This episode resurrected Les's career. After his divorce he went into the Celebrity Big Brother house and had a very public breakdown. The fact he can send that up here, own it and rise above it earned him a lot of credit. Fair play to him.
Les Dennis is excellent in this. He’s more a comedian than actor historically but he showed some talent in this I didn’t know he had.

i was just thinking that.
“Marinade in silence” perfect description 😂❤
Les Dennis, Keith Chegwin and Barry from Eastenders....the Holy Trinity
Him and “Barry” in extras are brilliant
Les Dennis hosted Family Fortunes here in the UK, I think the American version is called Family Feud.
Les Dennis' Graham Norton impression always kills me 😂
Bunny is an all time favourite, one of the best characters in Gervaises canon
Les Dennis went through a very public breakup (and breakdown) after his young, hotter wife cheated on him with another celeb making that scene in the pub and the scenes with his girl in this even funnier lol. Also, RIP, Bunny.

yah, and he was publicly shown to be extremely depressed in the papers.. just goes to show the type of man he is to take the piss out of himself like this... he definately endeared himself to a lot of people..

Definitely my favourite show of all time. When you finish the show the outtakes are incredible
By far the best episode of Extras. I "DON'T REALLY KNOWWWW" if you need to know who Les is to fully enjoy the episode, they do a good enough job in beginning of the episode of explaining who he is
I cycle through your videos these days. Your laugh keeps me laughing when everything else is going to shit. Thank you.
Les Dennis was also part of a comedy duo in the 80's too. Sadly Dustin Gee died suddenly while they were doing a Pantomime season together.
The young blondes that Les Dennis gets with is probably a reference to his relationship with Amanda Holden back in the day that went down the pan
@johnadams1147
3 жыл бұрын
You mean after she had an affair with Neil Morrisey? Holden was a gold digger with no respect for her marriage vows. That's the reference point for the blond.

If it's up there I'll give you the money myself was one of his catchphrases on family fortunes
Great videos as always Josh! Would love some more Stewart Lee - Context-free words - on Russel Howard - on Top Gear All hilarious 😄
The Daniel Radcliffe and Orlando Bloom episodes are my favourite!
Family Fortunes is the British version of Family Feuds.
I think Ricky views the whole notion of fame and celebrity with disdain and Extras is the perfect vehicle for him to express that. He expresses the same sentiment at the Golden Globes to an audience of elites that is completely unfamiliar to not so much insults but scorn and contempt.
If it’s up there I’ll give you the money myself!
Researching Les Dennis 😂 dedication.
I really want you to watch Time Trumpet. It’s 6 half hour episodes and they’re all on YT. Really funny alternate reality satire. Like when people complained BBC Weather’s new graphics made them nauseous, but instead they present them as though they were designed with real human blood
Les Dennis has been around for years he was really popular in the 80s as a comedian then he done the UK version of family fortunes, I believe its family feud in the states, he tends to fall off the radar for a while then re-emerge
Paul Kelly. He’s from up the road . Glasgow. Quite a blast from the past
Karl Pilkington is an Extra in Extras in season 2. See if you can spot him 😁
Bunny starred in one of my favourite comedies from the '80s, it was called City Lights - Maggie appears in an episode of it. It's so good.

I think of Les Dennis as a comedian. The silences help make it funnier.

The next one with Samuel L. Jackson is really good.
This made me feel sorry for Les the first time around.. Poor Les, I grew up with him, and he just became nothing after Amanda Holden.
harry hills tv burp
It’s a shame you don’t know each individual guest as they often play parodies of themselves which is extremely funny
Ricky Gervais was a brilliant writer, and was a master at writing self-deprecation in himself and others. Extra's is better if you know the Z-list celebrities in it who were massive in the 1980's. It's also better for watching the entire episode as it flows better (I know you can't broadcast the entire episode due top copyright). Gervais is very self-aware and can be very poignant in his writing. There are some superb episodes, which included Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan.
Get back to Fawlty Towers !
Ian McKellen best episode

I guess a few of the jokes went over your head with Les Dennis. He was playing off an affair his ex wife had (who’s made a career off of his back and is a Britain’s Got Talent Judge ironically). Think he played it well in this. Probably the most disliked woman in Britain ever. Well, either her or Myra Hindley. It’s a close one
