Between Aintree and Ainsdale, we've got 7 miles of country side. Have you not been to sefton meadows, That's where the viking settlements used to be.

I used to go with my friend in the car to watch the plane's take off . We'd take a picnic, she used to park in this little lane , and they'd fly over our head's. My daughter thought we were a bit mad , but it was a good day out .

Dungeon Lane was a good spotting location at the time, until the runway was extended. I also used to go there, standing on a hill where the lights are (sometimes sitting on the car roof) There were the level crossing styled lights as well, when planes were landing. Miss them times.

Great vid, well done! 😉 As kids in Speke (late 1960's), we'd venture off down past the Dove & Olive to Dungeon Lane. There was a set of traffic lights that went red when a plane was coming in on the "new runway', and a sign saying "Danger, low flying aircraft, no waiting", yeah right, we just stood right under the landing plane. Was great when a giant RAF Short Belfast was doing ILS landings, touch the runway, take off and go round again. Dungeon Lane led onto Oglet Lane and down past the little tiny cottages on the left to Oggy shore. There were loads of old, big, concrete pyramid shaped tank traps near the waters edge, never did find out why they where there? On the top of the cliff there was a giant tree with a rope tied to it. Scary swinging out over the cliff, but when you're kids, nothing fazes you does it, lol. On the right was a steep hill, for some reason it was called the Jack & Jill hill. Now that was fright ride down on your bike, seemed like you were going 100mph! You had to do a sharp left turn towards the tank traps or you'd end up in the Mersey. I remember we actually took our shoes and socks off one day and waded out into the smelly mud. I cut my foot on a sunken broken bottle, what the hell were we thinking! One nice sunny day in the school hols, we did your walk towards Garston, along the shore though, so didn't see the farmhouse and the control tower wasn't there then, the 'new' runway was still connected to the old airport in them days. We got stuck in the same place as you by the landing lights gantry, so headed up the bank towards the runway. Don't remember that little path at the top, and I think it was all fenced off there so couldn't go any further. Only one thing for it............over the high fence and walk across the runway. Half way across a Cambrian Viscount came lumbering around the corner. It looked like a giant monster with four screaming prop engines. Time to run like the wind towards Speke Hall. The Viscount passed as we were clambering over the fence to safety, just as a yellow security Landrover, complete with flashing light on top, came careering around the same taxiway to exactly where we were, the Cambrian pilot must have snitched on us to the old control tower 😄 (think it's a hotel now?). Anyway, too late 🤪 as we scarpered into Speke Hall for another little adventure before teatime. Then there was the time round the back of Dunlops, across the farmers field and over a little fence into the old airport. Did we get caught playing on/in the Douglas DC4 (I think), and old RAF Hawker Hunter, which the airport fire & rescue regularly set on fire? ............ but that's another story!

All this was my playground when I was a kid before the airport was there, I also worked on the nursery in dungeon lane before the landing lights were installed in the late sixties, Oglet shore was a favourite place on a Sunday in the summer and it was sandy, we would walk along the waters edge towards dungeon lane and we would find bullets from the war sticking out of the sand. Those were the days, thanks for reminding me.

We LIVED IN Catford Green in Speke and ussd to go to Oglet offen. In the fifties we walked through Halewood down Dungeon Lane which had beautiful old cottages on the left and the cliff tops on the right where we climbed as kids. The sand then still had the big concrete deterrents left from the war. It was terrible when they demolished such a picturesque place for the airport. We still have photographs from that time. It was the same with the bluebell woods which went when the Ford factory was built. 😮

That's a proper mission this time of year. Got to be 2-3miles in soft boggy ground. I never knew what that lighting gantry was. I've seen it and assumed it was for ships delivering fuel into the airport lol. Obviously not 😂. You can see it from the Speak Hall side too and there is an old road just outside Speake Hall boundary. You might be able to get to it from that side. I remember riding around there on my mountain bike as a kid. I went right upto that tower when it was being made. I rode right into a load of wet concrete near the gate 🤣 I was covered in it! Hale lighthouse and the village could make a good video. Loads of history there and interesting buildings. The giant and his house and the lighthouse and the Cannon in the village 👍
