Ya, we got out and did a bit of hiking, maybe 30 minutes. But it was dense and nothing special, so now\t much video of the hiking. Thanks for the comment !

That's a pretty area. Driving about or hiking, you can't lose. Great little run with the waterfalls. I can definitely see why Akela would like playing there. 😊👍

Oh we have to get out and hike. He doesn't mind riding to get someplace, but once he knows we are there, he's ready to climb over the seats and take control !! LOL

Another great video. You have to check out Curtis Creek campground. Lots of areas for your pup to play in the water and it's always cool up there. The road off of Rt. 70 will take you up to the parkway. It's worth the trip. Have fun and be safe.

Finally made it to NC myself. Boone. Banner Elk, Grandfather Mountain area. Torrential rains, flash flood alerts. Nice area though. Expect to hike even in the rains.....visited South Mountains last week. Ran up to Shoal Waterfalls. Legs were extremely sore.

LOL...Good for you. A little excertion will never hurt you, if it doesn't kill you first ! Boone is where I first met the mountains in the 70's. Pretty crowded around there now. The rain doesn't last.. Wait an hour, it will stop for a few hours, thenmight start back up.... They don't know how to rain down here !

Was out there today. Road has seen quite a bit of damage. There was a honda accord at the top. The place where the rocks are has been totally trashed. TV's, trash, couch, someone living in a Buick, etc.

Ya, it gets hit pretty hard by the locals I imagine. Especially with no other place to go and socially drink these days! Sad !! Thanks for the update!

Would you say the Rockwood aframe campers are good, or is the Aliner the only way to go, even with the higher cost?

  • @GoingNoWhereFast

They are all about the same. The Rockwood come with the cool cat A/C heat pump. It really doesn't work. The Aliners have it as an option, but its not recommended. Aliners are a bit lighter, Rockwood has a larger dealer base if you don't think you would ever work on it. Aliners are mostly known for what people do to them to make them different !! LOL

I like that area for hunting and camping, but be aware of your surroundings.....there's lots of copper heads and timber rattlers up there!

Yes there are. But we are too big for them to eat and we don't bother them, so we see them and wave as we pass by. Even Akela just say Hi!

When it comes to poisonous snakes I have been bit once on south mountain game lands , and will tell you it is not a pleasant experience, but here are some tips from a guy who has checked in more deer in his life probably more than any living man in this state , but I’m not bragging because I’ve actually hunted them fifty years so I had a good head start on the younger guys , but at sunset and just before and then sunrise and a little after is when I’ve encountered the most bad snakes so dodge those hours and you should be ahead of the game of not getting snake bit ,, I would encourage you to carry on your person the medicine that it would take to treat your dog for snake bites if you are going to keep on visiting these remote ares , especially the south mountains, the elevation there is perfect for all species.

I'm so sorry, I know what its like to lose your friend. Ticks especially are so disease ridden, I'm not sure which is worse risk.
