I've been in Chittagong for roughly six hours and it was chaotic as well. Garbage everywhere, people, bikes, cars, cows all mixed on the streets, mutilated kids following our 3 wheel taxi barefoot, old women begging on the side of the street and then in the middle of all this, a limo looking car stopping by a hotel and a couple dressed up in luxurious cloths entering it for dinner (I know cause we also ate there). I bought some cool things for a good price at the local indoor market. A golden ring, some leather and snake bags and a beautiful sharee. Then the taxi driver stole my shopped items that he had stored under his seat, claiming later that he had no idea, but after a good fight with the port authorities they were "magically" found. Also, I will never forget a woman sitting on the rocks by the river, soaking a cloth in some yellowish water that was coming out of the rocks from some factory on the back and then squeezing this liquid into a bucket. To this day I don't know what it was but it was something that she was obviously doing for her living, she would get some money for it. While leaving, I gave her an envelope with some money inside through some guy (it was the advive to give money if I want right before I leave so that not plenty of beggars would follow me around) and I'll never forget that she looked inside thw envelope, FIRST thanked God by making dua and THEN thanked me by waving her hand and smiling. It moved me deeply that she thanked God first. Ah.. Bangladesh.. A unique experience. Like a parallel universe of some kind. When I went back to silence I needed time to get my senses back to my reality.

I went downstairs to make coffee in the middle of watching this and the silence was deafening. The amount of square footage the average American (and I'm assuming brit and most westerners) have to themselves is something we take for granted every moment of our lives. An entire 2-acres of land with no one else but my parents and my dog, and it feels appropriate. Yet seeing these people shoulder to shoulder, butts to nuts, everywhere they go - it's wild. They seem happier somehow than most people I see every day, so good for them. A beautiful thing to see.

Another great adventure! I raised kids for so many years and now they're all but one last grown up and out on the own and I'm 47 now but have burning desire to travel before to late. I just happened to worked for a company for 20yrs that cut half the workers and gave us severance package to leave. I took that and enjoying few months off now and would love to go somewhere for a couple weeks or a month but not sure where to go and hoping to convince someone that traveled before to help me by going with. My dream is to visit Thailand but if there is a place that's just as good and affordable please let me know. Love to get out there soon. This trip would of been too much on me. Too intense and hectic with all that noise. Cheers to you and Bald on surviving that trip. Can't wait for next adventure. 🍻

Oh and you forgot your phrasebook, which you could have at least pointed to, as they read and see pictures. And you had an unforgettable experience, you lucky dog! I do think when I go, I'll just see Dhaka, the Mosque and the Bazaar, a nice restaurant or two, and get a guide. Thanks , Ben for reminding us that these people, our brothers, all want to be nice, in all the heat and fish and stench and noise. Job well done, Mate!

Awesome adventures, really necessary to experience a true flavour of the Bangla culture and life. Bald on top the train is classic, and one of few ultra immersive forays I have not tried. Everything you did was awesome, except I would not take an inside berth on the ferry; getting down that corridor in an emergency might be impossible, much prefer Mr Bald's less salubrious accommodations on the railing :) 3 days does seem a bit short to acclimatise, but hope you enjoyed yourself Ben, and thanks for taking us along.

I was thinking the exact same. He should be fist pumping 🤛🏼 instead, especially in places where locals are dirt poor, and water isn’t that readily available in those particular parts. If the locals can’t be bothered to keep their environment and doorstep clean, I doubt they regularly wash their hands. Yes, they may identify as Muslim, but they need educating on how important cleanliness is, in Islam. It’s half our deen. Bangladesh need to leave the Hindu dirty culture and adopt a more Islamic one. The men should be more modestly dressed, even if it is hot. The Middle East is hot, but you don’t see the men walking around in vests and longi. Even the Pakistani and Afghanistani look more presentable and hygienic. Bangladesh is still a little far behind and still adopts some of the old Hindu habits. Please keep the country and wildlife clean. The corrupt government needs to do more, instead of filling their pockets. Why are the Bangladeshi people not voting out those two greedy witches.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, together again. Cool beans. ...what I'm wondering Ben, is why someone put a lock on the outside of the bathroom door in your cabin? I guess as long as the lock for the cabin itself is on the inside you have nothing to worry about. Might want to take all of your valuables in the bathroom every time you use it. Just as a precaution. The interesting places you two go, intrepid travelers. People in Bangladesh are short! They seem to be polite, gentle people.

You should watch Luke Damant, Harry Jaggered or Brent Timm, who had a, chaotic experience, as well as a lovely memorable experiences. However, they visited many cities and listened to the locals. What Bald and Ben have done, is intentionally chosen to visit the busiest, dirtiest parts of the busy cities and Old Dhaka, where even local people are telling them to go back to the main areas, just for their content. That’s like intentionally visiting the hoods in a rundown neighbourhood in the US or dirty council estate areas in the UK, and leading people to believe, that’s what the whole country is like. Granted, not as bad and chaotic but that doesn’t represent a whole country and it’s very disingenuous to show the really bad parts of a country with their audience and portray a country so negatively, without showing the good parts too, especially when the host nation has been welcoming towards them.
