Exploring Germany with a Local! | German Farmer's Markets, Food Tour + Amazing Sites! 🇩🇪

We met up with one of our followers to explore more German towns around us! We visited two farmers markets & got a tour around Amberg, Germany. We filled our bellies, had a lot of laughs, made a new friend and left with a better understanding about our local area! :) BIG THANK YOU to Kati for showing us around!

Willa is sooooo cute. I've rarely if ever seen a kid with such an infectious smile and happy demeanor. Help in pronunciation of the Umlaut ö. Try the English word 'heard' (to hear, past tense). Drop the h-, and the -rd. Extend the vowel sounds, keep them coming. Feel them in the back of your upper throat and mouth. Now try to move that sound from your glottal, upper throat area to the front of your mouth, and then finally to very puckered lips. Similar to an exaggerated kiss mouth, but very slightly opened. Try practicing with really really exaggerated mouth positions. Once you got the sound right, you can relax your mouth a bit. Icecream in Germany is basically Italian gelato, firmly in the hands of (ex-)immigrants who have now become firmly integrated. And we Germans definitely LOVE and appreciate it! These gelateria are everywhere in Germany. So, sooo good.

So going into the water with bare feet is also called doing a Kneipp cure. Sebastian Anton Kneipp was a Bavarian Roman Catholic priest who became known as a hydrotherapist and naturopath who practiced cold water therapy. He is the namesake of the Kneipp medicine and the water cure with treading water, etc., which were used earlier but only became popular through him. Kneipp's teaching has been applied almost everywhere in Germany for almost 200 years.

...and you'll find in drugstores like Rossmann or dm bath additives and body lotions under the brand "Kneipp". ;-) The shown "device" is for a treatment called in german "Wassertreten" (to tread water). Close to these kind of water basins you'll find a device to put your underarms in cold water. Other treatments based on Kneipp's theories are practised in Spas and is a kind of (cold) water douche with a hose that reminds of movies with "torture" scenes in prisons... ;-))

Germany always looks so green with nature, especially in the spring. And there are always these little pathways away from the traffic where you can walk. Ideal if you have children. I haven't been back since December 2019 because of the pandemic. I'm not sure whether it's going to be possible even in 2021. Such a shame, because where my relatives live on the outskirts of Hamburg it's a small village, quiet, and beautiful at this time of the year.

I loved how excited Willa got just playing with a bottle of water in the beginning. The water feature to cool down seems to be regional, never heard of it. I prefer my Döner the traditional style, without all the extra vegetables that i have never seen in a Döner (for example bell pepper, potato, etc.).

That water feature is for therapeutical purposes. Alas you don't need a prescription for it. The idea, as described earlier in another comment, is to introduce cold water to a body part. So the circulation is stimulated and health improved. Under therapeutic regimen one would immerse an arm or leg at a time into cold water. Or get hosed down by a soft cold water jet. It is related to kinesio tape en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elastic_therapeutic_tape which stimulates circulation in a tinier area.

And this was Sebasian Kneipp: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_Kneipp You’ll see pools like these pretty commonly throughout Germany... though a lot of them will be natural wading sites that lead through streams.

If the Rotbäckchen is too strong or too sweet for you, you can do what Germans love to do with their drinks and dilute it with cold sparkling water.

If You have Problems with the German Umlaute try this: say worest or earned and u already say a "Ö" / say Burger or surf u say a "Ü" /say way, stay bread or sad u say a "ä"

Reminds me of the way I used to explain foreigners how to say my name . Say Sue, say Ann, repeat, repeat. Repeat faster. Problem is: you'll likely get stuck with the english/american accent. It will always sound a little bit off. And to get rid of it, is harder than learning it the "correct" way in the first place. I'm sure burger or surf sounds like an Ö. Börger=burger, Sörf=surf. I think there is no english word, that gets you close to an Ü. To learn it without an accent, try this: Ü is when your tounge says (german) "i", but your lips say "u" Say "i" and while doing so, start to shape your lips the way you would to say "u". The sound will transform to a perfect Ü. Same should work with "ö": tounge says "e", lips say "o"

OK if you think that then try words like thyr or wyvern for the ü

@@stevecyclemaker492 The nordic god Thyr is indeed pronounced with an Ü. But is it an english word? The y in wyvern, according to several "how to pronounce" sources from the internet, sounds like the y in cycle, and was pronounced wrong by myself till today. I used to pronounce it with a short i. Like physics :-)

Pronunciation of umlauts takes the longest for anglophones to learn. You actually need to teach your brain to make a distinction between the regular vowels and umlauts. You're still at the stage where your brain sorts it with the sounds you know.
