Exploring the Macallum Neighbourhood of George Town

Macallum is a working-class neighbourhood of George Town, Penang. A large portion of the land here is reclaimed from the sea in the mid 1970s for the construction of low-cost flats to house the working class of George Town. The area derives its name from Macallum Street Ghaut, the road that extends in to sea. The whole area of sea was reclaimed and a neighbourhood was created out of it.
On this walk, which I did in the heat of the afternoon, I want to show you how the area is like. It is certainly not a touristic part of George Town, and not a place that many visitors would go to. But it gives you a glimpse of the daily lives of the locals.

Very interesting video! I cannot imagine tourists coming here, but there's potential for Malaysian hipsters coming for IG photos of urban sprawl like they do in Hong Kong public housing estates. I think you've got something going here!

Thank you for premiering this area that many youngsters don’t venture nowadays!! Yes those flats were considered as tall in those days!! Not to be disrespectful , but I remembered that it had been a few high rise suicides !! Bless their souls!! Hope it is all different now!! Sorry not intended to offend!!!

Thanks Eddie. Oh, I didn't know that it has suicides! No choice, if I did know, I might have mentioned. It's not intending to offend but to be factual, but then again, I might just leave out such details.
