Exploring Montreal's Abandoned Wellington Tunnel

Wellington Tunnel was built under Montreal's Lachine Canal from 1931-32. It provided access for vehicles, trams, and pedestrians. Its four passageways were open until 1995 when they were replaced by the Wellington Bridge. The tunnel has since become a semi-forgotten reminder of the city's past and a space for graffiti artists and the homeless.

Used this tunnel regularly until I left Montreal in 1979. There are more tunnels in Pointe St Charles, and forgotten Streets like Police St.
Interesting video. I remember driving through that tunnel as a kid in the 1980's in my fathers car.
awesome vid ! great thanks for posting !
There's a second tunnel parallel to this one with a sidewalk. I remember walking through during a trafic jam... i got pretty high from the fumes 😆 Some scenes from the series Being human were film around the tunnel...

There’s a lot going on inside there considering it should be just an empty concrete shell!

I wouldn’t recommend it as a good place to go for a recent cancer survivor.

Equally illegal: driving 81kph in an 80kph zone or parking at an expired parking meter. A little harmless trespassing is an insignificant issue for a cancer survivor.

@Kiddd Rosilio Thanks for watching to the end haha. I tried to get into the silo in 2008 but it was sealed. Tried again last year and couldn’t fit into the opening lol. Maybe next time…

This tunnel is maybe the most touristy urban exploration location in the city. You might want to hold off calling yourself an urban explorer if you can't find it, sorry. 😅
The tunel is closed now sadly...

It’s been closed before…
mmm...What are the smells you smelt in that tunnel?
@chrisluckhardt

I don’t recall it smelling like much of anything other than wet or dry concrete. I suppose it was cold enough to mute anything putrid.
