Exploring Pennypack Park - Ed Kelly Amphitheater

Ойын-сауық

For a period of time, the Ed Kelly Amphitheater was the place to be during the warmer weather. People would go there in huge crowds to see all the local bands and relax in this beautiful area of Pennypack Park in Northeast Philadelphia.
Since the closing of the regular music festivities at the park, they have moved the concerts to Cannstatter's, but this place is still amazing and beautiful!

I'll never forget my mothers scream when she was dipping her toes in the water and a crayfish walked over them.

Where the fireplace was, it was a picnic Pavillion at one time. We would hang out there as teenagers in late 70's, early 80's. There also was a restroom building behind the Pavillion up near the hill. Brought back many memories seeing your video. Thanks for sharing.

There were Park Rangers and the Philadelphia Police Explorers present the nights the concerts were in the park. That fireplace was a hangout at night for me and my friends back in the 1990s. We had a lot of fires in that fireplace during the spring and summer nights back then. We gathered up fallen tree branches for firewood before sunset and would hang out there with a fire burning until 10 or 11PM. I did a lot of hanging out with friends in that area of the park back then in the 1990s.

Awwww a possum!! I’ve never seen one in person. I’d totally freak out if that came out the bushes unexpectedly 😂 Awesome video as always Tom! Love seeing these places and all the history. Beautiful park. Absolutely hate litter - I wish people would be more considerate

“Back in the 60s, on the other side of the creek there was an open area for picnics, with several barbecue pits and a large open-sided shelter with a huge stone fireplace for gatherings….. The shelter is no longer there, it's wooden beams removed, but the huge fireplace still remains It stands like a castle ruin or a tombstone of times past”… Janet M.Gibson (her diary - website)

Around 4:00 - it was not a bench, its was a spring. People drank that water up until the late 80s then it dried up

This part of the creek is relatively close to my house and the clientele that swim and trash the park is disturbing, animals.
