There is only one extant species of dugong and there are no recognized subspecies. So technically dugongs are just extirpated from China. So nothing has gone extinct, just dugongs being extirpated from Chinese waters

None of these animals in Japan is still alive. There's very little open space left, the country is among the most urbanized in the world.

I'm pretty sure they'll find at least a few, formerly assumed extinct species, in Forrest's beard trimmings when he finally shaves that badboy.

Honestly, not sure why extinct or alive didn’t get big time. It was possibly the greatest show I have watched! Having the opportunity to see animals close to extinction is breathtaking. It’s a shame

Idk I found it very interesting and I love forest but my brother watched it and didn’t like Forrest as a host. It sucks cause the concept is great. I hope someone makes that show or a similar one again.

@carcharodon971 more likely, most people probably haven't heard of it. I know i didn't until recently. As more people move away from broadcast tv it's gonna get harder for these shows to reach an audience.

Hey an Electrical Engineer here. Making a device pick up frequencies of sound isn't hard in normal circumstances, but making the device moisture resistant and keeping that is difficult. Love the channel. If I hadn't went to school for money I would have pursued your path with maybe horrible results, but I appreciate your content.

Extinct or Alive is the best show! You actually found things as opposed to other shows. I'm glad I found these videos and podcasts. Forrest is very good at breaking everything down and informing people on the subjects.

We are lucky to have an otter the lives in the river that feeds our bay here in central Ontario, and I can confirm he is the cutest thing I've ever seen. Love that I get to spot him a few times a year. A VERY BUSY bever lives in that same river; we see him swimming out into the lake every night lol!

Manatees and dugongs are both members of the order Sirenia. Dugongs (dugong spp.) belong to the family dugongidae and manatees (trichechus spp.) belong to family trichechidae Dugong dugon is the only extant species of dugong and there are no recognized subspecies. Thus the Chinese dugong is only a (functionally) extirpated population of dugong dugon.

Anymore documentaries coming up for Forrest? Love his documentaries. So passionate about what he does and I would love to see more stuff from him. I've watched them all and definitely need to see him search for more animals thought to be extinct and see if he can find them, even when he doesn't find them the documentaries are always interesting and informative, just love his story, where he came from and what he continues to do, everything he does is so interesting. Give this man another series. Netflix contact him or any channel that can give this man a series.

One of my pond customers called me after watching an otter climb out of a river, dive into his pond and come up with one of his koi. When he asked what to do about it, I told him to put a fence around the pond and then close the gate when the otter came back, and then add fish as needed.

We need this show again. It needs a reboot

The species I wish were still holding on are the Carolina conure (parakeet), the passenger pigeon and baiji (Yangtze river dolphin)

I'm pretty sure the acoustic game cams you are talking about was developed for anti poaching. They have old recycled phones attached to them. With a network of them they can triangulate the location of a sound. Don't remember where I saw this.

I literally just evolved my shiny seel into a dewgong in Pokémon go so it’s definitely not extinct.

I think I saw on of those posion dart frogs when I was in Panama for a trip from July 7th to the 15th we where at the lost waterfalls we also saw the black bird thing that had a baby behind it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if recent Japanese river otters were just releases or escaped Asian small clawed otters. Considering Asian small clawed otters are kept as pets and are in cafes all over Japan. (And make terrible pets for the average joe)

The problem is that people don't care in mass like they did when conservation efforts where led by Steve Irwin as the Crocodile Hunter. Forest Galante is a near perfect next gen Steve Irwin but kids don't watch stuff like that anymore. His whole audience is people that grew up watching Irwin and maybe even Corwin and Hannah. Can anyone here tell me what the Mutual of Omaha was?? The youth plays Fortnite. Let alone go to the park for 4 or 5 hours during a Summer day or learn to fish. By far let alone learning to hunt. And that is just in regards to the west.

Would be amazing to see extinct or alive to come back, although I’m not sure the kinda budget needed for one of Forrest’s trips the sidemen show had some pretty amazing production quality and I imagine it would allow Forrest to have more freedom to choose what species he goes after next
