is the bib kind that covers your chest and back too. So not the suspenders type kind more like the cute ones you see babies wearing or maybe amish people haha but farmers too so its not a style for everyone but you can make it for you so yeah i also tried a belly band the japanese style ones thinking that may help its didnt it was like wearing tight leggings over my entire tummy. I cant do tight clothing any pressure on my body even if its not my tummy feels awful for me thankfully i live in a sunshine state in australia so i can live in maxi dresses year round just with a wool jumper over me and knee high boots on in winter haha but maxi dresses or even knee length dresses you should really try if you have the same issues with clothing as i do theyve been a godsend and i feel so pretty and feminine in them and you can find so many pretty patterns and make them to suit you if you cant find anything modest or your style in stores. I prefer long sleeves anna of green gables kind and a sweetheart modest neckline with a lightly frilled/scalloped edges like broderie anglaise sort of style or a ruffle nd solid darker colours so theyre timeless and not so busy or loud like royal blue or hunter green or wine red. Mostly i love white since it goes with anything and i feel all greco roman or princessy haha but you just gotta find your core colours that suit your skin eye and hair tone and go with eachother and yeah build your wardrobe from there. And know youre not alone with clothes and chronic illness issues! 💖💖💖

Hi Natalie! I always love watching you declutter, especially your closet!! I wish I had that much will power! I just wanted to toss an idea out there, b/c I understand about how clothes can make your stomach upset. I was introduced to Carol Tuttle (through Erica Lucas on You Tube) who came up with the idea that based on your personal energy, your clothing can reflect your energy. Long story short, with her personal style recommendations, most folks should not wear black... sounds crazy, I know. But I have to say, it has made a HUGE difference in how my stomach feels. I used to be someone who had to drink Pepto Bismol every morning (Sorry, TMI), but i stopped wearing black, especially as my daily work pants, and it is amazing, the difference that I feel. I am just trying to toss an idea your way, it has made such a difference for me, I hope maybe it can help you. Maybe just try not wearing black for a little while and see? I just wish I would have found this out a while ago, LOL!!! Thank you for being a calm and encouraging voice on You Tube!!!

Such good motivation as I’m packing to move! Suggestion for you, not sure if you’ll see this because I’m behind on your videos. You might like the Chrissy jeans from CJLA. They are SO stretchy, just as comfortable as a pair of leggings. Not as comfortable as your drawstring pants but maybe somewhere in between those and less stretchy jeans.

I had to take stock of the clothes I actually wear regularly in my closet. I didn't include anything for church, and came up with 19 pieces (tops, shorts, and one pair of flip flops) that I rotate through in the summer. I live in North Texas, so jeans and long sleeves are out until at least late September, if not October. I'm stunned. It's time for me to actually go through everything and make my closet a happy place again. Thank you for the nudge in that direction. BTW - I paused the video at 6:05 to look and comment.
