Exposing a Podcast Scam

Ойын-сауық

Theo Von, Brendan Schaub, Whitney Cummings, Jim Cornette, were all allegedly defrauded by Kast Media and Colin Thomson. How did this happen and how can we prevent it in the future? Here's my investigation.

This video is an opinion and in no way should be construed as statements of fact. Scams, bad business opportunities, and fake gurus are subjective terms that mean different things to different people. I think someone who promises $100K/month for an upfront fee of $2K is a scam. Others would call it the "opportunity of a lifetime."

🚨I’ve seen people concerned for me over the “I make 4 figures in the $10,000,000 studio” comment and to be CLEAR that was a joke! I was just surprised by how much podcasts make and wrote that in as a throwaway line. I think most ppl know how absurd the idea is that I could have 2 employees, and a $10,000,000 studio if the channel actually made a few thousand bucks a year, however I wanted to clarify so no one worries about me.🥺 If I ever need money I’ll just sell the flying lambo. We’re good. 🫡

It’s a manipulation tactic that has probably worked really well in dealing with podcasters and celebs. It’s just simple flattery. “Once he likes me he will be willing to do business” But CoffeeZilla isn’t trying to sell something, or get an ego stroke, so the same manipulation tactics are definitely not going to work.

Damn that dude is scary, because he was able to come off so genuine. He was very good at mimicking the presentation of someone with good intentions, that just got in over their head You can tell he isnt actually this person however. Because A) his priority in explaining what went wrong is to first establish his innocence. Its like when someone calls 911 and their first priority isnt saving the person injured, but rather establishing they had nothing to do with it. B) he has no patience. After being pressed about just explaining where the money went rather then giving an alibi, he gets upset. A genuine person who made a huge mistake still understands and recognizes the harm their actions caused. You dont get offended by it. Started out going "man maybe theo was wrong about who this guy actually is" but very quickly changed, "oh there he is. Theres the bad guy. He was just hiding in there. Got it".

I used to work with a boss who had that personality. He would say what ever he thought the person in front of them wanted to hear if he was trying to sell them something. And he would do the same exact thing if he was trying to cover up a lie. A truly toxic boss, scammers operate the same way. Empty promises and selfish action.

ANYBODY looking at this kind of a deal needs to have an attorney that specializes in Intellectual Property, and contract law. If they don't, they're an idiot. You can ALWAYS have your attorney look over a contract. If the person offering the contact says things like "It's just the standard contract" or "It's just boilerplate" that's a serious red flag. ALL IP contracts should be looked over by an attorney the talent hires before signing. If the media company is unhappy about that, it's likely time to walk away.

Listen to that guy who didn't get upset till the payments were six months late. Who in their right mind would wait that long, unless they didn't rely on that money to survive.
