Okay lemme break it to you guys I'm a metallurgist (metal specialist) in the department of forensic science and the red thing you see coming off that rug is definitely not rust, rugs don't catch rust easily unless it's been in contact with a metallic element for a very long time and you would've seen pieces of metal being washed out during the cleaning process if the rug really had any contact with a metal before. It's definitely blood!

This might be a dumb question but one thing I've always been curious about is why lay the rug on the floor when you can hang it up against a wall? I know it's easier to just lay it down and scrub but the constant cleaning of the work area must be tedious. If I were to suspend the rug on a wall over a drain, cleaning would be easier and faster, not to mention the added effect of gravity pulling all the dirt and grime down, off the rug. You wouldn't be able to use the big scrubbing machine but this video showed it being used only a couple of times. Is the benefit of using the machine more than the constant cleanup?

You should try mixing the dirt with hydrogen peroxide and see if a chemical reaction occurs... That's how you can tell if it's blood or not

It’s not , it’s a rug. A prayer mat is a lot smaller and thinner Edit : you might be right it’s just very big

Love how the rug turned out. (And the whole bleeding effect 😊)

I am no expert, but it seems to me that the process can be expedited if the rug is cleaned over a fine mesh grate, allowing the water and dirt to be pushed through the rug and carried away, rather than being trapped under the rug during cleaning. Maybe the grate does not offer enough support during the power brushing. Just a thought.

What upsets me is they never clean the dirt off the back of the carpet first, that's where the bulk of it is. They just keep agitating the stuff under it making it look like it's extra dirty and they do 4x the amount of work they don't need to. It should be on a rack and sprayed down both sides first to get the bulk of it off, then in for the deep clean...

I agree. My first inclination if I were taking this on as a project would be to hang it, then power wash it.

washing it from the back or hanging it could damage the rug, plus it makes it harder to get the blood out lol

Collectors will buy old Persian rugs from Iran and won’t ask questions they are worth a lot and worth having them cleaned they are made of wool and are already 100s of years old and last forever !
