Floridian here. Thanks for posting. It seems like you are the only storm chaser who covered the damage in Tallahassee. 🙏🏾 😔
Hey SCV, thank you for posting this, I'm a disabled, stuck at home Floridian so I wasn't able to get up and about to see the damages, it's heart wrenching. And thordadrocks, thank you for helping people out around here, I know some folk don't have even a basic tool set, let alone a chainsaw. Thankfully I DO have a mini-chainsaw, so I was able to get out that Friday morning and clear off the road in front of my house.
I lived just west of the baseball stadium when I attended FSU in the late 1980s. These are sad images to see. My heart goes out to all affected both here in Tally and also throughout the U.S. in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. What a spring of storms.
Tallahassee native here and since I moved here in 1995, this is worse than any hurricane 🌀 or tropical storm than I’ve ever witnessed .. it’s heartbreaking to see my beautiful hometown so ripped apart and just in a total state of chaos.. please pray for the capital city of Florida.. I’ve been working all week but I’ve got to go help people with a chainsaw today .. some can’t even leave their driveway

Your comment puts it into perspective for storms that have hit Tallahassee. I was thinking with all of the canopies that heavy storms don't hit here, but I guess it's just very rare now.
I was down at Railroad Square from about 1130am today helping a friend salvage what she could from Able Artists Gallery where she works. The gallery is destroyed. Several buildings heavy damage. Talked to one of TPD officers. She said she thought this was worse than Hurricane Michael when it hit Tally

How do you show the damage to Railroad Square and FSU yet completely skip over the damage just across the railroad tracks at FAMU's campus?

Not a strong tornado, but definitely very damaging. The amount of downed trees is going to be one hell of a clean-up.
As someone that has been around the circus industry for over 40 years this is hard to see. FSU has embraced Floridas Circus History and arts and I really hope they rebuild this. 🙏🏻 ing For all effected by the continuous vicious storms across the USA.

Tornadeo or blight looks real close imho
This looks like damage from straight line wind.
@khartman2005
Ай бұрын
No it does not. We had a straight line wind event here in Indiana about 10 years ago and everything was laid flat all going in the same direction. You can see the debris in this video is thrown in all directions indicating rotation. It was definitely a tornado
This does not appear to be a tornado, but more straight line wind damage. IF it is a tornado it would be very weak. F0-F1. Of course, this in no way diminishes what everyone went through while experiencing it. Been through 5 tornadoes in 4 states in the mid-west myself. I do not understand those that want to.
@alexanderweinrich7418

The reason I stated this being straight line is based on similar experience where I live. Nws team came through our area with a similar damage and stated straight line wind damage when we all definitely felt it was a tornado. Peeled back siding on homes, broke trees at their base, splattered mud on windows of houses from unknown location. Neighbors stated it was lifting off ground in our area. As it skipped over our house it sheared off the tops of trees in neighbors yard. Straight line winds can do very similar damage. In the Midwest we have had storms racing across our state as high as 90mph with higher winds. I too saw the reports in Florida though and have to concur with what nws said.

And in the Guardian yesterday it was reported that the rate of CO2 concentration has increased. Two days ago the Guardian reported a poll of climate scientists: over half expect global warming to top 2.5 degrees in coming decades. This week’s storms are occurring at 1.5 degrees warming. They are NOT outliers, they are part of an extreme weather trend that is going up. These houses need to be built back with future storms in mind. More expensive - yes. But not as expensive as rebuilding after every storm. FEMA recovery funds need to incentivize this.
