This video contains:
👉🏻 Sunlit Perspective Lamp: when lit from behind this flat ink line-drawing jumps into 3D via perspective shading of sunlight and some color lithophane type images placed behind the sketched windows. A fun take on the power of geometric perspective to suggest three dimensions from two.
👉🏻 Squaring Circles: from one particular point of view these wireframe sculptures looks like a circles/squares, from another it’s a square/circle!
👉🏻 Dot Animation Card: a unique version of barrier-grid (kinegram) animation where a matrix of holes allows only some of the dots on the covered card to show in succession producing the appearance of motion. In this clever design rotating the card with dots by 180 degrees reveals a second animation. Affordable kinetic art by Shigeki Naito that plays on the psychophysics of vision.
👉🏻 Pegasus Automaton: Turn a crank and this metal pterippus takes flight using simple mechanisms in what mechanical engineers call a closed kinematic chain.
👉🏻 MaBoRun Mini: rolling marbles doing tricks as potential energy of gravity is converted to kinetic energy. In this mini-marble run a battery powered auger conveyor (Archimedes' Screw) brings the marbles back to the top.
👉🏻 Non-Circular Gear Train
👉🏻 RGB Additive Color Mixing Demo: three LEDs projected onto a translucent screen demonstrate the additive nature of our perception of colored light. Three potentiometers allows the user to adjust the intensity of each color. Mixing Red, Green, and Blue to create Yellow, Magenta, and Cyan with the following mixings: R+G=Y, G+B=C, and R+B=M. Adding all three R+G+B produces White. RGB color addition is the basis for all computer and TV displays- all the colors you are looking at right now on your screen are made from adding pixels of R G and B in different proportions and intensities!
👉🏻 Dresden Glass Bead Star: concentric designs of spherical glass beads produce geometric symmetries of shadow and refracted light from a tea light candle which serves as a point source of illumination. This “Glasperlen Stern” candle holder is one of many configurations offered from Dresden artist Andreas Schildhauer, each with glass set into porcelain from Freiberg.
👉🏻 Moon Globe with Relief: Explore our Moon in your own hands with this incredibly detailed lunar globe where all surface features have been rendered in 3D topographic relief- where the mountains and craters actually cast shadows. Moon’s latest most accurate full map was completed via NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter in 2010- the data upon which this globe was made. Shown also are the six Apollo landing sites where humans have left footprints in the lunar regolith. This globe is made by Jeff Hobbs of Terrainian Space Globes by a process of precision CNC machining and cold casting techniques, complete with space-age look base stand. The most amazing globe in my collection.
