    I'm actually playing a warforged in faerun, who is the first of his race to ask important philosophical questions and is seeking a god for his recently liberated people to devote themselves to and to give them an afterlife and a moral code that goes beyond programming or rules established by the creator races. He's a Paladin

    This is great! How did the warforged get to faerun in your campaing? I ask because I've been thinking about how to play a warforged in faerun (as my group mainly plays in the forgotten realms) and the idea I had was have my PC be completely different from the lore of eberron, and instead be native to Mechanus. This way the warforged in faerun ar either sent to the material plane (like with a mission from a god whose realm is located on Mechanus, such as Helm or Gond), summoned (either accidentaly or not) or lost (just, like, fell through a portal or something). I was thinking about making a Clockwork soul sorcerer to really doble down on the idea =D

    @@braulioservodedeus they were enslaved (and possibly many of them even forged) by the Formians... this is a second campaign that follows a previous one..which altered the balance of the world... there was a massive war that was won by an alliance between the formians, the Thay nation and a few other groups. in payment for their involvement, the formians reclaimed one third of Tauril for themselves. when they moved in, they brought along their warforged. the current campaign is set 40 years later, with a lot of lore and history lost to most.. the party started out working for the formans, then stuff happened and along the way we sort of liberated the warforged from their masters' control over them. my main character evolved in a bit of a problematic relationship with the rest of the party, so I parked him and created the warforged I described. My character is actually of an older "make" than most other warforged, made by a human, and he possibly, but unknowingly, holds the secret to the origin of the species.. he's on a quest to find the right deity and to broker a deal with them... to find answers to the great questions such as the mortality (or lack thereof) of warforged.. or whether they have a soul, how they could procreate and such... His quest and the generational facts are just things I came up with for the backstory..the DM is rolling with it. Eberron did not even get a mention, in our game, lol Gond is an underappreciated god. another character I love to play is a human forge cleric of Gond.. with the clan crafter background. he's an absolute tank and a blast to play out of combat too.

    @@dehro Amazing! Thanks for the reply! Very nice history on your campaings! I completely agree on Gond being underapreciated. My first idea was to have my PC (and all the other warforged) as being created by him directly, as it fits with his creativity and ingenuity, and his realm having some sort of city of constructs.

Eberron, Dark Sun, Planescape, all make SENSE and are great opportunities for adventure of different kinds. Forgotten Realms is such a kitchen sink that nothing in that setting makes sense or has cohesion any more, and stories are kind of being told despite the setting rather than through it at this point… Note: I’m sure Ed Greenwood has a version of the Forgotten Realms that would make sense to me, but WotC sure as hell don’t… they’ve just crammed way, way too much in.

    Eberron is really interesting and I would like to read more stuff from Keith, but 30 bucks for a pdf is ludicrous. Yes I understand the reasoning, but just because Keith was basically *robbed* by Wizards of the Coast doesn't means that we should make up for it. He should have probably thought more about just giving away his propetty to them to begin with or to dedicate a year into just making them richer but if I can get basically any Pathfinder 2 PDF for 15 bucks at literally triple the page count this is just not feasible. I would love for him to work on some other new setting or stuff if he ever decides to publish independently but I can't support the outrageous to the point of being morally reprehensible cut of the profit Wizards is demanding here at 50% share: no thank you, you've got enough money from your core products.

  • @laurahirsbrunner631

    @laurahirsbrunner631

    To clarify some misconceptions, Wizards only takes 20% of each sale, which IMO is a fair royalty share for licensing their intellectual property. The other 30% goes to the platform that hosts the product, OBS, which is the same percent they charge for non-WotC-related books on DrivethruRPG.

  • @dimitriid

    @dimitriid

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@laurahirsbrunner631 20% isn't "fair" if they basically *force* people to *ONLY* use DrivethruRPGs. Sorry but if the only option is for them to push you right into another partner that demands another 30% for their own then however Wizards and DrivethruRPG decide to split their part it's still a massive, unreasonable 50% If Wizards was willing to put that at 15% and let creators distribute PDF content on places other than drivethru then you *could* have a case but as it stands, just because they technically don't take 50% themselves doesn't means they don't force content creators into a position where they need to do that regardless. If they want control of the distribution they should run their own damn digital store: it's not that difficult. It's just typical, peak laziness on their part at the literal expense of creators.
