Extrapolations - Official Trailer | Apple TV+

Ойын-сауық

Watch your future unfold. From the writer of Contagion comes Extrapolations, now streaming on Apple TV+ apple.co/_Extrapolations
Extrapolations is a bracing drama from writer, director and executive producer Scott Z. Burns that introduces a near future where the chaotic effects of climate change have become embedded into our everyday lives. Eight interwoven stories about love, work, faith and family from across the globe will explore the intimate, life-altering choices that must be made when the planet is changing faster than the population. Every story is different, but the fight for our future is universal. And when the fate of humanity is up against a ticking clock, the battle between courage and complacency has never been more urgent. Are we brave enough to become the solution to our own undoing before it’s too late?
The series stars Meryl Streep, Sienna Miller, Kit Harington, Daveed Diggs, Edward Norton, Diane Lane, Tahar Rahim, Yara Shahidi, Matthew Rhys, Gemma Chan, David Schwimmer, Adarsh Gourav, Keri Russell, Marion Cotillard, Forest Whitaker, Eiza González, Murray Bartlett, Indira Varma, Tobey Maguire, MaameYaa Boafo, Hari Nef, Heather Graham, Michael Gandolfini, Cherry Jones, Gaz Choudhry, Ben Harper, Judd Hirsch and Neska Rose.
Extrapolations is executive produced by Burns, Gregory Jacobs, Dorothy Fortenberry and Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer. The series marks another partnership for Apple TV+ and Media Res, joining Emmy, SAG and Critics Choice Award winner “The Morning Show,” and AFI Award-winning series “Pachinko.”

    Ok I may have just come here cause Kit looks sexy as hell in the thumbnail for this, but I acc finished the show in like a day. Very very good. One of the most realistic depictions of the negative effects of climate change. It’s almost kind of a thriller cause you realize how all the things being portrayed could absolutely 100% happen and it is scarrryyyyy!!

    @@27qwljrob2 That will only happen to Northern Europe. The AMOC is what keeps the climate stable there, and it has no impact on the warming trajectory of the planet as a while. The AMOC may collapse because Greenland is melting, and the freshwater melt is disrupting the AMOC moving warmer subtropical water north to the coast of Northern Europe.

    Films and shows work on the basis of emotion and empathy, not pandering and teaching. First impression is obviously a show that wants to persuade you to believe what it sees as unquestionable fact, and dress it up with drama and futuristic set design like we’re all fools. You like it if you already agree with its premise. You’re more critical of how actually good it is as a story if you come at it after first removing the educational lesson as part of your basis of judgment, from what’s otherwise supposed to be a moving & emotional ride. Instead, just make a documentary.

    Wasn't it back in the 70s scientists were telling people the planet was too cold and the ice age was coming, so people had to drive more. Which is it, hot or cold?

  • @JackRowsey

    @JackRowsey

    No not scientists, plural. Just 1 or 2. It was only in the news for a few weeks in the 1970s. It was based on the fact there was so much soot in the atmosphere it was dimming the sun. This went on from the 40s…. World War 2, all the bombings, incendiary fires of whole cities, and War Machine factories in high gear, then finally the baby boomer generation where people were buying houses, having families and using and buying lots of products made in factories which were badly polluting the air. This all caused the temperatures to go down. However, once it was so unhealthy to breathe outdoors that asthmatics, lung cancer and emphysema patients were dropping dead, the Clean Air Act was passed by the US then other countries followed. The air cleared up from the fine soot particles in the air in the 1980s. Finally, starting in the 1990s, we had much cleaner air but because the CO2 level continued rising, throughout the 20th Century. The 90s decade saw the largest increase of Global temperatures in human history. Temperatures rose much slower in the 2000s but in the 20 teens in began to rise quickly again. The 2020s are seeing the largest jump in temperatures and ocean heat well above the temperatures of the 90s and accelerating faster than ever. The 2023 Global Average temperatures are rapidly accelerating even with a diminishing El Niño. We think as we go into the La Niña period for a year or two by 2025, the temperatures will remain steady or dip slightly before the next El Niño in the last half of the 2020s. At that point temperatures will take back off again by another wide margin. At that point we’ll be well past the prediction of 1.5 degree C above the 20th Century. It was forecasted to hit 1.5 deg C by 2035 but it looks like we’re a decade early. So we’ll most likely be at 2.0 deg C above the 20th Century Average by 2030 which in this program wasn’t supposed to happen until the 2040s. They made this film before the rapid temperature rise of 2023, obviously. I’m an Atmospheric Physicist retired from NOAA National Weather Service. I’ve been studying global warming, on my own time, since the mid 1990s when I was skeptical. I remained skeptical until the 2010s. Now it should be obvious to everyone. But there are still deniers and these are scientists who are not qualified to make statements on Atmospheric Physics, climate or meteorology. The scientists picked to be the other side skeptical ones are usually Geologists. Geologists do not know how the weather and climate work. Most geologists actually work for oil companies. I don’t know what we can do, now. We’ve hit that tipping point over the last 2 years. I still, really don’t think anything will be done for a decade or 2 and it will be way too late. Im hoping for Nuclear Fusion Reactors to be built while the coal and natural gas electric plants go off line. The earth went into the last ice age, once the temperature dropped 2 degrees C in several hundred years in reference to the 20th century average. But going the opposite way, to 2 degrees C warmer. I can’t imagine what all could happen.

    I don’t think it’s going to take that long for some of these scenarios to become realities. My own area is going to wind up largely underwater. Most of the metropolitan areas are built on landfill reclaimed from the ocean. I really thought that I would be dead by the time these things started happening.
